HISTORY’s upcoming new drama series ‘Project Blue Book’ is based on the true, top-secret investigations into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and related phenomena conducted by the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1969.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek, a brilliant yet underappreciated college professor, is recruited by the U.S. Air Force to spearhead a clandestine operation called Project Blue Book. Along with his partner, the debonair Air Force Captain Michael Quinn, he is summoned to investigate UFO sightings around the country and use science to discover what really happened. However, when some encounters cannot be explained away and cases remain open, Hynek begins to suspect that he has been duped by the government into a larger conspiracy to cover up the truth.

If the show runs more than one season I wonder how long it'll take to worm it's way into popular UFO culture and have people thinking it was a factual representation.

I'm looking forward to it. But I got burned by Paulides.
In the case of Blue Book, several people I respect who have seen some of the episodes give it high praise.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Don't mistake lack of talent for genius
Within the first 5 seconds I said to myself "Whew! Glad to see they aren't using any CGI." I give the first episode a 5 out of 10. Things I am overly critical of are the characters (like in most tv shows & movies) go overboard saluting each other & stiffening up. I don't think in my 5 years in the Navy I saluted as many times as these characters did in one episode. Plus 1) you don't salute indoors (which they do multiple times) and you never salute without your cover (hat) on, which they do multiple times. But over all I didn't think it was bad, but by no means was blown away as it being spectacular.

Seems OK to me, I'll keep watching.

If we're nitpicking I think those are Texan trainers - same as the ones mocked up for Tora Tora Tora.
F-51 Mustangs would have been the prop driven fighter of the era - Thomas Mantell, etc.
But they were single seaters and you wouldn't have had J Allen Hynek up and then down in one - that was a bit silly.

They do that in many movies, I'm not surprised and not going to complain about salutes...That sort of thing goes back decades in movies and tv...

If anyone is Up for some reading, I found this comprehensive catalog of 17oo sightings as cataloged by project blue book.

People wanna talk the talk, But do they actually want to read this? Well, If they do, here it is :)

Project Bluebook Comprehensive Catalog.pdf

You can download this at the top right, This is coming from my google drive, So I'm shocked it's allowing people to read it live, It can still be downloaded from the top right though.

It's like a 2 meg pdf file. The most fun way to read this I have found is just put it on your phone or tablet. Anyway, It's neat, But I don't know how genuine it is, When it comes to Top secret papers and such, how am I supposed to authenticate them? lol

the response to it seems mostly negative, and i have to agree with them, if you want to make a work of fiction that features real people and real events, you should try to stick to the facts
without any scifi nonsense or make real people different from what they were

that is the list of the blue book or unknows or cases where they couldn't find a explanation
ironically the case wich the first episode was based on, was explained, it was a balloon with a flamer (i am just making this name up, i have no idea what that thing is called) wich was illuminating the balloon making it look like a glowing sphere

On IMDB it has an 8.2 rating, which is pretty high. A large number of the reviews there are favorable as well. The biggest complaint is that there are too many commercials.

The Project Blue Book Facebook page also has mostly favorable comments. But I admit that's probably a biased audience.

Anyway, I liked it. I don't expect it to be factual.

To tell you the truth, the whole UFO subject for me is mostly entertainment. I'm sure I'd feel differently if I had been abducted or intimidated by Men in Black. But as I haven't, I don't take it too seriously.

On my ship we never wore hats indoors although down in the engineering sections we wore our working ball caps that had the ship logo and designation, even the Chief Engineer wore his ball cap lol...

My biggest problem with the show is that its pulling in too many directions . Its like the shows creators arent sure where to take it. As a retelling of historical events its too far removed from the events as they actually happened and as a (scifi)drama its too boring. Ill give it another chanse though

Men is Black, UFOs, conspiracy .... very attractive women. What's not to like?

There are many other things on we could be watching that are far less engaging. I never say 'yes' to the dress and lately I can feel myself getting dumber watching some of the home renovation and car shows.
