The impression one gets from Gene is that he lives only for instant gratification - new iPhone comes out - he must have it, he sees a new car he likes, he must have it and screw the consequences. If he started thinking ahead or budgeting he wouldn't be in the situation he is in.

He seems to be like a young child in this regard.

I remember when I was about 5 and my parents took me shopping I would want every single toy I saw. Now imagine someone had put a couple of thousand dollars in my hands - I would have bought everything in sight.

I think Gene seems to be stuck in that phase of thinking that material things are the most important thing in the world and he will do anything to sustain getting more. It doesn't matter if he has to lie, beg, con people or blatantly break the law.

He just needs that instant gratification that comes from fulfilling that immediate desire. The consequences are irrelevant to him - maybe he thinks he is old enough that he won't have to face them.

Instant gratification is fine if you have the money. If you are living hand to mouth like he claims, it’s quite a different situation to have all the good things in life.

sooo what happens in the state of Wisconsin if you don't pay a storage locker?
7 days late: a late fee is assessed. most are nice and charge a $25.00 fee..
14 days late: a late fee is assessed again this time for 10% of the few.
AT this point the locker company MUST try to contact you! all mail must be certified.
    All calls must be logged.
30 days late: Default! the locks are changed. a sign posted. the sheriff will serve,a notice of default.
7 days given to pay .
37 days late: the locker company now has the right to seize your stuff.
45 days late a lawsuit for the fees is issued.
60 days late: your stuff is sold at auction.
    the end

How much do you want to bet that most of Steinberg’s possessions a majority of people would consider to be junk.

Gene, fortunately your social security check arrives today! My advice: use that to pay for your storage and tires. Start up again on Uber and Lyft and use that to pay for the motel. Economize by eating at the senior center (creole chicken breast and vegetables are on the menu today) and going to the food bank for other things. Problem solved.

To anyone who might care, earlier I shared a file I created that includes all the show information for MYSTERIOUS UNIVERSE episodes over many years. I sent my file to MYSTERIOUS UNIVERSE at GhostBiedny's suggestion. He thought they would be impressed.

    No reply.

They seem to have become so popular that they now have to ignore all the contacts they receive.

I had a glitch and sent a question to their Tech Support 3 weeks ago.

    No reply. That's pretty tacky.

I really really appreciate your kindness in doing this for the visually impaired brigade (me).

Can you now pipe in some relaxing music to play when we read? Something with women sighing erotically in the background (my last sexist pig joke).

I actually checked out the local senior center in Phoenix. It is a really nice place although I felt a bit young. But I agree that they serve a hot delicious meal every day at noon for just a few dollars. But I doubt Gene would "lower" himself to go there unless he could drive up in a new BMW and they had valet parking and a private dining room for celebrities like him.

Where are these "real decent" conservatives you speak of? Certainly not in the GOP Congress. If Obama had done anything Trump has done, he would have been impeached by the 3rd week of his Presidency. Remember that they were upset because he wore a beige suit and his wife wore a sleeveless dress on one occasion. The indecency! Meanwhile, there are nude photos of Melania all over the internet and Trump has debased the Presidency to the point of no return. Yet not a peep from the GOP. So where are these principled decent conservatives? In history books?

Seriously, I think the GOP nutjobs drove all the decent moderate conservatives out of the GOP back in the 80's. Remember that I am 66 years old and watched the deterioration of the conservative movement into today's wack job lie factory.

It's his life and all (that he keeps asking everyone else to underwrite...) but I don't get why he wouldn't take advantage of this.

Seems a smart enough way to go $-wise and nutritionally, and it would get him (and Barbara) out of the motel room for a bit each day.

Maybe it is some pride thing. Is it possible to have pride and yet simultaneously have no shame?

If you learn one thing about Steinberg, he never accepts suggestions from anyone. Even if they are in his best interests. He always has some lame excuse why he doesn’t take help where it is offered. Here is a 73 year old man living out of his suitcase. Wouldn’t you think he might look at how screwed up his life is and try a different approach? It seems he knows best and would rather plead for money instead.

Give them some time I bet they get too many emails to process that fast.

I agree it is all in a terrible state right now but I don't think you can use them as representative of the vast majority of conservatives. The whole Trump thing is like a weird celebrity cult - now Kanye is getting in too. If it wasn't so damaging to the US image it would be funny like a reality show come to life.

Anyway best to avoid politics and stick to the paranormal. I have only so much politics I can take before I become exhausted.

That's one of the things that makes me question if things really are as bad from his perspective as it might seem. Most of us would hate to live in a motel, but Gene's incessant desire to change absolutely nothing suggests to me that he is content with his current situation and the declarations of misery are just not true. Perhaps in his mind exchanging a stable home for luxury items, gambling and begging are a fair and acceptable trade.

It is one of the few things make sense. Why change your lifestyle if you like it?

Plus, the Mesa senior centers will never turn any senior away even if someone is unable or unwilling to contribute. It is much better than begging a restaurant to let you eat for free or spending your last dollar at MacDonalds. While they are there, Barbara could enroll in an exercise or wellness class and Gene could join their writers guild and write the sequel to the Rockoids. The social services program could help them find needed resources that might get them out of a motel.

All of which convinces me that Gene would rather send out an email each day than take advantage of any program or do anything to actually change his situation. It's about his perceived status as the Tech Night Owl or the Paracaster.

Everything you state is true, but it will never happen. Why? Because Steinberg has been lying constantly and you can't believe word he says.

Recently he said he used his last dollar to purchase a hamburger. He then turns around and says he is putting away money for an apartment. So which is it? You have money for food or you don't.

He doesn't want to be perceived as having to go and get government assistance and yet he sends out daily emails begging for money. He has told so many lies he can't keep them all straight in his bald head.

His newly remodeling website is a farce. He has lost his membership by banning a good portion of them or driving away the rest by his antics. He won't change, that is painfully obvious.
