Hurricane Maria

If you look at the computer model you can see Jose above Maria and a third system to the east that's preventing either system from moving out into the Atlantic.

It's not the storm systems that's preventing them from moving out into open water. It's actually a very strong "Bermuda high" until that moves off hurricanes will continue to ride the east coast or go into the gulf. Think of high pressure as atmospheric mountains. Low pressure systems don't climb those mountains they find the valleys in between them. You can see what I'm talking about if you look closely at that video you posted.

My fears may seem correct. Looks like Maria is posed to strike NYC or somewhere around it. The Pacific shortwave seems to come in later allowing it to crash into the east coast rather than push her out to sea. This could change and it probably will but right now it's not looking good. Anybody from NJ to New England should watch this closely.

Hold on to your butts. Latest mods are coming in WEST. This is the new spread from all mods. NYC watch out. Category 1 or tropical storm, this will crush NYC like a category 4 on Florida. NYC is not built for hurricanes.

There's been less damage than feared to the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico.
Damage to Arecibo Less Than Feared
One element of the telescope that was damaged was a "line feed," or antenna, about 30 meters long used to receive and transmit radio signals at a frequency of 430 megahertz, primarily for atmospheric studies. The line feed, suspended from the top of the telescope, fell and crashed through the dish below, damaging about 30 panels out of the nearly 40,000 that make up the dish, he said.

A separate Gregorian mount used for radio astronomy observations was not seriously damaged. "The Gregorian was inspected yesterday," Gaume said. "That seems to be intact."

A separate 12-meter dish at the observatory, built several years ago, was initially reported to be destroyed. "That turns out not to be the case," he said. "Communications has been a real difficult problem. Information as far as what the damage is is still coming in, but overall, the word that we have is much more optimistic than what initially heard from Arecibo."

This shows how much power is back on or being used in Puerto Rico compared to pre-Maria...
