So what happens to the people that have been cut off with no food and water ?

I feel deeply for these ppl. Losing their homes to fires and lava outbreaks..

I just hope the state of Hawaii can help them relocate and find temporary housing while they sort out their situation.

Building and living on top of volcanos is a risky business. But from what I understand the whole island consists of 4 of them..
So its hard to blame just the few that got hit

Do these people have volcano insurance?...

Do these people have volcano insurance?...

I would very much hope so......as was said living on an active volcanic rift zone is risky.

However, this case is bordering on foolish.......its a cool looking place......but I can't live somewhere without looking at a map. A map shows me that the people built the subdivision on an active rift zone as the image I posted indicated.

I even figured it out when I was in the area in 1990. In that area I saw 3 different layers of paved roads in one small area.....and was only able to drive on one as the other two were buried in lava. Would you want to live in an area like that?

It makes me wonder if they have been consulted prior to the building of the subdivisions being over run

Well, when the lava hits the steeets its not much anyone can do about it.. I read they've used drones to double-check everyone got out in time... They actually found and escorted 1 person out of the area through the bush, that way.. Follow the drone!

I wonder what happens if someone on Hawaii decides to drill for ground water garden irrigation..
Will lava spurt up instead of water ?

Personally I'd say they made a mistake putting people there in the first place. I'd also think that the water would have to be piped in......I'd be nervous drilling water wells in that area.....lol. Considering what is underneath places like the subdivision it would likely be steam instead of groundwater.

That's actually an excellent question......where did the estates get their water.

500 homes lost near the vacation land resort. I heard the reporter mention that the mayor lost his house too (?)

Is that even possible ? Dont think lava is very stable so close to the shoreline

It wouldn't be safe for years as there will be sulfide gas venting out years after the lava stops flowing. One of the rift zones I saw still had higher than average levels after a 1983 eruption.
