"SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk is backing a brain-computer interface venture called Neuralink, according to The Wall Street Journal. The company, which is still in the earliest stages of existence and has no public presence whatsoever, is centered on creating devices that can be implanted in the human brain, with the eventual purpose of helping human beings merge with software and keep pace with advancements in artificial intelligence. These enhancements could improve memory or allow for more direct interfacing with computing devices.

Musk has hinted at the existence of Neuralink a few times over the last six months or so. More recently, Musk told a crowd in Dubai, “Over time I think we will probably see a closer merger of biological intelligence and digital intelligence.” He added that “it's mostly about the bandwidth, the speed of the connection between your brain and the digital version of yourself, particularly output." On Twitter, Musk has responded to inquiring fans about his progress on a so-called “neural lace,” which is sci-fi shorthand for a brain-computer interfacehumans could use to improve themselves..............."

Why do I keep hearing those famous lines from Star Trek:

"We are the Borg - Prepare to be assimilated - Resistance is futile"

I don't much fancy being some AI's meat vessel. I used to want to be the bionic man, was all set to start studying engineering and biomed and really give it 10/10 but... something changed. I woke up one day realising that it would be a terrible thing to do to my body and the bodies of others. Elon Musk knows only the physical ramifications of such a thing, while knowing nothing of the metaphysical consequences. Or maybe he does, and this is for the braindead masses to finally give up what tattered remnants of free will they still possess and become real zombies.
This stinks.

At the current moment, I am on a drug called Neurotine which shuts down some parts of my brain basically. This is to combat the pain if my back injury. If a neuro-lace would do this without chemical dependency I would try it. Plus, I think jacking into VR games would be a must with this technology. Knowing my luck I would wind up in a Sword Art Online Scenario.

And here is the strange paradox - Musk is one of the big shots like Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking that keep warning us about advancing AI and how dangerous it might be!

But I follow the same line of thinking - Sometimes I'm warning people about the nightmare world that might
develop if AI gets out of control or is controlled by some really bad people - Other times I see the future and salvation of Man happening becuase of AI, such as..........the possibility that a kind of immortality can be achieved - But that is not for all.

I loved sword art online one of my favourite animes.

I would merge myself into an AI in a heartbeat once my body got old(er :))
As for Bio-hacking, yes please :)
This place (below) sells injection rfid tags that go into the web of your hand. The second I am out of my little shed in the bush and have something of my own, I am getting one of these. As an electronics head myself, I can interface to the RFID sensors with everything from locking my doors to turning on lights.
I cant wait. Give me the matrix plug on the back of the neck and I would be first in line for that too.
I loved AI at UNI, HDe'd one unit, D'sd another. Aced them :)
The only part of computer programming that still really inspires me.

I belive the goal here is to merge the AI into the brain to Bio-Hack it's potential.

Just keep it away from the memory portions of the brain. You would still be you just enhanced. This could restore functions of the brain in people with mental retardation. It could be a wonder technology or the end of man. Either way i am for it.

I had a vision and i was going to make a thread on what will today's humans evolve into the next 100,000 years.I was thinking that humans will evolve into some type of computer because of all the data and binary codes that are in the air and used every day.I guess this answers the question as t what the vision meant.

Artificial intelligence huh...cough...cough....yea right. I keep telling people this is a trap but they don't get it. Drugs already can control the mind, and now you want to place a connection with a machine to a brain? Un huh, what could possibly go wrong?

Look people, I'm going to repeat this until I die or until you AI fan's dummy up enough to stop and think for yourselves for five seconds. There is no such thing as artificial intelligence. There is only machine intelligence. Machine intelligence is based on programming. The only biological forms of life which also operate on programs are called animals and insects. Now, go ahead and be stupid. Enjoy your new body along with it's programs.

The artificial intelligence part? Oh yea, that's you, the dummy who signs up to provide the intelligence... Don't you get it? You're going to be the artificial part to a machine. Not the machine to you. You've gotten it all backwards. Christ Sakes, wake the hell up, I mean seriously; you think they are forwarding this line of BS for the betterment of humanity? People who now control half the global wealth really give a shit about you or anyone else huh? Good Lord! Seriously....?

I'm sorry but really these people are not involved in this for your benefit.

OK, Sooooo Lots of statements there, lots of opinions. That's good. So, back em up.
Hypothetical, we have all seen the videos of cockroaches being controlled by probes and an ipad. I agree, cool for an experiment, but, who in their right mind would put their hand up for that.
However, If In the future I was able to have an implant that could make my type via a mind link as fast as I could think. 1000 skeptics like you have jumped up and down but can provide no evidence that there is any component that controls me. Why would that be a bad thing. It is not like you are going to be held down and forced to accept an implant. Your post is full of....shit??? Back it up. (no offence :) )

Merging AI to a limited degree would have many advantages.
One could control devices and machines by thought alone for example.
It could prove out in the long run that they could enhance our natural brain power. But I think genetic enhancements would go further with that.

As it stands - In this world now, and maybe for at least 50 to a 100 years - Humans are being subjected to
'nind control' and manipulation - And go back even further and you had the infamous 'snake-oil' salesman of the old days convincing you that you should buy their cure alls - Still goes on today, right?

AI can be dangerous - Musk is one of the leading developers of AI who has warned how dangerous it can be
- Now who would you trust - people saying no real danger in AI {like Ray Kurzweil} the attitude of a
fundamentalist preacher telling you the computer is the beast, or an intelligent business and science genius
who knows the future is dangerous, warns us all, and yet keeps marching forward?

Like I said earlier - either alternative is possible with AI - But face the truth - We have already met the
enemy - And it is us!

But in any case, and like it or not:

THE FUTURE IS NOW !!

Elon Musk AI, "I'M AFRAID WE ARE BUILDING SKYNET".. !!!

"
Elon Musk says are we building a real life skynet, I've read comments saying we're a thousand years off, these are about 990 years wrong. Elon Musk has spoken out against artificial intelligence b4 (AI), declaring it the most serious threat to the survival of the human race. Musk made the comments to students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) during an interview at the AeroAstro Centennial Symposium, talking about computer science, AI, space exploration and the colonisation of Mars. “I think we should be very careful about artificial intelligence. If I had to guess at what our biggest existential threat is, it’s probably that. So we need to be very careful,” said Musk. “I’m increasingly inclined to think that there should be some regulatory oversight, maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish.” ‘Summoning the demon’ The technology entrepreneur is often likened to a real-life Tony Stark from Marvel’s Iron Man comics for his role in cutting-edge companies including Space X, a privateer space exploration company that holds the first private contracts from Nasa for resupply of the International Space Station, and the electric car company Tesla.

Hmm, I don't like that view, as visionary as the man is, it is a very narrow perspective. It is like the stem cell argument. The opposition is based primarily on religious and moral objections. Which are all incredibly variable depending on the point in history that we find ourselves having the discussion. Very narrow in my opinion.
I love AI, it is for me the last great frontier in computers. Everything else is just as they say in Bali, "Same same but different"
I say grab it by the horns and hang on for dear life. Lets see where it takes us.
If we let moral and religious ideas get in the way we will be back to Galileo being locked up for Heresy.
Moral standards differ from place to place, so do religious beliefs and standards. This is Science and should not be governed by those narrow, biased boundaries.
I say bring on Skynet, we will defeat it, and use its tech to better mankind.

Seen enough AI movies to keep well away from this stuff. As mentioned Elon Musk did warn us about going to far with it. NADIA was created here to respond to Heath Questions it was a Government project but has now been pulled.
