Diamond-encrusted COVID mask sells for $1.5M

Most coronavirus masks cost just a few bucks, but for those with enough cash to spare, it is possible to commission a mask so absurdly opulent that it will cost thousands of times more than that.

This 18-karat white gold mask, which is decorated with 3,600 diamonds, was created by jewellery designer Isaac Levy and his team for a customer with more money than sense.

The identity of the buyer remains a mystery other than that they are a Chinese businessman.

Weighing 100 times more than a typical surgical mask, the extravagant facial covering may not be all that comfortable, however it is fitted with a filter and should actually work as an effective mask.

"Money maybe doesn't buy everything, but if it can buy a very expensive COVID-19 mask and the guy wants to wear it and walk around and get the attention, he should be happy with that," said Levy.

"I am happy that this mask gave us enough work for our employees to be able to provide their jobs in very challenging times like these times right now."

The ridiculously expensive mask was eventually sold to the client for a whopping $1.5 million.
