Yesterday on an outing I found these in a antique store.
A complete collection of the 1968 to 1978 UFO flying saucers comic book!
The comics are rare and cost money lots of money!
These reprint books give one a look at a strange chapter in UFO lore . And I wondered how they would cover famous cases
I also wondered if they would give any time to hoaxes like Billy Mier.
Today I start a journey into these lost comics and see if any value is to be found.
My first observation is that in 1978 they started a second comic called "UFOs and outer space" how ever.
The second series are just the same content renamed. UFOs and flying saucers comic had 14 issues the renamed book also 14 for a total of 28. Note the cover and the UFOs as hostile this theme is present in all stores. UFOs are not friendly and are to be feared
WOW ! Those covers look very familiar and I had them as a kid. Long gone now. Haven't though about this in years.
My grandfather worked for Western Printing (Publishing) for 40+ years as a lithographer starting in Racine, WI and ending up in the Poughkeepsie, NY until retirement. They printed Gold Key comics and I had tons of them. As a small kid he took me to the plant several times and I remember printing presses the size of houses with men walking around on them. Maybe those ^^^^. I have (and use) his Bulova Accutron M68 watch inscribed from the 3rd shift when he retired.
There were also Golden Books and blanks - comics that had not yet been stapled or printed that he gave me to draw on, which I did endlessly. I still have some - unsurprisingly in the late 60s I was drawing Star Trek spaceships
The plant's long gone. It had been a Fiat plant prior and between that and ink it was an ecological nightmare. It's a Home Depot now and I have no sympathy that they had to eat the cleanup cost to put up yet another one.

One of the most off the wall story is this one it starts with a alien claw attacking a LEM. And ask who is murdering our astronauts?
The story is divided into 3 parts each I will discuss in detail. Apollo 1 the death of 4 astronauts in accidents and soyuz 11. The story ask 2 questions.
"Who is murdering our astronauts? " And are UFOs responsible for death of 7 American and 3 Russian astronauts?"
Apollo 1. The story makes it seem as if the fire that killed the crew was caused by an outside force.
In reality it was caused by a spark that started a flash fire. This fire spread quickly. "We have a fire in the crockpot!" Was the last message.
The fire that took the lives of the three astronauts was the result of a design flaw. Nothing more. No aliens required.vthere is 100% NO evidence that the fire was anything more than what it was .an tragic accident..
Major Edward givens he missed a sharp turn and went into a ditch the accident was fatal. Givens was not scheduled for any flights and was a back up . As with Apollo 1 the comic makes it seem like an outside force caused his death. From my looking into his death it was an accident.
Next up is Elliot see and charles Bartlett in a plane crash. Note the illustration shows a passenger plane slamming into a mountain! What really happened was they were flying a T38 training jet.
See was piloting in poor weather See undershot the runway banked left and slammed into the VAB both were killed instantly. Cause: pilot error with weather the primary contribution.
No aliens needed. Nice try gold key
cc williams.unlike the others he was scheduled for flight on Apollo 12. Williams was flying his T38 talon when a bird strike took out a wing flap. Williams a trained pilot fought to regain control. The plane went into a dive. Williams ejected at 1500 feet. To low . Alan Bean placed his flight wings and rank insignia on the moon as well as a bit of his ashes. Gola key really dropped the ball on his death again and accident no aliens needed

Both in T38 talon training jet. Both suffered bird strikes. Both ejected to low. How ever there is no evidence that an outside force caused Thier deaths.
Gold key stated wrong facts in Williams death . Again Gold key sabotages its own premise with the wrong facts.
gold key makes this sweeping statement. .eight total deaths over a decade. Most were back up astronauts.
Apollo 1 was an accident the 5 others also accidents.

Before skylab mir and the ISS there was sayut 1
By any standard it was crude . The only crew she had was Soyuz 11. One of the flaws of the station was shared atmosphere. Meaning the air in the station was supplied by soyuz 11. This was done via a valve that had to be closed manually. When soyuz 11 separated from the station the valve still open. The crew had no time to act. The soyuz decompressed. The cosmonauts died instantly.
Hailed as heros the 3 were buried in the Kremlin wall.... Now we know what really happened let's see what gold key tells us..
