Recently was the 40th anniversary of the first voyager probe containing a golden record with a collection of music, sounds, and images from Earth and information about us...

How would you explain humanity and the Earth today if you were the one who decided what information we send...What sort of information would you give, how much or how little?...

"SOS - HELP !!!"

Advanced alien friends we are stuck on a planet with a species not capable of evolving past its
animalistic origins - Its culture seems hopelessly stuck in the past.

The Middle East where its culture supposedly began as described in the Bible looks much as it did 5,000 years agoe - with its spiritulism still rooted in Man killing Man in the name of God.

So if you are a species of being evolved past this paradigm - please contact this planets rulers
and tell them how to dig their way our of the hell they still bask in.

That said, we have produced much creative art - Contact us and we will show you as much as your species wants.

Thank you,
-AlienView,
Emissary of Earth

Fading day by day.
I am one of the ones who thought it a very bad idea to send out in the first place, but, keeping to the question.
I would scan pages of history books from all parts of the world. Books released at 100 year intervals.
I would add religious texts from all faiths, including atheists. Digitize science journals, and texts.
Then let them decide if they want to teach us or eat us.

I think they would stay as far away as possible, if they didn't then I would question their intelligence. lol

Yes a bit like the old Joke of an orbiting alien craft listening to our news casts and watching our TV. "No intelligent life here, lets move on" :)

I'd almost be tempted to tell them to stay away, thinking about it, unless they were up for the job of strong arming certain individuals into the 21st Century. It sounds a little pessimistic, but we can be so barbaric and ready for warfare, that I don't know if anything could make a difference -- especially when it's 1 step forward, 2 back.

Well Dundee, I am also one of those chaps that does not agree with making ourselves known to aliens out in space...Granted we have visitors here already, but we're still here so some may be bad but it's very wrong to send signals out, or probes carrying information about us...

We don't know who is out there and there could be some really nasty evil guys just looking to conquer a weak virtually defenseless planet such as ours...Of course there's probably some really good guys out there but we don't have to worry about those so why risk it?...Wait until we've figured things out more, get better tech and able to protect our planet better then sure let's go exploring and find new worlds and all that star trek stuff...

I would explain humanity by first trying to make sure they take notice of the signal, are able to decode it, and then follow it with instructions on constructing a very basic medium of communication and how to use it to reach us in order to signal, beyond a doubt, that they've received it, and the extent to which they were able to decode it, which would also act as a test of their intelligence and overall development.

If that was successful, I'd make sure as many people on earth as possible could have access to this communication channel so that no one person could hold a monopoly of what is shared or not shared, and also so the Aliens can make up their own mind.

I'm not one to be afraid, since this Earth could at any point have an extinction-level event, and whatever information could come out of that contact may well be necessary to ensure some chance of survival and individual/societal/technological development beyond what's currently known.

For me it's not about fear but common sense, it's wonderful to explore other planets and some day if we don't kills ourselves first mankind will send probes to other solar systems like we do the planet's in our own....I think we should be a little cautious in our actions in deep space, we don't know what's out there....We used caution and made sure our space suits could handle the needs of depending on them for survival in space, the same should apply with sending signals haphazardly in space...

Most people are caring individuals and it is sad that media concentrates on the bad stuff people do and offers little about the ever day, more mundane, kind and caring things people are always doing...

Well done, Nivek.

I could not have said it better myself. Which is why I didn't. lol

I believe our galaxy is teeming with intelligent life. I have no doubt that all of the alien civilizations within at least a radius of 50 parsecs knows enough about us to know what to expect. We're advanced, yet not evolved enough to handle our technology -- the situation with North Korea is a sad example of this.

I think it's possible any intelligent space traveling species probably knows enough about us to stay hidden from us...
