I've heard of cases of people who have it here in Monroe country going to people's houses and knocking on doors and when people open, then coughing on them.

This hasn't made the news, It could just be urban legend. But stories of this are circulating.

A ray of hope: for the first time since this outbreak started in the US, the daily growth rate in the number of official CDC cases has dropped to single digits. The daily growth rate fell to +5.5% and the four-day-averaged daily growth rate dropped to +9.3%. This is not an anomaly - we've dramatically slowed the spread of the virus and we're close to halting its expansion within the US. Here’s my updated graph of the growth rate of official cases in the US:

And here it is by the numbers:

This helps a whole bunch. The old guy in the dress who claims to have a direct line to the invisible man in the sky says Mother Nature is pissed at us and coronavirus is the response. He lives in .... I don't know what .... but it seems awfully luxurious. Perhaps some of those billions upon billions they have might help just a bit easing the burden of the impoverished. I'd like to see some chart that compares their payouts for all the child f*****g to the amount spent on feeding the poor. Heard they mortgaged St.Patrick's for some 100 million and it wasn't to address world hunger. Careful if they're going to start talking about hypocrisy.

"We need to reconnect with our real surroundings....." Oh, really? What's his look like?

“This crisis is affecting us all, rich and poor alike, and putting a spotlight on hypocrisy,” he said.

I am worried by the hypocrisy of certain political personalities who speak of facing up to the crisis, of the problem of hunger in the world, but who in the meantime manufacture weapons.”

Pope Francis says coronavirus could be ‘nature’s response’ to climate change
popefrancis.jpg

Pope Francis likened the coronavirus pandemic to recent fires and floods as one of “nature’s responses” to the world’s ambivalence to climate change.

“There is an expression in Spanish: ‘God always forgives, we forgive sometimes, but nature never forgives,'” the pope said in an interview published Wednesday in The Tablet, a United Kingdom-based Catholic weekly.

The pope, 83, was responding to whether he believed coronavirus could spur ecological conversion, the idea for people to lead more environmentally conscious lives through the understanding that the natural world is a creation of God.

Pope Francis said the world had yet to respond to recent “partial catastrophes” related to the climate.

“Who now speaks of the fires in Australia, or remembers that 18 months ago a boat could cross the North Pole because the glaciers had all melted?” he asked.

“Who speaks now of the floods? I don’t know if these are the revenge of nature, but they are certainly nature’s responses.”

The pope went on to say he believed the COVID-19 outbreak that has ravaged the globe could inspire change.

“This is the time to take the decisive step, to move from using and misusing nature to contemplating it,” he said.

With more than 1.5 million coronavirus cases reported across the world, the pope said the virus has shined a “spotlight on hypocrisy” as large outbreaks continue to in the United States and parts of Europe.

“This crisis is affecting us all, rich and poor alike, and putting a spotlight on hypocrisy,” he said.

“I am worried by the hypocrisy of certain political personalities who speak of facing up to the crisis, of the problem of hunger in the world, but who in the meantime manufacture weapons.”

The Vatican shuttered Saint Peter’s Square and Basilica to the public as the virus proliferated through Italy in early March.

The pope said members of the Vatican administration were still working while practicing social distancing.

“The Curia is trying to carry on its work and to live normally, organizing in shifts so that not everyone is present at the same time,” he said. “It’s been well thought out. We are sticking to the measures ordered by the health authorities.”

The pope said he wanted a response from world leaders that focuses more on humans and the environment than the economy.

“I believe we have to slow down our rate of production and consumption and to learn to understand and contemplate the natural world,” he said. “We need to reconnect with our real surroundings. This is the opportunity for conversion.”

100 million is chump change in that neighborhood - call it a home improvement line of credit, not so much a mortgage. Imagine what it could've done for Country X, wherever that might be. Could build a school or two, maybe provide some clean drinking water, vaccinations .....

Aren't we having a good look at ourselves right now, even on a personal level I feel I should be doing more when I see those on the front line, good comparison there for a war time feeling for many who weren't involved. Never thought I would ever sense that.

The church I'm sure would list off many good causes they have set up and funded but I do know what you mean when a man in a dress thinks he is contact with the farmer. I caught a glimpse of him and he not only rendered me speechless but also some what brainless during and after the event.

Country X would bring on Y and Z, that is what we fear I think and creates our reluctance to do what are obviously the right things.

I had been meaning to bring this up for a moment, So, It seems like The U.S is now throwing accusation at the world health organization, I think the main point of contingency is The U.S or The Cdc is pointing fingers at the Who claiming their interests lay with China primarily, I just wanted peoples thoughts on this, Is this a result in your eyes as a failing of the World health organization, Or is this that things are so bad in the U.S at the moment and the U.S wants to lay some amount of blame on the Who? Trump is saying, We pay a lot of tax money to the World health organization and he views that as a poor investment because they haven't done the finest possible job in their response to this in regard to other nations as the Who seems to be China-centric in their focus.

That argument facilitates the thought of over population being the issue.

Don't forget your condoms lads !

now that I think about it, somewhere in this thread I suggested ‘population correction’. Apparently Wuhan and it’s environs have exactly the right mix of circumstances to create the problem. Sort of like the Black Plague did.

So at one level I agree with Pope Frank.

Finland bought a big load of new breathing masks from China, which it turns out are not up to the standards and useless in hospital use. What a damn shitstorm. And as usual in here, when it comes to responsibility everyone is innocent it seems.

I just hope people and governments don't jump the gun too soon and relax restrictions too fast or we will be dealing with a second wave...

In my opinion China has a lot to answer for but they probably won't, this virus should have never got out of China, they could have contained it in Wuhan if they were looking out for the greater good...

Researchers in Finland have created a chilling video that models how coronavirus could spread from a single cough in a supermarket.
