This is more evidence of Shadow People. footsteps ,laughter and music are common. Do not fear them they mean you no harm.

So, are Shadow People spirits or entities themselves? Or, are they sort of the manifestation of memories and experiences which have happened in a particular location?

Shadow people are independent dark beings. Or a manifestation of memories. In the case of this house it is the Manifestation of memories. I do not think that based on the description of what is happening that this is a true haunting.

I had an experience once with what people call a shadow person, I could explain it in great detail because the experience lasted for about an hour and a half, I was 14, I had a habit of sneaking out of the house. Forgive the Drawing, I can actually draw a lot better than this, But for the Sake of posts and something like this, I figured something Quick would work.

So, I was watching Tv that night, I was 14, At this time, Old late shows like Johnny Carson were still on TV, I Thought my Dad was watching me trying to catch me sneaking out of the house, After a while, I forgot the figure was there. Later on, I noticed it again, Still assuming it was my dad I told it that it could go away now, I wasn't sneaking out that night. It gave no kind of answer, I eventually yelled at it and heard my father from another room in the house. I was frightened and I had two choices, I could jump out of a closed window and probably get cut on the glass and die, Or Rush at it and try to tackle it thinking Dad would come running when he heard the commotion.

I don't know why I could see it, Maybe it had something to do with the light glaring at an angle on it from the Tv? But, I rushed it, When I got right up on it, I could see it wasn't people, It was like a three-dimensional shadow, I could even see through it. Almost face to face, I yelled, What are you!! It was then that it realized I was addressing it. Like it was almost certain I couldn't see it or something. It took an alarmed stance and ran, As it ran it used open doorways, But disregarded furniture like the refrigerator like it wasn't even there, passing through those objects.

Till this day, I've never seen anything else like it, I still don't know what it was.
All I can say is, I got this feeling from it, Like it was scary or like it had ominous intentions, But, It never did harm me or my family, So I can't really say they are evil. More than anything else, It was just observing me, I don't really know why.

I have later in life came to think that maybe they are beings from another dimension or reality and the reason they look like shadows or ghosts is simply that their means of observing us simply won't allow them to physically manifest here. I honestly Still don't know what it was, or if my theory is even valid about them being from somewhere else. I honestly just know, I saw something that was see-through, could acknowledge that I was addressing it and it could display alarm, Overall, It's reactions and movements, seemed very human-like.

Thanks for sharing. Was that house known to be haunted?

I wrote this for another reason. It's long but might be applicable:

Right now we live in a 60’s vintage raised ranch. No self-respecting entity would be caught dead haunting such a place. The old house I grew up in really was old and much more worthy of haunting; built before the Civil War with lots of creaks and groans and creepy places. I arrived in 1964 and exactly why it was assumed that the ghost of "Dr.Weaver" was lurking on the third floor predates me. A family friend was Jamaican and she brought some interesting ideas on the topic into the house and my Mom sucked that stuff up like a sponge. I played with Ouija board and a pack of Tarot cards. And don’t recall a portal to Hell opening or anything, but you never know. A cousin has always proclaimed her psychic sensitivity and definitely added her opinions to the mix. I will say that later in life when she claimed to communicate with the dead based on the smells coming from a fragrant bush she passed on her dog walk I really couldn’t listen to that sort of thing from her anymore.

So here’s the thing. As a little kid I was literally sautéed in weird ideas and was always terrified of the third floor and the attic. I live nearby and still see the old place regularly. For years it sat sadly abandoned after a subsequent owner defaulted. One day I was passing by and heard the back door banging in the wind. Wide open. I just walked in and looked around and eventually found myself on the dreaded third floor. Even as a grown man on a bright sunny day I still felt uneasy, as if I was being watched and I made haste to get the hell out of there. I sort of felt the same way about Santa Claus at one time, but that’s another story. We moved away when I was a teenager and ever since I have had a recurring dream about that place. I would wake up literally screaming and thrashing covered in sweat at least a few times per year but never knew why. A girlfriend once asked me what my dream was just as it happened and I was able to tell her in detail – I don’t even think I was really awake. I rolled over and went back to sleep and she spent the next couple of hours with her hair standing on end.

I am sitting in the living room and something comes down the stairs towards me. It is small, looks sort of like a hunched shrouded figure and is black and white like a photographic negative. When it reaches out and touches me it’s cold and dead and that’s what wakes me up screaming. Crap!

I had that same dream several times per year right up until recently but found a way to stop it. Here’s how. I have been researching family history on Ancestry.com. I find it fascinating and it is a way to take some of the old family stories we all have and see what their origin is. Surprisingly there is more to some of them than I ever thought. Once night in 2014 I had the dream and typically woke up in a cold sweat screaming my head off. My wife was none too thrilled and I can’t blame her. Instead of just ignoring it I sat down at the computer and decided to figure out who the hell this Dr.Weaver really was and why he was being such a pain in my ass. In a few days of research I actually had my answer. He really was a medical doctor that lived in the house between 1900 and 1925. He was the company physician for the New York Central Railroad and at some point employees would go up to the house in Hyde Park, NY to see him for a physical or bloodletting or whatever. As the old family story goes he really did die suddenly. Turns out he developed an interest in infectious diseases and then -
wait for it - died of an infectious disease shortly thereafter. Go figure. His name was Fred and you can see from the picture he doesn’t seem particularly scary.

He expired in a local hospital, not in the house. If there were a ghost you might think Angela the housekeeper who actually lived on the third floor would be a more logical candidate. I even found a living descendant who is a retired psychiatrist. I contacted him and gave him a brief version of the story and this was his response: “
Thanks for the laugh. When we bury our people, believe you me, they stay buried.” Indeed they do.

Problem solved. Haven’t had that dream even once since then and quite honestly could probably take a comfortable nap in that old house knowing that the only thing watching me would be the squirrels that used to get in the attic. Thinking back I can’t remember one single thing that could be interpreted as a paranormal event; no apparitions, voices, nothing. Just the weird noises all house make, especially ones that old. The power of suggestion, especially as a little kid, is powerful indeed.

OK. Still a creepy old house that just might have something weird going on in there, just maybe not quite as the family thought.

    Love this stuff.

Very interesting and thanks for sharing. Good to see you at this forum by the way.

Your story brought to mind two stories I know.

The first is personal, just how creepy the basement of my Mom's house is. I went through a period some years after moving out of her house of having nightmares set in that basement. They didn't follow a pattern like the dreams you mention but were always centered around two rooms at the back of the basement that we used (and they still use) for storage.

The second story is the tale of 'Whispers Estate', a place in Mitchell, Indiana that fascinates me. They have a website. I visited once, years and years ago. It's one of those places where you can pay to chase ghosts. The place is genuinely unsettling but I can't say it's not just due to the idea of it being haunted. Anyway it was home of a doctor way back when and now there are all kinds of claims about him and ghosts that followed somehow from his practice being in the house.

I awoke at around 3 the other night like I usually do and before I closed my eyes I saw a figure stand up and walk across the room. They then passed straight through the door. That one freaked me out a little.

Oddly last night my neighbor - a loud, gruff plumber not even remotely given to paranormal topics - told me that he has been having a similar problem. Said his arms get ice cold and then something appears and passes through his bedroom. Happened a few times now. Thought he was asleep until his wife mentioned it. Don't know what to make of that or why he gratuitously brought it up but I believe he's got something going on over there, although who knows exactly what
