We shouldn't be doing this. We have no idea what kind of civilization is on those planets, if there is one at all. I wouldn't take the risk sending them a message if they are nomadic and have the tech to travel here. We wouldn't win that war. Will Smith wouldn't save us. I also would not want to fight a civilization that is leaps and bounds ahead of us, and I would have to.

Any spacefaring race would have engines that produce zettawatts of power at virtually 100% efficiency using only superconductor cabling.
They could use suborbital bombardment by redirecting asteroids of about 1/2 km into the earth at perpendicular trajectories and speeds (relative) of 20 to 60 km/s.
That's a gigaton+ of energy that will punch through the atmosphere in a couple of seconds.
Aliens would destroy civilization by throwing rocks at it.

Thats how I deal with e mail. I created a inbox rule that deletes every incomming and puts it straight in the trash can..
Ppl who send me e mails havnt complained yet. And I am much happier than when I used to read them all..
