Exercise, As we get older, it becomes very important.

As I get older, I find that If I don't get exercise regularly, I eventually get to a point that I have no energy and Can't stay awake or really function at all, Maybe it's not this way for everyone, I know not, But for me,
If I don't get in at least a thirty minute run on the treadmill three to four times a week, I may as well just not bother to even try to wake up because I won't be able too.

So I find myself exercising a lot on this machine that I have come to think of as a daily obligation.
By far the worst part of exercising for long periods of time is the mind-numbing repetition, Some people listen to music or podcasts, I usually find a decent video and play it on my phone. I've found by far the best way to get through this everyday grind is to get wrapped up in a video and not really think about the treadmill or even glance at the clock, Because, every time without fail only twenty-two seconds have passed since I last checked. Just saying :/

I don't know, I'm one of those people, I don't do it because I like it, I do it because If I want to wake up from sleep and not feel like I'm 41 years old, Then I need to get those runs in. What do you guys do to fend off boredom when you are having those long workouts?

I mean let's face it. I know most of us over 40 are getting exercise cause if you aren't you aren't awake to read this, <--- SP Logic lol

I'm 54 and am not old - depending on who you're talking to - but have noticed creeping arthritis in my hands and feet and now left shoulder as a result of past injuries. I literally force myself to exercise daily. And you have to make sure it's honest and not just going through the motions. This isn't online bluster - I bang out a set of pushups each morning very strict not too fast. These days it's 60. Walk 2-6 miles a day weather permitting and track it with a pedometer app. I had to give the gym a break these past few weeks because I pinched a nerve in my lower back - if I looked back and saw the shaft of an arrow sticking out it wouldn't surprise me. At the gym absolutely everyone has a phone on and their nose in it. I make a point not to and do what I came there to do in supersets - get that heart rate is up and keep it there. Sitting there occupying a bench or machine while phone poking as everyone seems to feel the need to do isn't productive, and apart from being inconsiderate is wasting time. I can be done in 30 minutes doing lots of situps, dips, free weights and cable/plate loaded machines. Then spend maybe 15-20 on a stationary bike. That's when the phone comes out to usually read or listen to a podcast. God forbid, sometimes I bring an actual book - but that's like unrolling a parchment scroll anymore. I used to get bulky but as I've aged stay very lean.

Nobody's going to take care of you but you, and rust never sleeps. This will be to my benefit later on, assuming I'm not run over by a bus or something.....

That's True, We have to put in those hours, no one will do it for us, I need to be doing more, An hours worth of walking a day and then sitting on my ass for the rest of it isn't really cutting it anymore lol :p

At Peace.
I play treadmill games.

First .12 mile is walking, then up it to a slow jog, and every .25 miles, up it again... keeps the monotony out... and delivers good time... even on a casual day. Yesterday I did 3.25 miles in 40 minutes... I slowed to a walk in the middle a couple times and started the up cycle again... just keep it from being so monotonus.
40 minutes went by fast this way...

Also doin math in my head to try to line up an exact mileage with an exact time is a fun game..

Absolutely. You have to switch things up a little or your body gets used to it and the benefits decrease. If something gets harder it's probably good for you.
