The Interstates in these parts typically have a speed limit of 75 in open country. Lots of traffic runs at 80 or above, even heavy traffic. There is little margin for error in that situation.

I have often wondered if the posted speed was higher in the Midwest and western states given there are more open roads...I'm in a fairly rural area, most of the roads I drive are wooded or farmlands around them...

...

The Kansas legislature went through some silly contortions of semantics a while back in order to raise the speed limit on Interstates to 75. Before they could get comfortable with the change, which was favored by most people who drive, they had to convince themselves that Kansas is a "Western state" and it therefore made sense to match the neighboring states. They do the same kind of thing when dealing with liquor laws. The rationale, no matter how irrational it may be, has to be in place before they can sign off on making things more normal. Sometimes they barely manage to stay ahead of Utah in those matters.

I would go to Mars on one of Elon Musk's rocketships, as long as there were enough safeguards in place lol...

...

'Don't tax me, I'm saving humanity!' Elon Musk says he plans to use the $50BN he would be taxed under Build Back Better to 'get humanity to Mars to preserve the light of consciousness'
  • Elon Musk replied to a tweet about the proposed billionaire tax: 'My plan is to use the money to get humanity to Mars and preserve the light of consciousness'
  • Musk's tweet was in response to a Washington Post article that stated that the billionaire tax would heavily target the 10 wealthiest people in the country
  • Musk is currently the richest man in the country, world, and history with a net worth of $253.8 billion; Tesla's market value reached $1 trillion this week
  • Democrats have been fighting amongst themselves to introduce a billionaire tax to fund President Joe Biden's $2 trillion Build Back Better Plan

A friend of my wife has a Tesla. I have never seen it but I wouldn’t mind a test drive.

I am all in favor of setting up colonies on Mars. God knows we will have fouled up the planet enough that we need to move on. I have a hard time shedding any tears for an individual worth $253.8 Billion.

I just love listening to rich people whine about taxes.

I'm pretty sure Americans whine more about taxes than anyone else. I used to do it too, but then I realized I have it better than pretty much everyone else on the planet, and if I can't pay my share, then who is going to do it? I'm far from a one percenter or anything like that, just another hard working person with a good job. Actually, my income is very much average for the US, but compared to six billion or so other people, I'm living in luxury.

A friend of mine owns a business and works it so he doesn't pay any income taxes. He thinks he's some great job creator, but in reality he employs a few people at wages that are not sustainable for a single adult, let alone anyone trying to raise a family. He's a really good guy, but he has rationalized himself into a contorted bit of fantasy about that stuff. We all do things like that. In fact, I'd bet $20 there are aliens studying the human capacity for denial right now, and are amazed at our abilities in that area.

tall, thin, irritable
Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Jay Leno shatters $3m Bugatti Chiron's world speed record in $129k Tesla: Speed freak TV host clocks quarter-mile in 9.2 seconds - making Model S Plaid the fastest accelerating car EVER built

Jay Leno made history when he broke the Bugatti Chiron Sport's car quarter-mile speed record with a Tesla Model S Plaid, which has quickest acceleration of any car ever built.

On the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage, teased by MSNBC on Wednesday, the car-obsessed comedian hopped into the $129,000 Tesla at California's Famoso Raceway and set the new speed record at 9.247 seconds for a quarter-mile.

That beat out the Bugatti's previous record of 9.4 seconds, set during a Car and Driver test of the $3m Italian hypercar late last year. Sadly for Leno, his record only stood for a few hours, with a Tesla specialist driver managing to shave the time down to 9.234 seconds shortly afterwards.

I've watched a number of those videos showing Autopilot reactions when the AI is actively driving the Tesla...From what I've viewed it seems Autopilot avoids or attempts to avoid about 65 percent of the various incidents that took place, with the other 35 percent, the Autopilot did not recognize a threatening situation...I was shocked at first to see that one video clip above of both the driver and passenger asleep in the fast moving Tesla with Autopilot the only thing driving the car...I've heard a few reports of something similar but seeing it through the video footage has an impact when knowing those people are asleep in that car...

Teslas are being shipped out without USB ports because of a global chip shortage as customers blast Elon Musk's company after paying up to $62,000 for new car - and not being able to charge their phones

Tesla has shipped some of its new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles without USB ports because of the global chip shortage, the electric car manufacturer has told new buyers, as customers who couldn't charge their devices blasted Elon Musk's company.

Since November 11, the number of complaints on the lack of USB-C ports from new Tesla owners on Facebook and Reddit, as well as on the Tesla Motors Club forum, has been on the rise.

However, it remains unclear how widespread the problem is.

The average price for a brand new Model 3 costs $43,990 while the Model Y starts at $54,990, though there is also a Performance version that carries a starting price at $61,990.

Tesla would not not comment publicly but new customers who have complained have said that the company blamed the missing feature on the global chip shortage.

'Just got a call from Tesla about my Model Y LR. I am set to take delivery tomorrow, and apparently there are no USB ports installed in the car due to shortage,' a Tesla Model Y owner wrote on Reddit. 'I guess I'm looking for reassurance that the car is actually ready to go and wondering if anyone else has taken delivery on an 'incomplete' car like this.'

In a more recent update, the Model Y owner said the USB-C port in the front and center console of their car was missing, but that some were located in the area of the back seats and a USB-A in the glove compartment.

Yet, the wireless charging pad, located between the two front seats didn't work. Without these ports, the wireless charging feature in the cars cannot be activated.

Some of the affected buyers were told about the issue ahead of time, while others only found out about it on their own, sometimes once they finally received their new car.

Tesla has told new buyers they could schedule a service appointment to have the remaining missing ports installed in their vehicle 'hopefully sometime in next few weeks.'

I suppose there is nothing so gauche in there as one of those cigarette lighter sockets, the standard way to power stuff in a car for the last hunnerd years or so.
