The vet gave Cole carprofen for his arthritis and it is making a big difference. He is moving around more and seems alot happier, his appetite has even increased some. Hopefully I can keep him awhile longer.

Well, crap. Her knee is about done and she's hobbling. Left knee has a tear too and this is going nowhere good real quick so we have a call in to the vet to try and accelerate this process. Can't have both of them out at the same time.

Last week I made a set of steps for her so she can get on her day bed and crab out the window. She uses them and it helps take some strain off. The couch is lower but she needs help so I just knocked together this ramp. Scrap wood, scrap carpet, already had the spray adhesive left over from a car project. I have to carry her in and out to do her business.

When you start looking at pet ramps and steps and how much they cost you'll see why I went the DIY route. Mine have the added benefit of being built by me and they are very solid.

It's just clamped up while the glue dries. I sealed the cut edges with my cheap-o iron.

Today was supposed to be our cat Abby’s yearly checkup. She is not fond of entering her carrier. We try to block off all the ways she can escape. Unfortunately, she has hearing like Supergirl. She heard my wife get out the carrier and she managed to hide underneath the bed.

We could not get her out of there. The two of us could not roust her. My wife had to call the vet and cancel the cat’s appointment. I was none too happy trying to get the cat to move. We think we have a new better way to get her into the carrier this next time around. We will see!!

Accelerated indeed.

We got the two cats healthy again and we will take them both in tomorrow for teeth cleaning. Pie goes too and will get her radiographs - the vet understood the urgency.

Tomorrow will be an interesting evening, they always come back all stoned and loopy after anesthesia. I may as well make myself that way too ..

In a few minutes all three go to the vet. The cats get teeth cleaning and we expect that to be routine. Pie will get the radiographs today rather than next week. It's either bone cancer and the show's over or we have a ligament failure that can be repaired. If you notice extra posting today's it's like yesterday, just me nervous

She'll be OK it's not cancer Thank God !

This has yet to be confirmed by the radiologist but the vet said what they saw last time wasn't there this time and that it was some imaging artifact. She didn't even need to be sedated and they were very surprised she submitted to being manipulated so easily.

Every morning when I wake up and come out into the living room she'll plop down and want a belly rub. I give her 'the hood ornament' or 'the frog legs'. You can visualize that. She's used to that sort of thing :)

The radiologist and surgeon will both see these new images and once the 'no cancer' diagnosis is confirmed we'll get the knee fixed right away. When I take her out I slip a piece of an old sheet about the size of a towel under her belly and just hold it in my hand and take some of the weight of her rear legs. That'll be part of the therapy in recovery from the surgery.

Meanwhile, we got Moon Pusses. Poor Lou has only one canine remaining - I think his upper left. LouFang. They both had a couple of teeth pulled, a good cleaning and a nail cutting and at the moment slinking around all moony and out of it from the anesthesia.

This has been a long day. But, being home nervous meant I really demolished my to-do list while waiting.

Medicating cats is a next-level problem. Most dogs will snarf down what you give them instantly. Not all but most. But cats - cats are downright dangerous. They can rip you right up and usually want to.

The boys are on oral antibiotics - we just have to squirt a little liquid in their mouths. All 11 pounds of Frank turns into Death Machine if anyone other than my wife and I do it. He struggles but does not put his claws out.

Louie on the other hand at about 13 lbs is built like a tank - that is one solid puss that the vet techs are extremely leery of. He is loud when he's there ( we call him leather lungs Lou ) and it takes special weapons and tactics to do anything with him.

Except at home he reverts to the sweetest cat I have ever seen. I just scoop him up and he gets the squirt and purrs through the whole thing. Now that's a new one on me.

I once had a cat that had to take a pill every day. He never entirely quit fighting me, but I got skilled enough to where I could do it before he had a chance to unleash his death razors. My oldest dog takes carprofen every day no problem as long as it's wrapped in something tasty.

Back in the 90s I had to bathe my two cats with medicated shampoo. The 20 pounder just took it with hate and then quietly slunk off to go unload his smelly piss in my bed........

The little 7 pounder was like trying to change the chain on your chainsaw while it's at wide open throttle. I looked like I had a freak accident of some kind involving rosebushes. Falcon handling gloves would have been appropriate.

Thank God dealing with ringworm is now just a pill.

Poor old Cole is running on fumes these days. He is mostly blind and just lays around with little appetite. He is at least 14 but probably more. I'm hoping he clocks out on his own before we have to make that call to the vet, we shall see. Still, he has had a great life and I'm glad we were a part of it.

Hey gang, I could really use your prayers right now. I think Cole is ready to check out. He hasn't eaten or drank water today and is just resting quietly. I believe he is ready to shed his blind and arthritic body. I'm just sitting here with him. Thanks!

Rick, my good thoughts to you and your family. Dogs are a blessing. I hope your life with him was full of love, and I hope Cole had a great life with you.
