    Well said.

I find it strange to say this because I wouldn't describe myself as spiritual and am not religious but the thought of no 'need for god' seems a bit unsettling. No matter how secular you are what you imagine might be beyond the edge of the campfire can still keep you up at night.

I always got the impression shadow people are one of George Noory's favorite topics.

That's one of the best ones here in the West. The young man met the pilot's sister and surviving comrades. They're all convinced it's him.

When you die, your gone. Yes, SOME of the impact of your existence lingers.
However, in a hundred years, no one will care who you are or what you did, and your impact is mitigated.

COSMIC energy may be recycled, and tiny particles of you may be re-formed into another lifeform... but, YOU wont be coming back. Nor do you go and sit on a cloud and play a harp...

Tell that to James Leininger/Huston. That one's not so easy to explain

Nihilism isn't concerned about particulars, they typically think all people come into this world for the same reasons and same purposes and all will die the same way...

If advanced technologist downloaded James' mind and recreate this coding in another human, then I SUPPOSE that would be a form of reincarnation-
James 4th as the case may be- IF aliens decided to make him a subject of that kind of experiment- Seems more likely than a spontaneous reincarnation.

    ?......

So.. nihilism suggests that everything is pointless.. But, there must be a point somewhere, otherwise why would these types of things happen?
    :)

    Maybe there is an afterlife.
I had an 'OBE' when young, and wondered, but see no scientific evidence of such.

But, MAYBE we, or some, ARE given a choice to move on to an afterlife or to come back if they feel they have something more to contribute? That might explain the occasional case like James the 4th.

I see little value in becoming a ghost, or a spirit. It just doesn't seem like it has much impact on anything.

IF it did... the world should be a much more awesome place due to all that wisdom that would be bestowed to us by our ancestors! :)

I only look at it one way: part of that dead pilot certainly seems to be part of that kid. No idea about the mechanism involved or the reasoning behind it.

My OBE's and other experiences cause me to know that we are more than the sum of our physical parts. There is no way we can know what those non-physical connections we have are, what purpose they serve, why we are experiencing being a human on planet earth or what is actually real about our non-physical experiences. There is no perspective as long as we inhabit a human body. All we can get are glimpses and very little context to glean any meaning.

The 'You', as in one of the many I's that exist in the confines of these human bodies throughout one's life, has no hope of continuing beyond death, many of these 'You's' live and die throughout one's lifetime before physical death, some are short-lived and pass away quickly without notice whilst others become more dominant and remain around until physical death...Some of these 'You's' may indeed dream of sitting on a cloud playing a harp, they do like to dream of immortality sometimes, however it's something they could never experience, they were never 'real' to begin with, when the human body dies, so do they, all of them...

There are no absolutes in death save the fact that at death the three-brained creature of flesh (humans) will cease to function and it will not function any longer, it is done, and all the many parts of that human body like the heart, lungs and brain will also cease to function as a result of that 'absolute', and all of the many 'You's' or 'I's' will also cease to function just like the lungs, heart, and brain...Reincarnation and Reoccurance are processes many seem to experience, the Dalai Lama for example has reincarnated for centuries, allegedly the same being...Reoccurance is a process which isn't discussed much, this involves reliving the same life again and again until the goals of that incarnation are met or one runs out of steam (so to speak)...Being born by the same parents, inhabiting the same body, starting out in life under the same conditions, attempting to gain something missed previous times or create a different outcome or some other goal...

Some do not experience either of these when they leave this world through death, there are reasons for this too, however this is something not everyone can follow through until the end and in that final breath, which is the most important moment to be aware and remember what must be done as there will be no time to consider options, there will be no time to dig out any notes in that final moment...We all come into this world for different reasons and we all leave this world in different ways but through the same and only absolute guarantee, the physical bodies of these three-brained creatures (humans) will at some point cease to function, it will die...

There is a soul/life force energy to all life.
They come from a source we are a long way from understanding, though many of the religious think they do.
    They can never cease.

    IMHO

Me and you, you and me.
I was good dare to be bettered
So to you who is me I wrote this letter
I had a life you do not live
You live the life I will not

    Succeed you can
    Or deal with me again
Not a dream you were there
As you and I are tethered

I've come to conclude my life is a daily soap opera currently in season 43. Every day is a new episode with a different script handed to me. I have no input on what happens in the script, I can only play it the best I can. Just like on television, I make good and bad choices and deal with the consequences. I sincerely hope that, when this one concludes, I will have impressed the audience enough to be invited to star in another one. I'm not entirely joking about this!

I know what you mean. I get it.

You think we have wiring to make us feel this way for some obscure evolutionary purpose?

Or is it like being in a tunnel under a river and sensing water pressure on the wall ?

I tend to look at the 'yous' and 'Is' as different facets of our personalities. I look back at old video and think 'I'm not that person anymore' but a detailed analysis would reveal the teeth and scars match so yeah, it's still me. The idea that there is more to our existence than what we see here is comforting but there is an awful lot of supposition in there, and as I've said that sort of thinking might be present for more mundane evolutionary reasons. Otherwise we'd be a species of complete sociopaths like our Neandertal cousins were supposed to be. And I hadn't noted any around to chat with about this.

Assuming there really is some hidden mechanism at work another comforting thought is that we are very special and our lives have been preplanned and we are here to learn and grow. Well, that certainly sounds nice and that's why it's on so many brochures. What would you say to James Leininger about that though? You know what that and all other 'remembrance of past life' cases says to me? It says that if you stop to think about it it's a system with billions of pieces that would have to have a tremendous amount of daily turnover. They used to point to the Saturn V rockets and Space Shuttles as they sat on the pads prior to launch and talk about the X million number of parts that all have to work perfectly and even an infinitesimal error rate still adds up to a notable number of bits that don't. Statistically a certain number just won't - unavoidable in such a complex system. I'm a little worried that Life-Death-Life cycle cases like James Leininger are the statistical error and they're just stuck in the damned pipe somehow. Maybe that's a lifetime of repairing things talking. Maybe ghosts are some residual from the process.

The other thought is that if we have lived umpteen previous lives then everything that makes up the current 'You' or 'I' if it really does survive bodily death is really only one piece of a more complex entity.

Guide others around you as they need direction.

Be honest about what you are feeling with sincere gratitude towards your feelings.

Put a foot solidly on the ground and state your position- setting limits where they need to be.

Contain your words of protective leadership with tones caring as if they are you.

Make them know you and by knowing you, they will acknowledge and respect you.

And the script around will change to suit your lead role. .
