could be a plastic bag without handles- might not even be a bag; just a bit of plastic, or a bag that's not made of plastic, without handles. Could be a bit of polystyrene OR it could be an alien spacecraft.............Questionable ,,

I personally lean heavily toward the 'Aerial Banner Advertisement Explanation'
As can be seen on this photograph , the tether length between the plane and banner can sometimes be quite long, and I believe that if this banner was placed on the op-photograph then the plane would be well out of the shot [as it is in the picture in question].And yes Nivek my old mucka, I agree that the witness statement contradicts that assumption, but after a little 'googling' of other sources of this story... I find the common denominator on all of the hits is the name of 'Scott C Waring', whom i'm sure you know is a well known pusher of ufological BS. ..

Can I call them collect ? I mean I am down by the South Pole no way am I ringing up a bill like that. I ring them here and they tell me what was in the vicinity at the time so there must be someone over there that can check. Anyway you can bet a plum pudding to a glass of gin they won't understand my accent anyways and hang up on me.

Preferred explanation is it is a cut and paste of something about credit card sized. At high zoom there is distortion around the object that isn't present anywhere else in the image.
The file has EXIF information and no camera information.
I tend to think the file was photoshopped and then scrubbed of extraneous metadata.
