Zahi Hawass still amazes.

Tutankhamun tomb results - there are no results. (Please note all opinions are my own Jan Picton). The above ground scans are still promised but they are now three sets of scans down with inconclusive and contradictory results. The 'scientific' discussion got off to a poor start as the AV system didn't work and poor Dr Watanabe's video wouldn't play.
Zahi Hawass said he wasn't there to attack anyone - which was true as he attacked EVERYONE instead, except the current Minister. Still he was quite restrained for Zahi, but still very rude, referring to Nick as 'Reeves' and talking over the top of him.
He did say what we have all said: Nick proposed a theory and the media blew it up to become a fact. He also said that Carter would have spotted any evidence but there is no reason why he should. Carter had enough to deal with.
He challenged Nick's claim that the Amarna Royal Tombs Project had identified the presence of KV 63 long before Otto Schaden found it - yet I remember Nick telling us 15 years ago that he'd located something but they were prevented from working any further.
Good point from Zahi that all scans should be made available to the international archaeological community for study, while at the same time claiming that radar would never show the existence of a tomb. If Sarah Parcak can go down 30m with her satellite technology - why not?
He made a major attack on Dr Eldamaty, accusing him of something that he himself was frequently guilty of - acting first and then asking for MInistry permission - heated denial from Dr Eldamaty, and the correction of a few facts.
Impossible not to agree that a chamber should show far more clearly than a vague anomaly, especialy a cut doorway.
New International Committee proposed to plan a way forward. Nick remained heroically composed under questioning even though Christian Eckmann offered a fairly comprehensive dismantling of the theory of the mask belonging originally to Nefertiti. Nick then faced the most effective challenge on his interpretation of the iconography from three curators specialising in art-history: Dr Friedericke Seyfried, Berlin Neues Museum,Dr Gabi Pieke of Mannheim Museum, and Dr Regine Schultz of Hildesheim Museum, who challenged his identification of the Osiris figure as Nefertiti (Regine) and the conductor of the funerary service as Tutankhamun (Gabi), and the mask identity (Friederike). See the photo of these three wonderful role models for young museum curators, rigorous scholarship combined with total courtesy.

Today's session ended, and the conference rediscovered its proper role by pulling all the conference themes together ending with a 'road map' (hate that expression) for the next steps needed in the Tutankhamun redisplay project. THIRD interntional Tutankhamun Conference 6-8 May 2017. Themes: human remains, furniture, statuary, themes around public access and education, conservation and display of fragile objects. Put the date in your diary. Sorry to see the end of one of the friendliest, most intimate, and well organised conferences (today excepted).

I just ran in to this the other day. Not an idea I'd even considered but an interesting idea.

One thing if it is fake then why did Carter secretly break into the tomb and spend a lot of time covering up that fact ?
