Sixty-three Canadians and three Britons are among 177 people killed when Ukrainian Airlines Boeing 737 crashes in Tehran hours after Iranian attack on US missile bases

    Untitlegd.png

The Boeing 737 jet came down just three minutes after take-off from Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, sparking fresh alarm in the region just hours after Iran launched a missile attack on US bases in Iraq. There were no survivors, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said. Video footage tweeted by the BBC's Iran correspondent, Ali Hashem, appeared to show the plane already burning in the sky before it crashed in a massive explosion. It sparked speculation that the jet could have been shot down accidentally, with Middle East tensions spiralling after general Qassem Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike. However, the Ukrainian embassy in Tehran reported that the crash had been caused by an engine failure rather than terrorism or a missile attack.

The plane was only 2 years old and had recently been serviced. It apparently burst into flames and fell from the sky. Sounds to me like it was misidentified and shot down by panicky Iranian soldiers but we'll probably never know the truth.

There were also 2 earthquakes in Iran last night. Strange things are happening over there these days.

The Ukraine is sending specialists to determine if the plane was hit by a missile...

New footage 'shows moment passenger jet crashed in a fireball' near Tehran as Ukraine sends MISSILE specialists to inspect wreckage but Iran says plane had turned back due to a fault

The footage, taken from the front seat of a car, purports to show the Ukrainian passenger jet plane falling from the night sky before it crashes in a fireball near Tehran. The 28-second video appears to confirm that the Boeing 737 had caught fire in mid-air and was already ablaze when it dropped from 8,000 feet. Iran says the plane had suffered a technical fault and started to head back to Tehran (its flight path is shown top right), but the crew did not make a radio call to raise the alarm. An initial Iranian report described the crash as an 'accident', although the black boxes have been damaged and parts of their memory lost. Nonetheless, Ukrainian missile specialists have today been sent to the crash site (bottom right) to examine whether a Russian-made weapon could have brought down the jet in a shoot-down similar to MH17.

That's interesting. I wonder if that has to do with higher quality clothing being better insulators. I commonly wear a beanie most of the winter. The problem is if I take it off my head gets really cold because I'm accustomed to wearing it. They say you lose 90% of your body heat out of your head. David Wilcock said we've gained a tennis ball size volume to our cranium in the past 50-100 years. Maybe that's a factor.

Original Steve McQueen Bullitt Mustang sells for $3.4million at auction 46 years after owner's father bought it for just $3,500
    [IMG]

The sale at Mecum Kissimmee in Florida marks the most expensive Mustang ever sold, surpassing a 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake that sold last year for $2.2million. Owner Sean Kiernan, with his sister Kelly Cotton riding shotgun, drove the car across the auction block at Silver Spurs Arena and then addressed a crowd of about 25,000 before the bidding started. 'This car had sold twice in its life, it´s been in my family for 45 years. Each time it has sold, it was $3,500,' Kiernan said.

From superhero to cop! TV's 'Incredible Hulk' Lou Ferrigno, 68, will be sworn in as a sheriff's deputy in New Mexico less than 200 miles from the border
    • TV's 'Incredible Hulk' Lou Ferrigno is being recruited as a sheriff's deputy in New Mexico, less than 200 miles from the border
    • The professional body builder and former Mr. Universe, 68, is going to be sworn in Socorro County by Sheriff William Armijo this week
    • Armijo, whose jurisdiction is south of Albuquerque, said Ferrigno will play a crucial role in recruiting new deputies to work in the department
    • Ferrigno is best remembered from the 1970s television show 'The Incredible Hulk,' about a green, muscle-bound version of a sheepish scientist
    • Ferrigno, son of a New York police lieutenant, also previously served as a deputy in the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office in California in 2012
    • He also was a member of former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio's volunteer sheriff posse in 2016 where he helped patrol the US-Mexico border
    [IMG]

Ferrigno has made cameos in Marvel movies, including in the original 'Hulk' film from 2003 where he appears alongside Marvel characters creator Stan Lee. Lee and artist Jack Kirby are credited for coming up with the Hulk in 1962.

Nice guy, nice story; but I suspect he's receiving special treatment. He's extremely hard of hearing. I wouldn't think that a non-celebrity with his condition would be permitted to become a deputy. Perhaps he will be exclusively dedicated to recruiting officers, as alluded to above.

I use Hagerty classic car insurance and they provide a quarterly magazine that's actually very nice. Big write up on this, that the other car used in the movie was found in a Mexican junkyard, the story behind the car and McQueen's efforts to buy it. Now jis granddaughter is hawking a Bullitt Mustang for Ford. All very slick.

Jay Leno writes a column in that magazine and surprisingly, his take is that some things just aren't worth it. McQueen's crappy old sunglasses sold for a mortgage for God's sake. Same for this car. Limited demographic. I think if you just saw it sitting in a parking lot you'd see a hard used old car. Me too.

Personally, that Charger that was chasing it was much cooler anyway ......

Fisherman catches an enormous 350-pound Grouper in southwest Florida that scientists believe is 50 YEARS OLD

A 350-pound Warsaw Grouper (pictured) was caught off the coast in southwest Florida. FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute say the fish is 50-years-old and the oldest sample for their ageing program. The massive Grouper was caught by a fisherman in December 2019 using the hook and line method. Warsaw Grouper's are considered endangered species and researchers caution against targeting the fish.

ISIS leader dubbed ‘Jabba the Jihadi’ captured in Iraq
    [IMG]
He put the fat in fatwa.

A morbidly obese ISIS fanatic dubbed “Jabba the Jihadi” has been captured by Iraqi forces — who loaded him onto a flatbed truck because he couldn’t fit in a police car.

The 560-pound mufti Abu Abdul Bari, also known as Shifa al-Nima, was nabbed Thursday by an elite SWAT team of the Nineveh regiment in the city of Mosul, according to Stars and Stripes.

The jumbo jihadist was known for “provocative speeches against the security forces” and is considered one of the top leaders of “ISIS gangs,” Iraqi security officials said in a statement.

Bari issued religious decrees — or fatwas — ordering the execution of scholars and clerics who refused to pledge allegiance to ISIS when the terror group occupied the city, the statement said.

During the heyday of the group’s self-styled caliphate in 2014, he also ordered the destruction of a mosque built at the site believed to be the burial place of the biblical prophet Jonah, who once had a famous encounter with a whale.

Maajid Nawaz, founder of the London-based anti-extremism think Quilliam, also shared images of the heavyweight’s arrest.

“He was so overweight, maybe from remaining sedentary in his hiding place, that he had to be taken by police in the back of a pick up truck,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Most religious justifications provided to ISIS for enslaving, raping, torturing, ethnic cleansing & massacring Iraqis, Syrians & others are from this paltry beast who can’t even stand on his own two legs,” he wrote.

“Do not underestimate the psychological blow the image of this obese monster being arrested is to ISIS. Gluttony is frowned upon by jihadists. But also, ISIS branded themselves as fighters possessing rare courage & discipline… meanwhile this walrus was their top religious cleric.”

And in an ode to the epic space saga, he added: “Today was a good day for the Force & a bad day for evil.”

Macer Gifford, a British citizen who fought with a US-backed Kurdish militia in Syria, applauded the arrest and compared Bari to the slug-like gang lord of the Star Wars universe who lived on the desert planet Tatooine.

“I’m delighted to say that the Islamic State’s very own Jabba the Hutt has been captured in Mosul,” he said in a tweet.

“As long as the Devil bastes him properly Shifa al Nima should crisp nicely in hell… He literally looks like the world’s biggest chicken,” Gifford said.

Referring to Bari’s heft, he added: “Good luck hanging him Iraq.”
