Grandpa and God

My 4 year old great niece has been asking questions about her deceased Grandpa (my brother-in-law.) 1. Why did Grandpa have to die? 2. Did God hate Grandpa? 3. Will she be getting another Grandpa in her life?

She was told, no God did not hate Grandpa. Grandpa was so funny that God brought Grandpa up to heaven in order to tell him jokes. Grandma told her that she doesn’t know if there will be another Grandpa.

Pretty heady questions from a 4 year old about life and death. Most adults do not ask questions like this and they probably should.

Must have been late after noon
I could tell by how far the child's shadow stretched out
And he walked with a purpose in his sneakers down the street
He had many questions like children often do

He said, "Tell me all your thoughts on God
And tell me, am I very far?"

Must have been late after noon
On our way, the sun broke free of the clouds
We count only blue cars skip the cracks in the street
And ask many questions like children often do

We said, "Tell me all your thoughts on God
'Cause I'd really like to meet her.
And ask her why we're who we are."

Tell me all your thoughts on God
'Cause I'm on my way to see her
So tell me, am I very far
Am I very far now

It's getting cold, picked up the pace
How our shoes make hard noises in this place
Our clothes are stained, we pass many cross eyed people
And ask many questions like children often do

We said, Tell me all your thoughts on God
'Cause I'd really like to meet her
And ask her why we're who we are

Tell me all your thoughts on God
'Cause I'm on my way to see her
So tell me am I very far
Am I very far now?

Tell me all your thoughts on God
Tell me all your thoughts on God

Strangely, my child is the most comfortable person on the topic of death I have ever seen. She just takes it as the natural conclusion to things. I cried buckets of tears when my oldest cat died in 2020. My daughter, on the other hand, just accepted it right away and still prays for the cat in heaven.

What a strong girl! I can't help but cry buckets for dying animals / pets, so I hear ya. Torture, they are --they need to live longer.
