This is interesting by my favorite popular physicist Michio Kaku - It is a long video on YouTube
{the whole program is 1.5 hours but you can just listen to some of it}

YouTube has a whole bunch of videos from Kaku's various radio programs such as 'Science Fantastic', almost all of them are interesting.

Kaku has an open mind for a scientist and entertains possibilities of aliens and UFOs
- though he still maintains that the 'smoking gun' {absolute proof} still remains to be found.

When they landed on the moon in 1969 they said "we will be on Mars in 30". Still waiting 49 years later ?

If you listen to the video posted, Kaku points out that certain private interests with money are now ready.

That makes all the difference in the World - Elon Musk can afford it and is planing on going
- wants to colonize the planet.

Failure to come up with the goods speaks of public apathy . They lost interest. Plus you had a very unpopular war to contend with didn't you, no doubt that also took the gloss off the spacefaring.

We probably did lose interest after we won the race.....we had the cold war to deal with. Yes the Vietnam war was still going on at that time.......we pulled out of the fighting right after the last Apollo mission.

Actually it was Australia's war too.

Sadly yes it was, over 500 Australian lives lost for nothing. But I still feel that the American public gave a strong message to stop goofing off on the moon and fix the problems at home, don't you think ?
