The shadow

The shadow knows!
That's quite possible. It's also true that most conmen are good at manipulating people. Gene loves to do his "poor pitiful old man routine" - I suspect it has worked on almost all of us at some point and it is easier to believe that than the fact that he is a lifelong grifter - unless you take the time to dig into his history.

He got me good for a while. My wife Was angry when she saw how we were played. She refuses with small exception to talk about the grift. She sees this as karma,Bad Karma.and for what it's worth she may be right.

I agree she may be. Some days I tell myself I should ignore it then I get another email and wind up looking at the responses here and elsewhere, or just can't hold myself back from chiming in.

Steinberg is a sad case and I don't believe he will change. It is possible the attention his story has gotten at the UFO Trail blog and elsewhere has helped some people who would otherwise be enabling him.

I should let it go, I keep coming back. I also find myself sometimes thinking in my own life, worrying even, "Am I being like Gene Steinberg?" when I want to spend money on something and know that I should stay within my planned budget. Of course I do not solicit money from others under any pretenses, never mind outlandish ones. And certainly sometimes I worry about being destitute in my old age, despite that my wife and I both are both saving and have 401Ks, and really the real challenge would probably be even managing to be alive into my 70s. Gene seems like a cautionary tale to me sometimes, a set of attitudes and circumstances and outcomes I want to avoid, if that makes any sense. I know it doesn't sound hard but perhaps at one time he never thought he'd wind up living as he does.

Even a cursory look at Steinberg should tell you all you need to know. He has never written about the UFO subject (don’t bother bringing up those lame Rockoid books.) He doesn’t attend or speak at conventions. He does zero work on his own show. The co-hosts have done all the hard labor. You only need to listen to a few episodes. Steinberg is only interested in comic book superheroes.

Worst of all are those who gave this charlatan their hard earned money. There are plenty of people who deserve monetary help more than someone who won’t lift a lazy finger to help himself. What more need be said?

Everyone should be setting aside retirement money. On the other hand, life is damn short. If you want to take a vacation trip or buy some item you desire, if is within reason, you should go for it. I have known too many people who have retired only to die shortly afterwards. Don't fall into that trap. Enjoy it while you can.

Just a slight change of tone (perhaps not slight) and I may have posted this not so long ago, but does anybody have any info on Phil Imbrogno? I seem to remember he was on the comeback trail but for obvious reasons that idea seemed to gratefully disappear.
he disappeared after he was found to be a fraud, its doubtfull he will ever return to the field...

i think he already knows, but he has better stuff to do than talking about this issue

Nobody cares if RPJ talks about it - indeed I can respect it if he doesn't want to get into the discussion. What I don't like is the quiet endorsement of Steinberg that he and his cohorts in the field provide by continuing to go on the show. If Imbrogno had a show would he go on that too?

I thought he (RPJ) was one of the better guys in the field but his whole stance on this matter has really lessened my respect for him. Seems only a few people in the community like Ritzman, Vaeni, Binnall, Brewer etc have the balls to call out scams. Everyone else just ignores them when it suits them - too much trouble to "rock the boat" and I suspect it isn't good for business.

I suppose the paranormal/ufology should come with a warning - "leave your ethics before entering".

yep, surprised me too

If I remember right he was claiming to be from MIT but the only thing he had to do with MIT was a Tshirt! I think it was Lance Moody that figured out all his credentials were fake. Just shows how easy it is to fake it online and most people will take it at face value.

I may take a second break from it.
I don't want to make a big deal about it.

I think we all need to be careful not become too obsessed with Gene lest we end up like him (at least in terms of living our lives online). Also we have had another blessed day without a beg. Maybe things are improving.

That isn't true. He goes on almost every podcast I listen to on a frequent basis and many others I don't listen to - it's not like there is a shortage of paranormal podcasts.

Another paranormal blogger.

So what? Endorsing Schemey is a lot worse than writing a "clickbaity" article as you call it.
