Mysterious Disappearance of the USS Cyclops

What happened to the Mary Celeste ?

It showed up in a BBC documentary.

Given the fact the sails were reefed or missing and the yawl (lifeboat) and maps and navigation instruments were missing- she probably foundered in a storm, the crew hastily abandoned ship - and then the lifeboat capsized while the Mary Celeste recovered.

Explains all the facts.

Could a ship have so much bad luck ?

s

some of the plane disappearences were, as for the boats.. meh

I remember reading the book "Bermuda Triangle" in the mid 1970s.

Yes some of the disappearances are allegedly paranormal.....and this conversation took all the mystery out of flight 19 for me. That one is no longer mysterious......just unexplained.

most of what we see about the mary celeste in media is actually from an work of fiction, the real one had its crew poisoned by gas in the ship

Huh???

You do know the crew weren't found?

If the crew was poisoned they would have been on the ship.

There was a theory that alcohol vapors might have detonated and scared the crew off... but if you thought the ship was going to explode... not sure you would grab the navigation tools.

None of the "gas" theories have been adequately demonstrated.

they knew that they were going to die, so they did mass suicide

The commander of flight 19 Lt. Taylor had seen combat in the Pacific but was transferred to Florida as a flight instructor. In the Pacific he wasn't a squadron commander so it explains to me why he always found the Hancock. However, he was in command of his training flight so I find it likely that any weaknesses he had that didn't come out when following someone affected him when he was leading people.

Its not uncommon that some pilots have problems in certain conditions do well in normal situations. I find it likely his problem with spatial disorientation affected his judgement and he lead his flight astray and the Atlantic took them.

Then you can't say they were poisoned.....especially since the lifeboat was missing. Like I said earlier it also wasn't in the triangle since it was abandoned near the Azores.
maybe some tried to escape but died in the way
also it obviously dint happen in the bermuda triangle

makes sense, most plane crashes have normal causes
