I think some of those 'checks and balances' that a godly one would impose upon themselves would turn into an automatic process, like a physical memory of writing, or throwing a ball, or riding a bike...
If that was the case, then every person who believes in a God and regularly goes to a place of worship would be so blissful that they would never succumb to life's stresses or emotional ails...

What about people who are abusers, murderers, con artists, fraudsters and so on... to what I have seen or read, it doesn't seem to me that godly people are excempt from such behavious...

I find it hard to believe if one starts to believe (genuinely) in a God and regularly worships a God their stresses and depressions would automatically go away...

Oh yeah no telling how their own free will disregard their god's will and commit all sorts of bad deeds or wrongs only to ask god for forgiveness and believe such forgiveness is given, hence washing those sins away...Then do it again and again knowing in their minds god will forgive them...

There was once a godly woman at work years ago, she always saying praises to god, bless Jesus and that sort of thing, get her upset though or the stresses of work get to her and she is cussing like drunks in a pub, she would go off on you in this stress then later at lunch pray to God for forgiveness only to continue it tomorrow lol...

The behavior can become automatic, both the checks and balances for god and the bad behavior...

I don't know what's up with the forum but I can't seem to get it to add a quote. It keeps saying added to multiquote but I can't see damned thing added myself.

"The behavior can become automatic, both the checks and balances for god and the bad behavior..."

Because....because....she was on auto-pilot. A religion is a program. It's a software program. Everyone knows the saying "trash in, trash out."

Fictional stories about people who read some book and then are doomed?
Those kinds of stories are symbolic for exactly this kind of self-programming.

I had a friend at High School who did similar. She was Catholic and was a very naughty girl and got up to some hair raising stuff and all she did was go to Confession, ask for forgiveness, said a few Hail Marys and she told me she was forgiven and her slate was clean so she could start up again until next Confession... I was ever so envious because I had to pay for my sins...

If one follows God's word according to what God says in the Bible and doesn't make up their own rules and not genuinely repent, they will find it doesn't quite work like that and my old school friend and that godly woman you knew could end up in Hell, burning away.... I'm supposing it depends on which version of the Chrisitian God you follow...

But you must repent sincerely. The idea that God cannot be mocked (Galatians 6:7) basically means that God sees right through someone who is not repenting sincerely. Sometimes, repeated sin can be an indication that the person hasn’t really repented, and is only saying that they repent. God is not fooled by that.
