I suggest that Max Spiers had undiagnosed Cirrhosis, Cirrhosis is the severe scarring of the liver and poor liver function seen at the terminal stages of chronic liver disease. The mysterious black liquid could have been Cirrhosis. those grounds in the vomit look like coffee grounds, But they are actually blood clots, Caused by the liver shutting down and the body doing everything it can to expel blood toxins. in fact, This very seriously almost always fatal sickness is sometimes called Coffy ground vomitus. Coffee Ground Vomitus I only offer this as a possibility. I believe the poor man's liver shut down on him, It's indeed possible something else caused this premature death. But Liver failure isn't instant and it's not pretty. Just the fact that he vomited a black liquid is actually a sign of liver failure.
