People in both of our countries are under the false impression that the news media still exists to report and inform the public on the important issues and stories, like they did back in the 60s and 70s. So they go to the BBC and the New York Times, and think they're being informed. But that's not how it works anymore: the news organizations/corporations are now the propaganda arm of the Deep State, akin to Pravda: their new role is to manufacture public consensus for endless mass murder operations abroad, and to bury the real stories that matter, like the Orwellian expansion of the surveillance state, and the complete coup of our governmental bodies by the billionaire/corporate class.
The key problem is the runaway economic inequality and the total coup of our governments by the very small but outlandishly wealthy plutocrat class. The feudal distribution of wealth has given the billionaires too much power: they now control everything from policy to the news media. And because most people are complacent and guileless, they don't even realize how bad it's become. They're not going to care until the entire economic system implodes and leaves their kids starving at the dinner table, and at that point it will be too late, and we'll have a choice to either rise up French Revolution style, or to accept our role as serfs in the neofeudal economic structure as global civilization slips back into the Dark Ages.
Either way, we're now poised for the worst geopolitical crisis since WWII, and my hope for a peaceful political revolution to solve the problem has all but vanished.
