I made a post about a kitchen faucet being mislabeled over in This n' That.

A relative got a shelter dog for her 4 y/o girl. Named her 'Boggle'.

Problem is she doesn't know how to actually spell 'boggle' she spells it' Bogel'. We see that constantly in texts with pictures.

My brother and I grew up raised by our Polish grandparents and in our house 'bogel' was the toilet, the crapper, the john, what have you. I have no idea where that comes from other than eastern Eurpope somewhere way back when. We had an old steamer trunk that came from Bohemia, maybe there IDK.

No matter, my brother and I have been scratching our heads over that one but maybe it's an obscure reference.

Looks like the Brits call it a "Bog" (a latrine), I'll bet etymologically that Bogel also originally meant a hole in the ground; latrine. Why not Boggie? for the pooch?

Ooooofta.

At least the learning curve is, well it's actually zero this time around. So far so good.

I was able to use a body harness to get her down the five steps necessary this morning and then use it to get her to a nearby specific spot we've trained her to do her ... necessary. In this case an Austin Powers been-frozen-thirty-years-whizz. I created several of these easy access "poop loops" on one side of the house amongst a huge wall of trees that she will use more as she recovers.

Some food, some relief and we are all resting comfortably.

The anesthetic has her too wobbly to use the elevator but by tomorrow she'll be using it.

Zero learning curve this time. Absolute zero.

Approaching the day my dog died a year ago; this last year seemed to have gone by in an instant, like a dream. Your relationship with a dog is dependent on how capable you are of loving; dogs are capable of the highest love, and have evolved to be an integral part of your life. I feel that my dog is still a part of me, still with me. I couldn't / wouldn't get another dog. my dog will always be the most special part of my life, all else aside.

Pie is my third dog in this house, fourth one total.

We call her predecessors, two dogs and two cats, 'The 20th Century Kids'. Of them, my boy Max lived to 17. He was about 85lbs and actually was dangerous when he was younger, I got the hard case from the shelter. He developed into the sweetest, most gentle fellow there ever was that never even needed a leash. That was for show and to make other people comfortable, he stuck to me like glue. I could let him out back I the middle of the night and he'd come crashing back out of the woods like a brown bullet.

At the time my other sweet little GSD mix Molly needed a leash every single second. She was sweet but a buzzsaw of energy.

When I finally had to let him go it broke my heart. I had over a year of very intense daily care and I was just devastated, the days were very long and empty. I felt that was it for me and dogs but after a few months we started looking and the end result is Pie the Piedog. Best choice we ever made, we would've missed out on a lot.

If they lived as long as we do we wouldn't appreciate them as much. I am thankful for every single moment, even the rough ones like we're having now (although it takes time and hindsight to see that sometimes)

The elevator is working out beautifully. Her recently repaired leg has a lot of strength she lacked before - last time around we did this on two bad legs, now it's just one and easier. I've already got her out sniffing around in the woods with me in a body harness. Hopefully by next week we'll dispense with that.

This dog knows how to work the system ......

We said goodbye to our oldest cat Cadence yesterday. She had been declining and passed sometime in the last couple of days, I found her in a box in the garage. Cadence was at least 15, maybe even more. I buried her in the yard next to our dog Cole who died in June. I have dreams about deceased pets too. Friday night I had a dream in which Cadence ran up to me covered in mud, but quite energetic and healthy. I like to think that was her way of telling me she made it to the other side.

I now present Molly. My wife and I went to the cat shelter with one cat in mind. She was a white cat named Dottie. When we showed up Dottie didn’t give us the time of day. Most of the older cats ignored us. Two of the kittens seemed the most friendly. We really didn’t want a kitten but Molly loved to be held and sit in your lap. We chose her. My wife is more than pleased with our choice. Just one problem, she has the sharpest claws. Next stop, the vets office for a trim and an official visit.

Sleepless night, Kobi had a seizure, first one ever and it was a big one...We didn't think he was going to come out of it, rushed him to the animal hospital a couple hours ago...We're home now and he's resting, the hospital helped get him stable, once the uncontrollable movements stopped he was delirious...He didn't recognize my wife but knew who I was, he acted like he just woke up from surgery, he couldn't use his legs for a few minutes either...I'm taking him to his regular doctor first thing this morning, ugh...

Kobi had another seizure while we were at the vet office, they gave him a sedative and some pills for the seizure...Blood work was all clear except for the thyroid hormones which was very low and x-rays showed a large mass in his lungs...The doctor said it was cancer and he has days, weeks, or months to live, he said there was nothing he could do...

We are back home, he's doing fine but a little out of it because of the sedative...I'm not counting him out just yet, going to get a second opinion...I won't put him down anytime soon either, he's not suffering all that much besides these two seizures and the medication is supposed to keep that from happening...He's doesn't have a lot of difficulty breathing although there are a couple times recently I've noticed his breathing heavier when he was sleeping...We will watch him close and take care of him all we can...

After being in crisis mode a good portion of the day, things dialed down and we've had time to digest all of this...After more tests and a review of everything that happened we think he had a stroke which led to the seizures...His sight was gone for a brief time too, he almost bit my wife and growled at her during that time yesterday because of not recognizing her...I was the only one he recognized and allowed me to interact with him but there was a few moments last night during the worst of it that he didn't seem to recognize me...

His reactions to things today are diminished somewhat, he seems not to have a clear mind, not as alert...His legs are extremely weak and he favours one side and leans that way...His appetite is strong however, he gets very hungry...He doesn't walk in a straight line all the time and when he does he wobbles some, his legs are weaker now...

He won't let me out of his sight, I've taken the rest of the week off work, to stay at home for him...

I'm getting in contact tomorrow with two other veterinarians I've chosen to get 2nd and 3rd opinions on his lung cancer...They will run their own tests and come to their own conclusions and we will compare notes...

If the cancer is in a favorable part of the lungs it might be able to remove that section of lung and still have enough left to live fine...I want more opinions and options, it's possible this cancer caused the stroke according to what his original doctor said which I confirmed through extensive reading of that possibility...

Kobi is doing fine, he had a good day today, we spent the whole day with him too...I'll be building some ramps soon to make it easier for him to get in and out of the house and may just be building an elevator too, (@pigfarmer ) time will tell...
