a fine reply, thanks pigfarmer. those of us who've heated our abodes with wood and who've had the opportunity to select fell split and stack know what the expression 'heating with firewood you warm yourself thrice' means.

just a quick 'wikipedia' on 'ironwood':

'Ostrya virginiana, the American hophornbeam, is a species of Ostrya native to eastern North America, from Nova Scotia west to southern Manitoba and eastern Wyoming, southeast to northern Florida and southwest to eastern Texas. Populations from Mexico and Central America are also regarded as the same species. Other names include eastern hophornbeam, hardhack (in New England), ironwood, and leverwood. Ironwood may be slow growing but it has the densest, hardest wood of any native tree species.'

Got things mostly buttoned up for winter. Still have to service the generator and motorcycle. I drain the fuel and put in fresh, lube & oil etc.

Last winter never happened here. We've had plenty of years with with below zero weather for days and times when you run out of places to put the snow after a while. But last year, zip. Didn't even use one tank of gas for the snow thrower. Ominous, but if it happened again this year I won't complain too loudly. Hopefully it won't make up for it with Double Winter this year :)

morning. nicknamed by 'meteorologists' (used to be known simply as weathermen/persons) as the storm of the century started around dinner time last night and is going strong this morn and will continue to do so for two days. basically we'll get around a foot of snow when it's all done. followed by a day of sunshine then more snow. normal winter weather for this part of ontario methinks. heh!

sold my bikes a year before retiring pigfarmer. would do likewise servicing but did that in the spring. also would pull the batteries, my riding mower one two, and store them for the winter. learned to ride as a kid up in cottage country. there were four of us boys and one of the dads got hold of a 250 cc czechoslovakian made jawa. with a plate size headlight and the battery missing. had a kickstart to spin the engine to life but we were too light and usually got one hello of a kick back when we tried. so one sat in the saddle, ignition key on, clutch lever pulled in and the bike in first gear ready for a push. a lot of fun. a road bike whipping through forest trails. the clunking noise of the shocks bottoming out. rode with a club for years but ended leaving and riding solo. way safer.

and so. noticed the 'election 2020' thread/conversation is gone and with such an unbiased last farewell post. LOL!

No it isn't. The classical guitar on the right is a Finnish made Espana is one I did have when you came to visit. It's almost as old as I am. Acoustic guitar on left is 5 years old. That Epiphone mandolin a few months old. All my other guitars amps pedals mics have been sold or moved along. One amp this trio of instruments and a Koch chromatic harp remain. I'm learning and so playing that mandolin an hour or more daily. Normal tuning of pairs of strings are GDAE (violin tuning) but I tune the pairs of strings GD and octave higher GD. Love the sound. No pick, fingernails only. Brings out the instruments natural harmonics.
