Map reveals where new XEC Covid variant is spreading across Europe as doctor warns it could soon be dominant strain of the virus​

A new 'stronger' Covid variant, with cases reported around the world, is now spreading 'quite rapidly' across Europe as a doctor warns it could soon become the dominant strain of the virus.

The XEC strain was first detected in Germany in June but cases have since been reported in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, the US and other countries - with 1,115 cases worldwide.

MailOnline's map highlights all of the documented cases of the new XEC strain across Europe.

It is a combination of the KS.1.1 and KP.3.3 variants and causes symptoms that are similar to those you experience with common illnesses such as flu and colds.

Most people will get better within a few weeks, but for others it could take longer to recover and some may even require hospitalisation as it is said to 'wipe you out'.

It says, "A new 'stronger' Covid variant" with "cold-like symptoms" — not mentioning that about 20% of all "cold viruses" are coronaviruses, and the only difference between COVID and a colds are the symptoms — which are basically all the same. Most patients were children in their late teens, officials said, who suffered from symptoms including a fever, headache, cough and shortness of breath.

The symptoms suggest a respiratory virus — and, already, parallels are being drawn to the early days of the Covid pandemic. Hong Kong became the first country to bring in health checks for arrivals from the DRC and Africa today, in an echo of measures taken to limit the spread of Covid.

Tests on patients are currently being carried out in the DRC, with officials saying they expect to have the results before the end of the week.

There are no direct flights between the US and Kinshasa, according to flight monitoring websites, although passengers can still arrive via connecting flights.

Mystery disease outbreak in China overwhelms hospitals in chilling echo of Covid dark days​

China is reportedly being ravaged by a mysterious viral outbreak that is overwhelming some hospitals. Videos on social media appear to show hospital units overrun with patients in face masks, and parents holding sick children in long lines in pediatric units.

There have also been unverified reports that crematoriums and funeral homes are being overwhelmed. The alarming scenes and lack of official commentary have led some to draw similarities to the early days of the Covid outbreak in China.

Local news reports have blamed a little-known virus called human metapneumovirus (HMPV) — which normally causes a mild cold-like illness — for the latest outbreak, though officials have yet to confirm this. The situation is similar to winter 2022/23 when China was hit with a wave of mycoplasma pneumonia cases, a condition dubbed 'white lung', which is also normally mild.

Doctors' warning as cases of HMPV virus ravaging China double in the US​

Western experts have publicly called on China to be more transparent about a viral outbreak overwhelming its hospitals — as data shows the virus is growing in the US.

Beijing is yet to comment on footage of overcrowded waiting rooms and wards posted on social media or reports of crematoriums and funeral homes overflowing with bodies.

It is thought China's outbreak is being fueled by the relatively unknown virus human metapneumovirus (HPMV), which normally causes cold-like symptoms such as a blocked nose, headache, shivering and tiredness.

Dr Sanjaya Senanayake, infectious disease expert associate professor of medicine at The Australian National University, said it was 'vital for China to share its data on this outbreak in a timely manner', including 'data about who is getting infected.'

He added: 'Also, we will need genomic data confirming that HMPV is the culprit, and that there aren't any significant mutations of concern. Such genomic data will also guide vaccine development.'

The silence from China has led some to fear there are similarities with the current situation and the Covid outbreak in 2019, which was initially played down by Beijing.

Their warning comes as the US experiences its own increase in HMPV cases, with positive test percentages doubling from the beginning to the end of December.

HMPV first emerged in 2001 and typically causes symptoms of a common cold.

But more severe symptoms such as bronchitis, bronchiolitis and pneumonia can occur, with sufferers experiencing a shortness of breath, severe cough or wheezing.

Children, the elderly and immunocompromised patients are at the highest risk of severe complications.

Because the virus is usually mild, its exact death rate is unknown. But experts estimate anywhere from 10 to 30 percent of patients hospitalized with HMPV die in the US.

Patients who've been struck down by virus ravaging China describe horrific symptoms: 'Worst I've ever felt'​

Patients who have been sickened by a little-known virus causing fears in China have described some of the horrific symptoms they endured.

Diane Davison, 60, a lawyer from Maryland, was hit by human metapneumovirus (HPMV) in April 2023 and was left 'unable to speak' due to 'violent' coughing fits.

She initially thought it could be Covid or the flu because many of the symptoms overlap, such as a fever, cough, nasal congestion, and sore throat.

After six negative Covid tests, Ms Davison, who is immunocompromised, knew something was wrong. Of all the respiratory infections she'd had in her lifetime, this was 'the worst I've ever experienced', she said.

Detailing her ordeal, she said: 'I couldn't get out more than a couple of words. I would go into violent, violent coughing to the point where I was literally almost throwing up.'

Following further tests and swaps of her nose and throat, doctors discovered the lawyer actually had HMPV. Ms Davison said: 'I was like, 'What?' Because it sounds really dire.'

HMPV, which some doctors describe as 'the most important virus you've never heard of', has been blamed for a viral outbreak in China that is reportedly overwhelming hospitals in the country's northern provinces.

HMPV is similar to other seasonal viruses like RSV which cause symptoms of the common cold. HMPV is thought to account for about 1 in 10 respiratory illnesses in children.

Though most cases are mild, some patients can develop a lower respiratory tract infection like pneumonia or, like in Ms Davison's case, bronchitis, inflammation of the bronchial tubes in the lungs, leading to a cough and other symptoms.

COVID mRNA vaccines ARE linked to alarming syndrome causing 'distinct biological changes' to body​

Experts from Yale University have discovered an alarming syndrome linked to the mRNA Covid vaccines.

The previously-unknown condition - which has been dubbed 'post-vaccination syndrome' - appears to cause brain fog, dizziness, tinnitus and exercise intolerance.

Some sufferers also show distinct biological changes, including differences in immune cells and the presence of coronavirus proteins in their blood, years after taking the shot.

The condition also appears to reawaken a dormant virus in the body called Epstein-Barr which can cause flu-like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes and nerve issues.

The full results of the small study have not yet been published, and the Yale experts emphasized the results 'are still a work in progress.'

Yet the findings, from a well-respected institution, suggest more research on post-vaccination syndrome is needed, independent experts said.

The next phase of their research will be to ascertain how widespread the condition is and who is most at risk.

Covid-like mystery virus leaves sufferers coughing up blood... with patients in multiple cities affected​

A mystery outbreak that is leaving patients coughing up blood and with a severe fever has been reported in Russia.

Local media and social media posts say the illness begins with Covid-like symptoms such as weakness or muscle aches.

But within five days, these progress to a fever of up to 102.2F (39C) and a persistent, bloody cough.

Posts on Telegram, the Russian messaging service, say cases have been reported in multiple cities, but officials have not confirmed how many cases or hospitalizations have been recorded.

The posts also claim that patients have tested negative for Covid and the flu, with doctors said to be writing down a diagnosis of 'acute upper respiratory tract infection of unspecified origin.'

The outbreak was first reported in the Telegram group SHOT, which allegedly includes members of Russia's federal agencies, and was then reported on by local media.

Today, Russian health officials have denied there is an outbreak, saying they have found 'no evidence of a new or unidentified virus circulating [in Russia]'.

Biden administration hid deadly health risks of COVID vaccines, bombshell report finds​

The Biden administration has been accused of purposefully covering up potentially deadly side effects of the Covid vaccines. A Congressional investigation found White House officials held back warnings about heart damage from Covid vaccines in younger people, even after getting early alerts from other countries, including Israel.

Internal emails and memos suggest a planned Health Alert Network (HAN) message by the CDC regarding myocarditis - inflammation of the heart muscle - was not released. Drafts of this alert reportedly downplayed risks, emphasizing vaccine benefits over potential adverse events, according to the report. Emails indicate FDA officials, including then-Commissioner Janet Woodcock, expressed reservations about the language in the proposed HAN, leading to its suppression.

The Biden administration, the report alleges, gave former top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci talking points to downplay the myocarditis risk, instructing them to say that the reported cases ‘have been mild and often go away without requiring treatment.’

As of now, there is no definitive count of deaths in the US directly attributed to myocarditis caused by Covid vaccines. Some argue that America's fragmented healthcare system means rare complications from Covid vaccines have been underreported.

Doctors issue warning over dangerous new Covid strain imported from CHINA that's now in multiple US states​

A new Covid variant behind a surge of hospitalizations in China has been detected in the US. Latest CDC data shows the new NB.1.8.1 strain has been detected among international travelers arriving in California, Washington state, Virginia and New York City. The patients came from nine countries — China, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, France, the Netherlands and Spain — between April 22 and May 12.

The variant has also been detected in Hawaii, Rhode Island and Ohio. There is some alarm over the new variant which is potentially more infectious than the current dominant strains.

In China, data shows the proportion of severely ill respiratory patients with Covid has jumped from 3.3 to 6.3 percent over the last month. The proportion of Chinese ER patients testing positive for Covid had jumped from 7.5 to 16.2 percent. Officials in Taiwan are also reporting a surge in Covid emergency room admissions, with the number rising 78 percent in a week over the seven-days to May 3, according to the latest data available. And hospitalizations have risen to a 12-month high in Hong Kong, thought to be driven by the new variant. Officials are telling people to mask up as a result.

The variant has been circulating in the US since late March. But there is no sign of a major uptick in cases at present — with the positivity rate of swabs detecting the virus falling 12 percent in the latest week data is available. The data showing arriving cases of the strain in the US was revealed by the CDC's airport testing partner Ginkgo Bioworks and reported by CBS News.

In this program, travelers at select airports can volunteer to self-collect two nasal swab samples and complete a short survey. These swabs are then tested for a range of diseases of concern, including Covid. The travelers behind the cases of the new variant were tested between April 22 and May 12.

Experts are closely watching the new variant, which is already dominant in China and is on the rise in parts of Asia.

Doctors issue urgent health warning as dangerous new Covid virus from China triggers US outbreak​

A dangerous new Covid variant from China is surging in California, health officials warn. The California Department of Public Health warned this week the highly contagious NB.1.8.1 strain has been detected in the state, making it the sixth US state to be exposed. The variant has also been detected in international travelers arriving in Washington state, Virginia, Hawaii, Rhode Island and New York City since March.

Health officials said the variant was first detected in March and has been on the rise since May 1.

Since April, NB.1.8.1 has increased from two percent of Covid cases in California to 19 percent, according to health department data. Lab tests suggest NB.1.8.1, which was first detected in January in China, is more infectious than currently circulating strains, which means it could lead to a spike in infections and hospital admissions. World Health Organization data also suggests it makes up more than half the variants currently circulating. The warning comes as some physicians in California have called for the return of mask mandates to emulate countries like Hong Kong.

NB.1.8.1 is not yet prevalent enough in the US to be publicly tracked by the CDC. Strain LP.8.1 is currently the most dominant in the US, making up 73 percent of Covid infections. The latest vaccines target the JN.1 variant, which LP.8.1 is descended from.
