Before I even Begin, Politics aren't my thing, Not really, I came to the conclusion a long time ago, That People Work and pay taxes, and their opinions on politics are just as valid as anyone else's So if someone wants to Hug a tree or burn a forest, We all share the same environment.

So, My thoughts on this are pretty invalid, It would be like if Suwden Or France wanted to be taken seriously as a military power, It's just not realistic to take my political views as anything other than whims.

But, To my understanding, The world is made to function in its entirety by a small handful of world leaders, Therefore when wars and conflict do arise, there should be a very small group of people to look toward if one wanted to place blame...

What I'm getting at is, Is peace just an idea? has there ever been world peace? Hasn't someone somewhere always been fighting?

So, Is peace truly possible or is it more like a fantastic concept that realistically, can never be achieved?

A general thought that probably doesn't fit in the Wars & Rumors of Wars thread.

We are dependent on Russian oil because, as Jen Psaki just pointed out, we are pursuing a green agenda.

Suppose what we have all been waiting for actually happens and this situation gives the impetus; the US Government throws open the doors to Hanger 18 and displays all the secret cool stuff we've got in the barn, including the alien spacecraft with revolutionary power systems. Limitless clean energy that we will make freely available to all concerned.

Considering the way we are wired, what would the most likely outcome of something like that? Despite the obvious benefit the world economy turns on traditional fuels right now.

When you take the time to think that through maybe you have the answer as to why 'observe and never publicly formally contact' has been a reasonable policy for ET.

No peace is not possible, because we descent from chimps, not bonobos.

You might be wandering what am I talking about and who are the bonobos. Bonobos primates and they look exactly like chimps, very hard to tell difference. Bonobos live in matriarchal society dominated by females. They are very friendly, relaxed and social animals that live in an small area near Kongo river in Africa. They are very non-aggressive animals.

In contrast chimps are real hunters, they would readily attack and eat other chimps and large groups of male chimps regularly patrol borders of their territory. In contrast with bonobos who never left that small area where they originated, chimps, in their constant territorial conquests, spread throughout all the jungles of Africa.

There you are. We descended from chimps, who are very territorial, so that's how we are wired.

If you just think, with all the technologies facilitating easy travel and communication accessible to almost everybody, like cars, planes, internet, media, huge movement of commodities and manufactured goods etc. national borders don't really make much sense and should had melted away. Yet we still maintain false idea of nations and national borders. That's directly because our DNA is wired like chimps' DNA.

Great example is "American nation". From European perspective, idea that you are nation is totally laughable. People who belong to 3 or 4 different races can not be a nation in European ( or for that matter African and Asian ) sense. In Europe a nation is genetically uniform group of people. Like in Poland 90% of people are of Polish descent. Same with France or Italy. Germany is a bit mixed, but still wast majority of people there are just Germans.

Human beings are prone to conflict by nature. This can be seen even in very small children, say 3 years old or so. But, interestingly, on a more macroscopic scale there have been periods of relative, regional peace. Internal conflicts yes, but no major wars in the respective regions. In each case, a hegemon, or dominant power, enforced it. From Wikipedia.

The following is a list of periods of regional peace, sorted by alphabetical order. The corresponding hegemon is stated in parenthesis.
In other words, there was peace in the region because if anyone got out of line, the local bully would kick their ass. lol

Evolution means survival of the fittest. Without conflict we wouldn't be here. Periods of relative peace means we can take a break once in a while then get back to killing each other later.

Would those regions be considered peaceful periods of time if they were looked at with more scrutiny?...For instance, with the United States, there have been times of peace on the world stage but what about domestically?...How many Americans were maimed or killed by other Americans during those times of peace on the world stage?...Could a region be considered peaceful if residents of that region are being killed in private and public spaces in that region even though they were not at war with other regions on the planet?...

It excludes internal (aka domestic) strife.

I'm sure there have been family groups and villages that have been peaceful for some period of time. Maybe even some larger entities. But uniform, long term peace for significant groups of humans may have never existed.

Interestingly, even some mythical golden ages were not 100% peaceful. The Hindu golden age is described as largely peaceful, but not completely. Atlantis is sometimes described has having internal conflicts, and even engaging in war. And very early on in the Biblical story, Cain slew Abel. - Seems like total peace for humans is virtually beyond imagination.

Peace is found only in solitude, but that may also be a problem if you are not at peace with yourself.

Man, I miss Solitude. Tate thinks there is something wrong with someone who prefers to be by themselves all the time.
    For me, that's an aspiration,...

I've found that large and by far people have expectations of us. True solitude is unattainable by many.
But I remember it clearly, All that time just to think and wonder... It was bliss... Havent felt that in a while.

Christian asceticism (I study a lot of history, including history of religion) began with hermits, specifically Paul of Thebes and Antony the Great. Eventually, this approach to asceticism was mostly supplanted by monasticism.

I won't say that religion has no influence on my views on people, But, I feel even for a Christian, There is just something wrong with me... I'm not saying it's like a serious handicap... But, Part of why my last marriage fell apart is, I had my man cave and never came out of it to spend time with her,...

To explain it fully would lead down a rabbit hole, I really don't know why I'm that way. But, Being around people, in In-person, Makes me feel like my freedoms and liberties are being obstructed because then I have to engage in conversations and activities with those people. when I would rather just be alone with my thoughts, I don't know if it's a form of PTSD. Or even some sort of mental illness. But, I truly don't like being around people in person.. It seems to be getting worse with age to boot... :(

I wonder sometimes, If I was alone, Entirely for months or even years, Would I then, Seek to spend time with people? I just don't know the answer, I feel in my heart, I could be by myself forever and never once feel alone,...

A lot of folks feel that way these days. Millennials interpersonal communication skills are also a complete change from Gen X and before. The over-connectedness afforded by our technologies has had unforeseen consequences; we don't seem mature enough as a species to deal with our own creations.

Yeah,, The Younger generation, It honestly pains me to speak to some of them, Have you noticed just how lazy most of them are? I mean They don't even seem to want to clean up after themselves. What's worse, that lazy attitude in the young seems to last well into their twenties. In my time, When you hit 18, you were grown, But These people, really aren't, you can tell when you speak to them, that it's a child in there... I don't know what's wrong with the younger generation, But I truly do fear for the future..

Back in my Day, There was this Ideology, "called Failure to launch" That's not even a concept with the newer generation, It's easier to just let mom and dad handle everything while they play video games. well into their 20's mind you..

One of her kids, the middle one, is 18, Hasn't finished high school, and just decided, He is 18 and doesn't want to finish high school. Nor does he have any desire for college. He says It's just a piece of paper, I don't need it. I told him, A license to drive is just a piece of paper too, But you damned well need it to drive...

I don't know man, These younger kids... Spoiled, Spoiled rotten...

Yeah, there is going to be peace, after WWIII :) Sad but true.

Its interesting how world manages to constantly maintain one large conflict and few smaller ones. Last 100 years there was no one year without a war going on somewhere.
