According to the Argentinian government all crew aboard the sub were lost. They were all killed during a blast at a depth of 600-3000 feet.

Families of servicemen lost in the missing San Juan submarine have been told their loved ones 'are all dead' after an explosion on the day the vessel disappeared, according to reports.

Family members today claimed they had already received phone calls from Navy officials telling them the entire crew had perished in a blast, believed to have taken place between 600 and 3,000 feet underneath the water.

Officially, Argentina's Navy is refusing to speculate on the fate of the sub's 44 crew members and have vowed to continue the search for the stricken vessel.

And they have angrily accused the Argentinian Navy of a cover up after they were today forced to confirm information that there had been a violent explosion in the area where the vessel would have been, just hours after its last transmission.

The noise 'consistent with an explosion' recorded by two separate international agencies last Wednesday morning.

Luiz Tagliapietro, the father of Damian who was on the submarine, claimed a Navy official phoned him to break the news that his son was dead.

It's a ruse

they haven't... Tell everyone you have but you've lost it; you don't have to prove you had one.:)

hmmmm but do they have more than one!?!:Sneaky:

Apparently they claim to have 3 subs, well 2 now, but why does Argentina need submarines, they aren't big hitters in the world, certainly not a super power...

Not a super power true......but both Brazil and Chile have submarines.....so its a power balance.

Also I don't think its a coincidence Argentina commissioned this submarine program after a British submarine sank their largest warship in the Falklands War.

Hell I didn't know Brazil has submarines, what do we have a silent arms race past our southern borders?...

I can see why they wanted a submarine after the Brits gave them their asses in a show of true power lol...

The Argentines had a submarine during the Falklands War with the UK April 2 to June 14th 1982. From Wiki. ARA Santa Fe A Balao class, GUPPY program submarine, formerly USS Catfish (SS-339). It was disabled by Aerospatiale AS.12 ASM (Air-to-Surface Missiles) fired from Westland Wasp HAS.Mk.1 helicopters from HMS Plymouth and HMS Endurance (Raised and scuttled by the British in 1985). (†1)

Well they probably were still learning to steer it and submerge it during that war lol, probably kept it out of the fighting as they probably would lose it in the war...

It said the UK sent 5 Nuclear submarines to deal with the Argentinians. They seem to have been out of their league.

I didn't read your link properly, Argentina did use the USS Catfish in the Falklands War but lost it to the British...lol

It was built in 1944 by the US and was decommissioned and sold to Argentina in 1971...

Those three countries had a bit of a battleship arms race 100 years ago.....as it also hasn't always been peaceful between them.
