Former advisers press Biden to change COVID-19 strategy: live with it, not shut it down

Six members of the advisory board that worked with President Biden during his transition period before taking office are now calling on him to take a different approach to the COVID-19 pandemic than the one he is currently using.

In a series of opinion articles posted by the Journal of the American Medical Association, Drs. Ezekiel Emanuel, Michael Osterholm, Celine Gounder, David Michaels, Rick Bright and Luciana Borio offered various suggestions for how to move forward.

"As the omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 demonstrates, COVID-19 is here to stay," Emanuel, Osterholm and Gounder wrote in a piece in which they say Biden's national strategy for COVID-19 response must be "updated."

"The goal for the ‘new normal’ with COVID-19 does not include eradication or elimination, eg, the ‘zero COVID’ strategy. Neither COVID-19 vaccination nor infection appear to confer lifelong immunity," they wrote. "Current vaccines do not offer sterilizing immunity against SARS-CoV-2 infection. Infectious diseases cannot be eradicated when there is limited long-term immunity following infection or vaccination or nonhuman reservoirs of infection."

The "new normal," they explained, should be "recognizing that SARS-CoV-2 is but one of several circulating respiratory viruses that include influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and more." They noted that people have been living normal lives while facing the threat of those other respiratory illnesses, and they must learn to view the threat of COVID-19 as just an additional threat alongside the others.

Moderna CEO says fourth COVID-19 shot could be necessary

The CEO of Moderna says that a fourth coronavirus vaccine shot may soon be necessary due to declining efficacy of booster shots.

"I will be surprised when we get that data in the coming weeks that it’s holding nicely over time — I would expect that it’s not gonna hold great," Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel told CNBC on Thursday regarding the strength of the booster shots. "I still believe we’re going to need boosters in the fall of ’22 and forward."

Bancel says that the United Kingdom and South Korea have already begun ordering the fourth round of shots. "We have been saying that we believe first this virus is not going away," Bancel said. "We’re gonna have to live with it."

Moderna said last month that a booster dose of its COVID-19 vaccine should offer protection against the rapidly spreading omicron variant. Moderna said lab tests showed the half-dose booster shot increased by 37 times the level of so-called neutralizing antibodies able to fight omicron.

And a full-dose booster was even stronger, triggering an 83-fold jump in antibody levels, although with an increase in the usual side effects, the company said. While half-dose shots are being used for most Moderna boosters, a full-dose third shot has been recommended for people with weakened immune systems.

My wife and I received the two Moderna shots and the booster. We bought into it these couple of times but have decided no more shots. If it is our time, so be it.

Moment science teacher with no medical qualifications injects son's friend, 17, with J&J COVID vaccine at her home without his parents' consent as school puts her on leave and cops probe where she got vial

Newly-released video footage shows New York high school biology teacher Laura Russo (pictured) jabbing a 17-year-old boy with a Covid-19 vaccine. She was charged after the teen returned home and told his mom he had been inoculated without parental consent. The married mother-of-six was charged under state education law with unauthorized practice of a profession.

Why would you be so stupid as to be photographed giving an illegal shot to a student?

I have a friend on another site. Her and her mom got vaccinated and they were put to their beds for a week. They just got boosters yesterday and they are both too sick to leave the house.

I really think that the initial first time shots or shot is all that's needed...Keeping someone from getting threatening symptoms and death is the best we can get from these shots and I think the first set of shots or shot is enough and will do that for most people...

I have to say that even though I go to the shops to get stuff 2 times a month. It's what I always did anyway. I haven't been ill since 2020 and I have been around quite a few like minded people without even wearing a mask.

The fat's in the fire now boy-o.

Without going into the details these past few days have been a real dogfight revolving around elder care. Amazing how some people literally live in quaking fear over this foolishness. Got the goddamned TV on all day amping it up. Afraid you got it? Why not just run to a place where a whole lot of other sick people who think they have it are so you can confirm that you do or don't have it and might anyway after your visit so the test was pointless..... and round and round we go. Norman, coordinate please. Meanwhile, the one friend I know of and his family - completely unvaccinated - got it and were fine in maybe two days. Like a bad cold, no real fever he said.

Meanwhile, on the 20th we get our Moderna booster. Why ? Other than needing to prove to the Gestapo that I am 'fully vaccinated and up to date' (because mincing words helps) we wouldn't bother. In fact, I object. But from a practical level, we might very well have to go to a hospital or other facility Manhattan and you ain't getting in without it. And no, while I suppose it's possible we're not worried about the stupid shots other than the immediate short term effects. They didn't faze me one bit but my wife got sick afterwards both times and probably will with the third.

Maybe they'll finally be satisfied when they have enough of us puking.

You had covid before you were vaccinated, right? Did the Mrs get covid too? I'm just wondering if natural immunity saved you from getting sick.

We both got full blown covid in February before the vaccines and we both got really sick. Like a bad flu. Only difference was the taste thing - weird. Anything I ate seemed like I was eating Scotch tape. We got the Moderna shots in late May and early June. My wife got sick each time but only for a day, maybe two and not as bad.

After where she just was and what's going on downtown I bet we have omicron now too, wouldn't surprise me. Her 92 year old mother has it and I'm not sure you can tell she's sick - not with that anyway. Her sister got the booster and took sick from it. They are drama queens with CNN blaring 24/7 and are in the Icy Grip of Fear as a result - all but one of the home health aides quit. She's doing the CDC calculus and making timelines, requiring testing, proof and all that. These woman are paid cash to tend to the old lady and simply moved on to another less difficult gig.

It’s to the point that if masks and three shots don’t cut it, why bother? You can’t tell me that additional shots aren’t lining the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies. What angers me is that you can’t get a straight, truthful answer from the government or medical officials. Small wonder no one believes the powers that be.

I agree with most everything I'm reading here. Since this virus made its first appearance neither my wife nor I have been sick or experienced anything covid related. We shop often as per our normal, visit with and have friends visit with us, will see shows at our local opera house. Yes seating is spaced and masks are required and two shots were needed to enter another province to enjoy Xmas and bring in the new year with our grands and family. So, being responsible and loving grandparents we do what's required. But I could easily be an anti mask anti vaccine type. I dislike needles and cringe at being told what to do by a myriad of supposed 'expert ' a$$holes. However, tomorrow early morn, my dear wife and I will get our booster shots. Why? Don't ask. By the way. Happy New Year eh.

Biden not planning on changing approach.
Biden says 'we can contain COVID' after former advisers call for new outlook virus

"COVID, as we’re dealing with it now, is not here to stay," Biden said. But he added, "COVID in the environment, here in the world, is probably here to stay."

The president said the world is better equipped to counter the virus than ever before due to vaccines and testing abilities.

"We have so many more tools we’re developing and continuing to develop that will contain COVID and other strains of COVID. We’re very different today than we were a year ago," he said.

New Data Out of New York Differentiates Between Patients Hospitalized as a Result of Covid-19 and Those Who Later Tested Positive | National Review

New York released data on Friday differentiating between those hospitalized with coronavirus and those hospitalized with other maladies who tested positive for it after being admitted for the first time.

While there are 11,548 New Yorkers hospitalized who have tested positive for Covid, only 6,620 were admitted as a result of Covid or complications from the disease. That means that 43 percent of those counted were admitted for reasons believed to be unrelated to the coronavirus.

In New York City, 51 percent of those considered to be hospitalized with Covid were for reasons other than the virus itself.

So ..... it's been about doubled, eh? Say it ain't so. Certainly they could minimize the numbers in regard to nursing homes.

Excuse me, I must go make sure I have a clean goddamned antiviral facerag to wear all day ........
