I realize the science of weather forecasting has improved dramatically in recent years. It's certainly much better than it was even 15 or 20 years ago. That being said, I'm still extremely frustrated that Hurricane Florence now could very well strike the US East Coast as a major hurricane and forecasters are at a loss to say what it will do or where it will do it. The cone of probability as of 9/7/18 still includes most, if not all, of the eastern seaboard and there are 2 or 3 new waves following in its wake.

"I hope it stays out at see. I have this horrible gut feeling that the NC Outer Banks area is overdue for a major storm."
    Sheltie, Sep 2, 2017

I would like to officially retract what I said on 9/2/17 in the Hurricane Irma thread about NC being overdue for a major hurricane. I wish eternal blue skies and sunny days upon the Mid Atlantic. Furthermore, my intuition is always wrong and unreliable.

Florence must be very serious if the Navy is planning to move their ships out of the area around Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Here's a very recent forecast of tropical storm Florence, tropical depression Nine & tropical storm Helene. Florence could reach a category 4 by Wednesday.

Nine isn't on the list and it should be Gordon. Maybe because it's only a categorized as a depression.

No no, no no no we are not overdue for a major hurricane...:ohmy8: Especially one named Florence...

Seriously though I hope it doesn't strengthen into a powerful hurricane before it hits the east coast...

It's gonna suck at the coast, But once it hits land it will begin to power down.

One thing I haven't heard mentioned in the news is that the current most likely path would take Hurricane Florence directly over the City of Florence. Florence could be devastated by Florence. Everything about this storm is weird!

I'm hoping something happens and it downgrades into a tropical storm, This happens sometimes, let us hope for the best.

It will definitely strengthen to a major hurricane because the coastal waters are so warm right now. Hopefully, praying with fingers crossed, it will stay out at sea.

A friend of mine said Jim Cantore has just landed in Myrtle Beach. It's official -- SC is screwed.
