Clinton did try to kill bin Laden with Operation Infinite Reach

That wasn't what I was talking about. Unfortunately what I was talking about was just an anecdote in an interview with Ralph Pezzullo that I had just heard. Should've chased it down before making reference to it. If I find anything I'll post it.

Stop bombing the crap out of everyone? No argument from me. Like @nivek I have a teenage (great) nephew that I would prefer to see do anything except tote a rifle around a foreign country.

At this point we should just completely withdraw from the Middle East. That's what I wanted a few years ago. Knew it was a mistake to be in there in the first place. Nothing bad could possibly happen, right? Like a Caliphate?
We'd better be prepared to take Israel with us because I don't our enemies make much of a distinction between us.

War and the threat of war have been looming since the creation of the atomic bomb. Really no matter what actions we Take, There will always be someone that wants to harm our institution. It could be some foreign nation like North Korea, or someplace in the middle east, The problem is the economic climate. People think there is some Proper way to avoid conflict. The Sad truth is, War in some capacity is coming and it has been, and even after this conflict is resolved, It still will be. Just as there is no action that someone can take that will allow them to be liked and accepted by everyone, There is no Policy or commitment America can adopt that will universally make everyone want peace. We could literally be the most giving and tolerant and accepting nation on the planet, Helping charities and feeding the hungry and someone would still want to nuke us. We Can't live in fear, That's exactly the end result of terrorism. If you live in fear, you can easily be controlled with that fear. The fact is, we could all die at any moment, Not even the next five minutes are promised to anyone. So, the question is, Do we live in fear of a consequence of war that we can not prevent no matter what we do?

No, We can only live our lives. Some people will hate us, But, Come on, It's no different than it was when we were growing up, Some people will hate us no matter what we do. The threat of someone nuking us isn't about political jurisdiction. It's about, Greed, And power and People want to take that power, With greed and war. We are always in danger? Ever rode the city bus? There is a good chance someone on that bus wouldn't have had any problem ending your life for a myriad of unjustified reasons. People aren't fair, People aren't just, And that some people believe fair and Just is the norm is kind of nieve, No nation became a nation without fighting someone and telling others how to live by imposing their laws. Don't live in fear, Because there is always a reason to be afraid of something. You could save ten lives today, Then Donate a kidney to ST Jude, And someone somewhere would want to kill you because that kidney didn't go to his sister who needed it.

We have to live Life and thrive in the face of adversity Because adversity will always be there.

All that is going to happen is that one more dictatorship is going to goose step into becoming parliamentary democracy, as Iraq, Libya and Egypt did. Slowly, but steadily number of unellected dictators is diminishing and hopefully completely dwindling to zero.

Agreed. We could fill the world with milk and honey and still be the target of hatred for somebody, somewhere. A Caliphate composed of the lactose intolerant maybe.

There are many with legitimate claims and many others who are simply anarchists who give lip service to a cause but who thrive in the chaos. In any case it's always useful to play Devil's Advocate. There are several versions of this same interview with UBL floating around, some more complete than others. Hard to argue with a lot of what he said. Viewed rightfully as an occupation and they are engaging in asymmetric warfare the much same way the Vietnamese did against us.

Text: Osama bin Laden's 1998 interview

When you get into all the ... well let's see .... how to put this .... all that bugfuck crazy religious shit ... then I start to think that no matter what there'll be no end to it.

Iran won't mess with you guys and by the way I would like to thank America for taking this much needed type of approach. The backlash will more than likely show it's head across Europe in some frustrated form as they know which side their bread is buttered.

Oil is all they have and they now know what is at stake if they go direct.

Sadly Boris will align with the EU stance in searching for reforming fanaticism but I hope to see a hint of approval.

America does what it says on the tin and there isn't many on the shelf here in the West.

X Salami had a huge hand in gunning down 1500 innocent people just the other month because they stood against the regime.

2019–20 Iranian protests - Wikipedia

Forty years of no democratic voice that has been calling for a regime downfall. The crowds at the funeral give the impression of the loss of a respected figure but it is expected and just like the clapping North Koreans, safety in numbers I guess.

I'm not keen on us focusing on Salami helping the Kurds and us in breaking the caliphate, he had huge interest to see it so and I reverse the above as us helping them.

Obama and the EU funded this mess.

Jimmy Carter is one of the most honest presidents we have ever had. He is a deeply religious man who cares about people and tries to do the right thing whenever possible. Nevertheless, he was one of the worst presidents in US history when it came to foreign policy.

We tried every form of appeasement possible with Iran during the hostage situation and it accomplished absolutely nothing. The Iranian leadership is made up of fanatical extremists who only understand force. Jimmy Carter did not personally support the Shah or his brutal tactics but the Ayatollah didn't care. He and his regime did not make a distinction between Carter and the United States as a whole. They only cared about their preconceived idea that the US is Satan.

Joe Biden claims, if he were president, he would not have called for the drone strike on Soleimani. I seriously doubt that! If he were pres, I believe he would have ended up doing exactly what Trump did. Going the appeasement route with Iran is a big mistake and everyone knows it.

Good time to trot this one out. Ayatollah Khomeini's funeral. You can see several thousand years of high culture at work here. FF to about 1:00

Nothing like flipping grandad out of the box to express your undying love. Oh, BTW. The chopper's a Iroquois variant. A Huey. Made in the USA. Not really connected to anything but I saw some some delicious irony there.

Actually, that scene was real emotion. The crapola we saw for Soleimani was a bunch of 'crocodile tears.' Staged for media consumption

Richard Nixon was fairly close to the Shah. He publicly visited him in the hospital during his exile. Jimmy Carter, on the other hand, felt great disdain for him. He very reluctantly allowed him to come to the United States because he needed medical treatment. Damned if you do, damned if you don't, Carter was openly reviled by Iranian revolutionaries for what may have been arguably a humanitarian act.

Good you found that clip. I remembered that one as well. Just illustrates how backward and disorganized these people are. They are still stuck in agrarian society. No wander they deem normal to behead their victims.

Honestly, I hadn't even heard of this when I posted that clip. Here you go - what's old is new again. Those folks know how to throw a party. Little rough on the furniture.

21st century barbarians lol, aren't there still a few islands and/or remote places in the world where head hunters still thrive as well?...Not meaning to put down these folks but it becomes a dangerous situation when they get their hands on modern technology...Yet is the electric chair more civil than lobbing off someone's head, both can be equally messy...Just thinking out loud...

Yeah, don't get me wrong. There are lots of very smart Iranians and I had a fortune to meet many of them. They are all in political exile here in London, because mullahs kicked them out. But they just have a huge section of people who love being in stone age.

Well, it is a different culture Iran has been under economic sanction for quite a long time.
Look at how quickly we revert when the power, water, all our modern conveniences are disrupted.

That actually reminded me of the movie Z.

I see they have now trampled themselves to death over this monster. Health and safety in the middle East has a lot of catching up to do. Not a high viz in sight.

By the way Tucker is one of my heros.

I worked for two Iranians, Hamid and Targi who came to England in the 80's and set up Video shops across the city. They came for freedom and found it. I miss seeing Hamid very much, Targi's life was under threat is the last I heard about him. Shifty little Arab he was.

You are so right in them acting out for media consumption and what is on show is akin to behaviour remembered as our middle ages.

Sums it up perfectly...As @Sheltie said appeasing Iran was a big mistake, to me Obama just passed the buck with his attempt at it...

Tucker Carlson is a mixed bag for me. I will give him this. He has addressed the UFO situation without turning it into woo-woo like most TV announcers. There is nothing I dislike more than when the TV news brings up a UFO story and everyone starts to snicker and talk jokingly about little green men.
