Do you think the professional reviewer stats are motivated by pressures from film studios and corporations and a certain level of bias or could it be their criteria is simply higher than that of regular folk?...

..
Maybe I'm naive, but I assume they are pretty independent.

Many of them have taken film and literature courses, so they they use specific artistic criteria in constructing their reviews. Also, there's a bias against judging films in accordance to what would make them popular. As a case in point, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences intended to establish a Popular Film category this year, but they received so much criticism from film critics and others that they nixed it.

I seem to agree with you on a lot of things but this I found rather dull and full of holes.

Project Blue Book and Gorman's 'fighter' got me thinking about this movie. Probably going to pop in Tora Tora Tora next. I guess for 1976 and no CGI it was good - you couldn't ask for a better cast. Not yet discovered Erik Estrada and Tom Selleck have cameos in this. I guess we're getting a new Midway movie this year and I hope it isn't another Pearl Harbor.

Citizen X is a surprisingly good HBO movie that tells the story of the efforts to capture the most prolific serial killer in the history of the Soviet Union, Andrei Chikatilo. It details the struggles of the lead detective in the face of bureaucratic interference of the Communist Party. It is one of the best true crime films I have ever seen. 10/10

Tora Tora Tora. Forgot how cool a movie it was.

Frank had not seen it and was quite upset. He tried to tell us the damned Japs were picked up on radar

I watch/played Bandersnatch. I’ve never watched Black Mirror before that, but am passingly aware of it.
I was big into the 1980s thing, old PC games, and choose your own adventure books(again 1980s), so I knew I had to check this out.
netflix-bandersnatch

I am NOT a big horror fan, but the whole bleak nostalgia thing got me to keep play/watching. When I saw a scene of the main character as a child with his parents I had a surge of emotion and decided that I would help him as much as I possibly could. Later, after this determination, I realized that the only way to ‘win’ or see the story through was to SPOILER ALERT
murder his father and become a psychotic murderer/genius game designer.
I was so steadfast in my efforts to refuse the main story, that I wound up on my one run through with the meta-Netflix ending (the character has a psychotic break and realizes he’s an actor on a set) and never even got close to the descent into madness and mutilation narrative which Bandersnatch is centered upon.

Yay me!

EDIT-I forgot to rate it.

I give it 3 bananas.

Slick and well paced with Claire Foy replacing Rapace as Salander. More Bourne than Dragon though and whilst I like Bourne, this was oddly uninvolving. Perhaps I am the wrong sex, perhaps it does for women what Bourne does for men.

Modern life gives us daily injustices and frustrations on many levels, a fact superhero movies play to, everybody likes a cathartic quick fix. But for me, what could have been a charismatic conspiracy intrigue represents more as cliché and ill temper. It suggests that society, by allowing the abuse and twisting of a talented person, ultimately gets repaid in spades.
The path to many a revolution I guess.

If you get the time, I recommend watching the first season of Black Mirror, it contains about 4 episodes or 5 I think, but many are very well written and acted out, and season two has a couple great ones at the beginning of the season...

I wasn’t intending to integrate Black Mirror, but I’m so obsessed with Bandersnatch that I’m going to have to.b0004

I watched Apocalypse Now along with deleted scenes that I never saw. I saw it in the theater when it originally came out and then saw the Redux version in the theater when it came out.

And with most movies being giant, CG crap fests - I found the Ritual to be a great horror movie. Watched it a few times & thought it was really good.
