Hudson Valley UFO sightings

Todd Feinman

Dogs are angels that poop in your yard.
Gersten, who has been described by ufologists as "UFOlogy's foremost ambulance chaser" and has been accused of "turn[ing] the once respectable CAUS into a fringe new age association,"[8] was in 2012 reported to be intending to jump off Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona, with Gersten saying, "I believe that some type of cosmic portal will be opening at that time and place and that an opportunity will present itself. I fully expect that it will either lead to the next level of this cosmic program; freedom from an imprisoning time-loop; a magical Martian-like bubble; or something equally as exotic."[9] Gersten "wandered home" when his predicted vortex did not appear.[10]

As of 2023 CAUS is listed as an inactive organization, with its non-profit status revoked.

And that's the problem with witness accounts and other evidence; people will listen to a degree, and you can wedge your foot into the doors of their minds, but unless they have experienced it for themselves or have testable proof, nothing really moves forward. And the majority of sightings and contacts are like that. Even when there is some kind of physical evidence (and there has really been none that has been shown to be truly anomalous), there is disagreement about results, etc., as with science generally. Even if there was a government announcement, many wouldn't believe it.

When I started this thread six years ago ( !!! ) I knew the majority of what I have found revisiting it but the thing I never had before was Gersten. Never heard of him. I'd heard bits and pieces but now have a much clearer picture of what happened.

Had those two jokers stayed home we would never had heard of this and the story would have been local and forgotten and would not be about boomerangs or triangles. At the time most of us knew what we were looking at and that includes the air traffic control tower in Danbury, CT as well as the one at the small Dutchess County Airport. In fact, Danbury was pissed. I think if you drill back in this thread the article's there.

If the people in Roswell were saying something like what I am saying would anyone listen? Nobody really was too worried about it until Berlitz and Moore came along and defined the narrative but that's beside the point. Now they sure won't say that because it's industry, the same way the people of Gettysburg will now tell you it's haunted and rent you an EMF meter. I wonder when the Pine Bush UFO Fair is this year?

The hoaxers and military aircraft were just kindling and Gersten and Imbrogno were the arsonists fanning the flames getting people all worked up. We now know the latter was completely full of shit and the other sounds out for attention. At a minimum during that period they each had an agenda that wasn't exactly figuring out what was going on it was to push their theories.

This is a really nice old library in a section of town with lots of 19th century buildings that have all sorts of subtle and beautiful architectural touches. Turrets, eyebrow windows, massive doors. Untouched old burned abandon train station. There is a certain look to 'Upstate New York' and this is it.

Seems Thrall has themselves a Fortean enthusiast who organized a directory of theirs on such things. I have a contact out to him to see if he may remember the 2009 Goshen/Florida reports.

Orange County yesterday on unrelated business and took a drive on the north side of SWF for the first time in a long time.

I did several jobs right across the road and can definitely put myself in in that same area in the 1992 - 1993 time frame. That's when I saw rows of C-5 tails off 17K.

So many years have passed it looks nothing like it did then and there is no sign of military activities from the road. There's a big control tower building there now.

Geography is part of why I say these large military transport aircraft are part of this UFO story.

Unfortunately I don't have the ability to pull out my camera and catch something while I am on the interstate doing 75 mph to properly show this. If you were sitting next to me in the truck you'd say something like 'oh, I see' Today coming home from Middletown headed east toward the Newburgh - Beacon bridge I realize the ANG base and commercial airport are at the point just before where you start descending in elevation as you get nearer the Hudson River. From there you are about 5 miles from the river and can see the 1600' Mt. Beacon on the other side. If you drew a pie shaped area south by east from there you'd run right into Monique Driscoll.
1716060273152.png

That applies to Mahopac, Carmel, Kent ..... the areas where a number of reports originate.

The hills block the view of the airport from the east side of the river, even when you are way up on I84 at the 984' Elevation marker.

That means that those large planes new to the area could be up in the air maneuvering before we see them and they tend to behave in ways unlike commercial aircraft. I've seen it myself many times coming home from work at an ungodly hour coming down the big hill toward the Taconic Parkway and all of a sudden there's a bright weird low light WTF WTF ????!!! thing right over there.

You don't always see the red/green lights and sometimes they do have those powerful landing lights on. Based on the general location of many of the reports, including the one blurry pic that kid took a picture of, I can believe this had something to do with it. The east side of the river, especially south of I84 is very hilly and craggy with dark wooded ravines. I've read reports where people have mistaken Venus for being followed as it seemed to move. Seeing genuinely startling lights in the sky that actually are moving, and may come in and out of view due to the terrain is one possibility for what Monique Driscoll saw.

It's also another ingredient in the stew that includes people deliberately flying around faking a UFO plus two self interested agitators making sure their version was the one that stuck. I saw Night Siege was available at Thrall. See ? Once something gets out there it never goes away no matter what.

If I had a YouTube channel and repeated that enough, especially if I had some weird physical appearance, it would become canon to some.

Incidentally @ Terra I believe your sighting. in fact, I like that one plus the couple in Poughquag who saw a greenish pyramid floating behind an oak tree an hour after the state troopers confronted the small plane hoaxers only a few miles away.

I just want to to separate the wheat from the chaff. Since I have had a lifelong interest, live right here and have a certain perspective and am basically retired I figure what the hell, why not?

God this brings back memories! I’ll try to dig up some of my photos from Stewart.

The Thrall library used to be in the center of downtown Middletown, which went to crud years ago. It’s nice to see the new building!

You are an amazing person to share all of this, Pigfarmer!

I told you I became an aircraft mechanic, but I didn't say where... These are from the early days of digital cameras, 2002, I think. Ieft shortly after taking these. I have a few more that I will dig up for you.

Here are a few pictures from inside the gate, on the flightline. The last 2 are shots of the Hudson Valley on top of the T-Tail. The last is driving OUT of the gate when we had protesters

-Looking across the Hudson you can see the prison
-A good gauge of how large the tires are

As I said… I became obsessed with my sighting. So much so that I made it my life’s mission to figure it out. All of the sightings around Stewart coupled with “it has to have been an aircraft” made me want to prove to myself that what I experienced happened. I threw everything I had at it. My professional life, everything. Later I got in a TON of academic trouble for challenging the whole “junk DNA” theory in my career that paralleled being in the guard.

I didn’t live in the area when I was in the guard, I was an out state traveler who flew in and stayed in the hotels on guard weekends. That was goldmine time for me because all the other travelers - most of whom were pilots, would share their UFO sightings.

Glad you liked it and you are very welcome !

Middletown got retail monstrous right at the I84/Rt.17 exchange to the Fairgrounds; umpteen stores, Walmart, fast food, tire stores .... schlock. Keep driving down 211 and it looks more like it always did, which is a dump. It's trying though and like a lot of places it's a mix of what looks like thriving small business and ... not so much. Lots of interesting old architecture and my wife and I never felt unsafe or anything. We can't say the same thing about the City of Poughkeepsie, no no no no.

Very cool pics and thanks ! There are some 'classic' cars sitting there in one shot. You see that Mt. Beacon and the the terrain on the east side of the river is a bit hilly, eh? #1 witness in 1983 to the 'wave' was on the other side of it driving her car down dark roads and looking over a lake at unfamiliar lights coming from right about the direction the airport is.

Those pics are about what I remember from the military side of SWF back when. If you were there in the early 2000s I think I was too - somewhere. I'd get occasional service calls for the autovon phone systems the military uses, public circuits for different things, paging systems, gate openers, etc. I always seemed to Forrest Gump myself into some interesting places and that's a coworker and I got the C-5 tour from the maintainers.

I don't know exactly where you were when this happened but I assume someplace on I84. I noticed the article was datelined from Wallkill and seeing the concert lights at the fairgrounds from there seems improbable, especially considering terrain.

So @Terra - bearing in mind I am a just a nitwit with an interest - do you remember location, direction of travel, time of day ?

I know it's been a long time but you have the same google maps I do so have a look. You'll see lots of new construction massive warehouses now but there's still a lot of the same swampish scrub and undulating miles of grassy farm land complete with picturesque old barns etc. Not the same as Dutchess/Putnam/Westchester on the other side of the river where I am.

Absolutely! I’m going to get very descriptive here, so PLEASE bear with me!

On 211 there used to be a group of stores in half a square mile. I don’t know what they are now but at the time there was a Lloyds store which was like a Walmart of the time and next to that was a Caldor plaza. That Caldor plaza had a parking lot that was adjacent to the parking lot for the fairgrounds. In between the Lloyds and a Caldor was a small, tiny wooded place on a hill everyone would go to and sample weed/drink/etc. Directly across from Lloyds was another center with a Rickels and ShopRite. Behind that is a hill with a few houses that overlooked everything. The owner of Lloyds, named Harold Lloyd lived right nearby - I assume to overlook his store before the area took off. THAT is where we were situated. This was hours after the concert so both parking lots were almost empty. I remember specifically looking at the only thing that had lights on was the Friendly’s ice cream shop. Many people used to go and hang out up there just to overlook the area. It was nice back then.

I’m going to write on the next few photos
