Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus

It doesn't take a flawless data set to get a reasonably clear understanding of what's going on; all it takes is a modestly consistent data collection protocol. And since the testing in the US has been absolutely pitiful from day one, the criterion has been reasonably consistent, which gives us a workable picture. Chances are that we're only detecting the more severe cases, and missing the other 50-80% of the cases - but that's been true all along so the stats are still useful.

Certainly the broad trends that I've been charting with the CDC data indicates the overall trend over any given week; here's what that looks like as of yesterday:

I'm stunned that we still don't have a mandatory lock-down anywhere in the US with National Guard, the works. By not doing anything like that anywhere in the US, at least tens of thousands of people are going to die who could've been saved, and it's probably actually over 100K people who could've been spared.
I thought NYC And LA were locked down?

I wasn't going to say this, but here seems like as good a place as any,. My sister in law says she was at the grocery store and ran into one of her friends who admitted flat out that she had the coronavirus, This is frightening because one would think people who are infected wouldn't be allowed out in the public. But she says she was coughing and runny nose who whole nine yards. so, At least here in Kentucky. We have people with it going into grocery stores coughing all over the merchandise now one would think some sort of safeguard or security would be in place to prevent this from happening. But logically, I suppose people who have it have to eat too... It's getting scary out there.

It's like a political bloodletting of the masses.

Herd programme is alive behind the scenes. No lock downs, mixed messages and still no proper enforcement.

It's always been the plan to not overwhelm our systems and as long we don't we have succeeded and will have saved many lives but at some point we are all going to have to face it. Now would be a good time to shape up and lose those pounds.

This is one area where social media has come into its own with awareness and the word got ahead of the desease.

That's a life saver in itself.

A tiger at the Bronx Zoo tests positive for coronavirus

Nadia, a tiger at the Bronx Zoo in New York, has become the first of her kind to test positive for the coronavirus.

The 4-year-old female Malayan tiger tested positive after developing a dry cough and is expected to recover, the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo said in a news release. Samples from Nadia were taken and tested after the tiger -- and five other tigers and lions at the zoo -- began showing symptoms of respiratory illness, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). No other animals at the zoo are showing symptoms.

"Though they have experienced some decrease in appetite, the cats at the Bronx Zoo are otherwise doing well under veterinary care and are bright, alert, and interactive with their keepers," the zoo said.

"It is not known how this disease will develop in big cats since different species can react differently to novel infections, but we will continue to monitor them closely and anticipate full recoveries."

The animals were infected by a zoo employee who was "asymptomatically infected with the virus" while caring for them, according to the zoo. The Bronx Zoo has been closed to the public since March 16.

Anyone sick with the coronavirus is being advised to minimize contact with animals, including pets, until more information is known about the virus, the USDA said.

This updated map below gives a decent visual of how far the virus has spread and its concentrations, they say its about to get bad for the next couple weeks, looking at this map there are many areas that could blow up like New York, I hope not, its still possible things won't get as bad as they think...

Their numbers haven't moved in almost a month. Deduction shows We are to either assume the virus just stopped there. Completely? frozen in time, or they are concealing their numbers..

I mean, What do you assume? I realize people want facts and figures or for me to reveal Haha I'm a secret agent with photographic evidence, Common sense says they are lying about this Unless they have some sort of ancient Chinese magic and voodooed this away while letting the rest of the world suffer. I mean, You are aware that China has a lot of poverty and over a billion people, 1.6 billion people,. We are to ascertain this is completely contained over there and china has this? Common sense and logical deductive reasoning says otherwise.
China had a very severe lockdown. Once someone has the disease, it has a limited course before the sufferer either recovers or dies. The virus cannot appear spontaneously, but survives by being transmitted between people. Given the duration and severity of the lockdown, plus the fact that China has mandated mask usage for its people when out in public in affected areas, I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that they starved the virus of anywhere to go within their country. They are now having to deal with a backflow of new cases arriving from abroad, however, and this is where their new cases are coming from. All new arrivals are being quarantined.

Yesterday I was reading about how much Sweden is defending their style of 'combating' the virus by leaving everything open and allowing the people to social distance themselves, but their numbers of infected are climbing fast, are they not seeing this themselves?...Surely they must know given what's been occurring in other countries that the status quo will not help them...
The Swedish contention is that lockdowns do not make much of a difference to the overall outcome of an epidemic like this, and they give the example of their neighbour Denmark, who went into lockdown early, as not having a significantly better epidemic course when compared on a per-capita basis. It is an interesting experiment at least, and we will see what happens. It could prove a useful example to the rest of the world if their outcome is worse than nations that have implemented lockdowns to those thinking of abandoning their lockdowns early.

British PM admitted to hospital!
I think the Prime Minister's Office was spreading misinformation by proclaiming initially that the PM had only a mild disease. This ignores what is known about the disease progression. It typically takes a week or more for someone to deteriorate and begin to experience breathing difficulties. Reportedly the PM is receiving supplementary oxygen now. You cannot announce that someone's disease is only mild until they begin to get better.

Logical and humanitarian, but that would cause pandemonium and would probably cost more lives in the process. Even more extreme hoarding at a minimum, undoubtedly riots (the non self-isolating kind) over resources and endless attempt to flee which would just spread the contagion. Probably distract from the care giving effort. It isn't just Manhattan, the resources necessary to 'lock down' something the size the NY-Metro area would be akin to invading a foreign country.

We're already trying to choke down an elephant. No need to order seconds.

Nooooope.

I'm slightly upstate but have family in Manhattan. Metro North Railroad has three lines that radiate from Grand Central Terminal that serve a huge area - the New Haven, Harlem and Hudson lines. Something like 800 miles of track. The subways and buses are fully functional. All are operating on reduced or weekend schedules. The commuter parking lots around here are ghost towns.

The NY-Metro area covers the 5 boroughs of which Manhattan is only one, it also includes northern New Jersey and southwestern Connecticut. You can go where you want, when you want. The only road blocks I even know of are on the bridges into Manhattan and all I've heard about that is to ask if you're 'essential' and to if you have any symptoms. One person I know claims she had her temperature taken - Queensboro bridge.

In Dutchess county where I live I get the impression that too many people have had enough quarantine and the use of masks has emboldened them to come out for a lot of extraneous shopping that should be avoided.

Actually, that map encompasses quite a lot of the NY-Metro area except for NJ and CT. It isn't just the areas closest to Manhattan, it's the areas from which the commuters originate and there are a hell of a lot of them coming from surprising distances. 'Locking that down' would mean likely Big Army, not the Guard.

At that point we can build The Wall- no not that one - and call Snake Plissken.

Spain and Italy, yes. UK, no, which had a record number of new confirmed cases. The rate of deaths is not expected to peak here for another week or more.

Agreed, when I mentioned 'Europe' I wasn't including the UK, I have never personally considered the UK as part of Europe...

Me neither. Continental drift experts reckon half the UK is American soil anyhow..lol.

I'll take the good news as a precursor and nothing else. Our actions are showing the first signs of reversing the trend.

There were so many concerns over the second wave and that stems from the 1918 example where returning soldiers were spreading on huge numbers. Think of all the personal contact that must have occured in such a short space of time and created the deadly second wave theory. It just feels to me that an organism that does follow one of the three biological laws to classify as being alive would always give the first shot the best chance.

Gathering more I also think our understanding of mutation has been confusing, some implying it takes a look on the first visit, withdraws and then comes back having made the necessary adjustments, I heard a doctor explain the virus as mutating every 24 hours, while it is attacking and under resistence.

If it were fully alive, we'd be zombies within the hour, lumbering around with outstretched arms and still in search of toilet paper.

Good signs.
