Have to comment here because it is a given that humans will move towards this idea of technology enhancement for a number of reasons. Of course it will eventually be marketed and sold, and of course it's dangerous, probably stupid, and certainly isn't going to change how humans quote, evolve, at least not normally, but then it's for the aware to realize that despite however attractive, however seemingly good, this seemingly personal quest by an previously unknown nobody named Bryan Johnson probably isn't as accidental as he himself and others probably think.
Look at this extract from the article as an example.
" Bryan Johnson, a 40-year-old tech entrepreneur who sold his business for $800 million and decided to pursue an insanely ambitious dream—he wants to take control of evolution and create a better human. He intends to do this by building a “neuroprosthesis,” a device that will allow us to learn faster, remember more, “coevolve” with artificial intelligence, unlock the secrets of telepathy, and maybe even connect into group minds."
First of All: Love how the logic works here. Also this should be fun to watch for those young enough to live through the next 80 years of humanity, but there's so much wrong with the thinking going on here; not intentionally and not without the potential to help some people, but serious misconceptions and misunderstandings pave a dangerous path.
The first misconception is a personal one, and that is the idea that by "chance of a lucky break" a self appointed goody two shoes, Bryan Johnson in this case, is going to use his riches to pursue a personal dream. Now why is this a misconception?
First off, big fish eat little fish and most prey items are those whom are unaware of potential danger and the get gobbled up. Here's the thing about this. Our world is one where the ubber, ubber, insanely rich run the planet. For example, between Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Jeff Bezeos, these three alone now have the entire wealth of 50% of the people of the United States. Now of course this cannot end well...history teaches us this much. It's insanity of course to allow this to continue, but it will because most people are just like Bryan Johnson. I was once upon a time, and so most of these people are unaware that we have self appointed masters, and whom see us all as their livestock which they are themselves free to use as they see fit.
Now of course people here on Alien Expanse realize there's truth in what I've just said, so now lets look at what's really happening here. Look at this like you're a giant fat fish and now here is a specific prey item you've been searching for. What is it? It's a person whose motivations are to help humanity. That's the first item on your shopping list. Second item is how to use them to get what you want and to profit off them and their labor, and thirdly you hope to use the ill gotten loot to further your own complete mastery over what you now control.
In other words, you have to think like a criminal in order to understand what is going on, and you have to do that from the perspective a giant. Look at what they get out of buying Bryan Johnson's tech company. Patent rights, intact facility with working staff, probably putting him on as a consultant, and so on and so forth.
So now they own what he had owned, they now have the means, in theory and in legal rights, to the technology, and most important of all they now have someone whose life goal is to accomplish what they want. The only thing missing is that the willing slave is unaware of the real objective. That's why he is the prey, because it's only when they are done with him that it finally dawns on him, and then it's too late: He will have done their bidding, lost everything to them, and quite possibly actually worked against the lofty goals he had set for himself to help humanity.
Now let's get down to brass tacks. Mind interface with a group connected technology. Gee what could possibly go wrong? As I've previously stated the single most defining characteristic between humans and animals are instincts. Instincts are programs, like virus programs, which take over an cannot be broken.
For well over a hundred years now this objective has been pursued. First with drugs, then with mind control programming schemes, and now we have the third wave in the attempt to completely enslave the ape people of earth with an artificial instinct program. It isn't called AI for nothing. It's called AI for what its' real purpose is; to create an artificial instinct which can be placed in the mind of humans.
Now if you wanted to say take over the minds of people, to enable complete control over their lives, then this here is golden dream if it can be marketed to an unsuspecting prey and if the technology can be made to work.
