Pilot Wave theory suggests Trumpet shaped Emdrive would have more thrust | NextBigFuture.com

Researchers José Croca and Paulo Castro from the Centre for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon in Portugal suggest that not only could pilot wave theory explain the mysterious behavior of the EM drive, it could help to make it even more powerful.
...
“We have seen that the effect could be enhanced using a different shape for the frustum,” said Castro. “In fact a trumpet exponential form is expected to increase the thrust.”

A point that isn't mentioned is that the Copenhagen (Schrödinger's box) and Everett (many worlds) quantum interpretations offer no insight into why EMDrive works.

A successful enhancement of EMDrive will toss the mainstream quantum scientists under the bus.

A theory that is inapplicable to the real world is worthless.

It is looking like the scientific consensus is wrong again.

Currently, the majority of physicists subscribe to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, which states that particles do not have defined locations until they are observed.

Copenhagen is a dumb theory. Just because we don't know where particles are doesn't mean they are lost or don't have a defined location. The Copenhagen interpretation is like saying if a tree falls in the forest, and there is no one to hear it, it doesn't make a sound. Everett is even worse.

Would be good to see a peer reviewed scientific article on both topics.

A POSSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR THE EM DRIVE BASED ON A PILOT WAVE THEORY

The mainstream quantum scientists (Copenhagen) have been in the "it doesn't work" camp since they can't explain it.

China launched a test article last year and claimed it worked in space. So the "it doesn't work" ship presumably has sailed.

The Impossible Propulsion Drive Is Heading to Space
A rival drive shape (same principle) is getting launched on a cubesat later this year as its propulsion system (they normally don't have one). If it stays in orbit over 6 months the debate is over.

Further, string theorists (extra dimensions) are EMDrive deniers because they say it violates Lorentz symmetry, which string theory is also built on.

I'll update the thread when a trumpet shaped EMDrive is tested.

Until that happens and the dust settles we won't get good articles on whose ox got gored.

Thanks...I'll read it as long as they don't use the term "mainstream" in the article.....and as long as they don't speak highly of the Beijing government.

China Is Getting Serious About Hypersonic Weapons
The Chinese are getting very good at technology. Their hypersonic technology appears to be on par with ours and they are developing a Mach 10 hypersonic weapon.

The average IQ in the capital province is 120+. The Chinese are smarter, on average, and there are more of them.

We should be very afraid of China and if we don't handle them well it could go south rather quickly.

I know.....then they have jumped ahead and advanced a lot since 1995......still don't trust Beijing.

Anybody in business has had to work with people they don't trust.

Doesn't mean you don't work with them.

Doesn't mean you trust them either.

Back to the original thread topic are there any EMDrive Deniers out there still???

Is it obvious to everyone that this is the drive for future spacecraft - and possibly interstellar?

It is a reactionless drive with no moving parts and thrust on par (or better) than ion drive.

X3 ion thruster achieves record 102 kilowatts of power and 5.4 newtons of thrust | NextBigFuture.com
Top of the line ion drive is 5.4 newtons from 102 kW.

EMdrive is almost in ion drive territory before design of a superconducting article which should give 100+ times more thrust. At the Chinese reported 0.720 N from 2.5 kW it is a lot more efficient.

It would seem in the near future we may be able to go to Mars quicker using this drive if it is proven to work reliably...

Why NASA Needs To Establish Martian Law

Future Mars colonists may want to form their own legal system. What would stop them?.

Last month, China claimed to have developed a “physics-defying EmDrive,” which would allow humans to journey to Mars in weeks. With or without this engine, it seems humans are on the inevitable trajectory to colonize Mars. It is therefore becoming as important to ask what laws will govern humans on Mars as it is to ask whether we could survive on the planet’s surface. Unexpectedly, this may be something that isolation experiments could help with.

Umm. You do know the first people to Mars will be private enterprise (Musk and Lockheed).

You do know that NASA doesn't own Mars?

Further, the first colonists will so contaminate the planet that the search for native life will probably be a futile endeavor?

And why wouldn't we want them to establish their own law?

Creative anarchy (Heinlein or Quantum Vibe) seems to be the best solution when everyone has a 120+ IQ.

Plus, on Mars messing with someones food, oxygen, or transport is a capital offense and that is pretty much best solved on the spot.

After all they used to hang horse thieves.

Since 90% of crime is recidivism, hanging them the first time keeps the crime rate low.

Soo. The higher the frequency the more powerful the photons are.

I sometimes think you do posts like this deliberately.

No, a boombox can't be used for propulsion.

A simple explanation of pilot wave theory (video).
NASA's EMDrive And The Quantum Theory Of Pilot Waves

And the Eagleworks Paper (Open Access):
EmDrive: Nasa Eagleworks peer-reviewed paper finally published by AIAA saying it works

And for the off the wall people:
EMDrive, Pilot Wave theory, Zero Point Energy, And Holography • r/conspiracy

A - NASA confirms(?) EmDrive - can pilot wave carry momentum?
Hilariously the physics forum has banned EMDrive discussions, since discussing real world physics would interfere with stuff they find interesting.

And to quote from the OP article:
Because the cone, or frustum, of the EM drive is asymmetrical, it would also generate an asymmetrical wave field. As a result, the walls of the EM drive would move towards the areas of higher intensity, creating thrust.

Most explanations leave the impression that the microwaves push off against something on "back" of the chamber.

What is really happening (as I understand it) is the back of the chamber is getting sucked forward and the front of the chamber sucks less.

As usual with my posts someone smarter (relative to me) is welcome to correct and/or elaborate since this isn't my area of expertise.

^^ Excellent..
So the drive workes by ' sucking ' .hmm Just like ships propellers then. They dont thrust the ship forward.. actually they provide a sucking ( no kidding ), which ofc the ships hang on to through the propeller shaft and *thrust* bearing ( funny name )

Really? Acoustic propulsion in outer space?

You are just baiting me aren't you?

Yeah, You got me there. Aint enough free atoms around out there to make acoustic propulsion work..

Im not fishing .. Just wanna read a paper that exactly verifies whats goin on.. The NASA boys dont seem sure themselves..
Pilot-wave .. Really ?

Great vid CB.

So what medium are the EM-Drives shuffeling around with their pilot-wave mechanics. Space-time itself ?
IF they are sucking onto *something*. Just what is this something ?

It is ripples in space time. When originally proposed by the French physicist Louis de Broglie in 1927 his view was that particles were particles, and the waves in space time gave them wavelike attributes.

Think of a speed boat going through the water. If you observe the water - it is a wave, if you observe the boat - it is a boat.

What actually makes the waves?...
