The supermarket delis have been closed and there are large refrigerated cases where we get half pound packages of whatever we want. Seems very fresh and honestly, more convenient. When they figure out that they can do with a couple of less people - and they already have - at the counter this'll become the new norm.

The delis here in PA have been open but there was that ground beef recall from WalMart due to salmonella, I believe.

Dachshund Dubbed 'Moo' Sports Cow-Like Coat of Fur
    By Tim Binnall

A dog in Florida has become a viral sensation thanks to its jaw-dropping fur pattern which makes it looks like he possesses the head of a dachshund and the body of a dalmatian. The wild-looking canine reportedly belongs to Miami resident Victoria Hoffman, who says that the adorable animal's appearance frequently stops onlookers in their tracks when she takes him out for a walk. According to his proud owner, who dubbed the dog 'Moo' in honor of his cow-like look, people often suspect that the canine is wearing some kind of coat until she explains that his piebald fur is merely a wondrous quirk of nature.

"Moo doesn't just have a special coat, but a special personality as well," she gushed, "he has lots of attitude and is super cuddly and sweet as well." In a testament to how every dark cloud has a silver lining, Hoffman explained that she had always wanted a dachshund but wasn't able to get one until a few months ago when the coronavirus pandemic left her with enough downtime to devote to a new puppy. "It's true that blessings and joy can still come out of hard times," she mused about the unlikely turn of events. As one might imagine, Moo has become something of a star online, where cute animals are king and an Instagram account showcasing the dog in all his spotted glory has already amassed thousands of followers in just a few short weeks.

Australian Man Fends Off Venomous Snake While Driving

In a wild story out of Australia, a motorist was forced to fend off a venomous snake that appeared in his truck as he was speeding down the highway. According to a report from the Queensland Police, the incredible incident occurred last month as a driver identified only as 'Jimmy' was cruising down the road at approximately 76 miles per hour. The drive took took a terrifying turn when he noticed that an eastern brown snake, one of the world's deadliest species of venomous snakes, had somehow gotten into his vehicle and was lingering near his feet.

His attempts to stop the truck seemed to agitate the deadly animal and it began striking at the driver's seat. Amazingly, Jimmy continued driving the vehicle at a high rate of speed while simultaneously fighting off the snake with a seat belt and a knife. Eventually he managed to kill the creature, but by then he was convinced that it had likely bitten him during the chaotic tussle. Concerned that he had mere moments to live, Jimmy put the pedal to the metal and sped down the highway towards the nearest hospital.

Shortly thereafter, he was stopped by the highway patrol and, when asked why he was driving so fast, shared the harrowing story with the attending officer, who was initially incredulous until he saw the dead snake in the back of the truck. The cop subsequently called for an ambulance and medical personnel quickly arrived on the scene. Fortunately for the shaken driver, they determined that he had not been bitten by the creature and was only suffering from shock over what he had just experienced.

Video: Paranormal Investigation at 'Tiger King' Zoo Prompts Police Response

In a bizarre turn of events, the filming of a paranormal television program at the Oklahoma zoo made infamous by the Netflix series 'Tiger King' was put on hold over the weekend when police were called to investigate the possible detection of human remains. The confluence of strangeness reportedly began on Friday when the show 'Ghost Adventures' visited the notorious wildlife park in search of spirits. For reasons unexplained, part of the production included the enlisting of cadaver dogs, which is where things got weird.

According to Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullett, the two body-sniffing canines "hit on a small alligator pond that is no longer being used" and, understandably, this prompted a call to police. A team of investigators soon arrived and spent five hours searching the location. "We took our time and we looked around," Mullett told a local TV station, "looked in the pond and dug down." However, the only remains that cops were able to find were those of a small tailless animal.

Be that as it may, the current owner of the wildlife park isn't quite ready to dismiss the possibility that a body could be buried at the site. Jeff Lowe expressed doubt over the results of the search, theorizing that a storm which swept over the area could have had a hand in confusing the dogs when it came to narrowing down the precise spot where human remains may be buried at the zoo. As such, he plans to bring the canines back to the location at some point in the future when the ground has dried to see if they may hit on a different spot.

'Jesus' Spotted in Cut Tree Branch

    By Tim Binnall

Workers pruning trees in Brazil could not believe their eyes when they sliced off a branch and noticed that the trunk featured a marking which bore an uncanny resemblance to Jesus Christ. The astonishing discovery was reportedly made in the town of Itaquirai during a project in which an area of the community was being cleared for a new road. The job came to a sudden stop when one particular tree branch was being sliced off and the team noticed something peculiar about its trunk.

They initially thought that the odd mark looked like a butterfly, but the chainsaw broke before they could get a better look at the curious spot. Upon fixing their equipment, team leader Odimar Souza recalled, they resumed cutting and "that was when this piece of perfection appeared." Pictures of the proverbial 'holy wood' were subsequently posted online and, as if often the case with such potentially miraculous occurrences, the photos quickly went viral in the country.

As evidenced by Souza's description of the spot, some observers expressed the belief that the miraculous-looking marking was some kind of divine message. However, there were others who were more skeptical of the suggested spiritual nature of the find, with one person positing that it was simply a burn mark. For their part, local churches in the area have yet to weigh in on the remarkable tree branch and its exact whereabouts at this time are uncertain.

Mysterious Chicken Provides Comfort at Late Teen's Grave

Leading up to the one year anniversary of their son's death, a Minnesota family says that they have been comforted by the presence of a mysterious chicken which has inexplicably taken up residence at this grave over the last few weeks. The strangeness reportedly began about three weeks ago when Dan and Karen Miller noticed a red hen hanging around the grave site of their son Aiden, who passed away on July 22nd of last year at the age of sixteen. "We don't know where this thing came from," the young man's father said, "she just showed up one evening actually."

According to the family, the curious chicken has remained at the grave ever since that day. "It seems crazy," Dan marveled, "there's probably a thousand other stones in the cemetery, but it just refuses to leave this one." The bird has become such a constant presence at the spot that the Millers have even given it a name, Angel, and have taken to providing feed for the animal since it seems to have made a home at their son's final resting place.

"She's brought a lot more smiles than tears these past few weeks," Karen said, crediting the creature with providing some much-needed comfort as the anniversary of Aiden's death has approached and the family has been faced with another struggle in the form of a breast cancer diagnosis she received at around the same time that the animal first appeared. Noting that their son was particularly fond of the chickens that the family raised at their farm, his mother theorized that the bird may be some kind of message of support from their late son. “I've always said, I don't believe in coincidences,” she mused, “I think it's something bigger than that.”

Case of Belgian woman who thought she was a chicken linked to depression

The case of a Belgian woman who believed that she was a chicken has been cited by psychiatrists as an example of a potentially under-reported mental health disorder linked to depression. The 54-year-old woman, who had no history of drug or alcohol abuse, was found by her brother in her garden clucking and blowing her cheeks before crowing like a rooster.

On arrival at an accident and emergency ward, the woman had expressed her conviction and had spoken of feeling new sensations in her limbs. Following a seizure, the thoughts no longer plagued the woman and she was said to be embarrassed by the episode, of which her memory was impaired.

Researchers from KU Leuven, a university in the Flemish city, writing in the Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie medical journal suggest that such cases of zoanthropy, where a person believes they are an animal, have gone under-reported due to the difficulties patients face in explaining their thoughts.

There have been only 56 case descriptions in medical and historical literature in the period between 1850 to 2012. Patients have reported believing they are a dog, lion, tiger, hyena, shark, crocodile, frog, bovine, cat, goose, rhinoceros, rabbit, horse, snake, bird, wild boar, gerbil and a bee.

The woman cited by the researchers had been in a relationship for two decades and had a stable job in a pharmacy where she returned to work a year later. She had suffered from depression since the death of a family member and that condition was prevalent among her relatives.

The research paper links the condition generally to underlying psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, psychotic depression and bipolar mood disorder. Symptoms of zoanthropy typically range from one hour to several decades. The delusions are said to be more prevalent in rural and non-industrial areas. Where there are changes to the sensations in the patients’ limbs, the psychiatrists recommended brain imaging and a EEG scan.

The authors of the paper write that the condition is not yet fully understood. “Clinical zoanthropy, or the conviction of having turned into an animal, is a rare delusion,” they write. “There are different views about its pathogenesis. This delusion can occur with an underlying psychiatric disorder, but it can also be secondary to structural or functional disorders of the brain.”

Florida Man Buys a Porsche and 3 Rolexes With Fake Checks Printed From His Computer

No money? No problems—at least if you’re this Florida man. A Wewahitchka local reportedly bought a new Porsche with a homemade cashier’s check, but was arrested the following day when he pushed his luck trying to purchase three Rolexes.

Casey William Kelley, 42, walked into a car dealership in Destin, FL, on Tuesday, July 28, and treated himself to a white Porsche 911 Turbo using a fraudulent check written for just shy of $140,000, according to an arrest report from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. After Kelley drove off the lot, the dealership unsuccessfully tried to cash the check and then reported the vehicle as stolen.

The next day, Kelley attempted to purchase three Rolex watches from a jeweler in Miramar Beach with another bad check in the amount of $61,521. However, this time ‘round, the savvy jeweler kept the watches until they could determine if the check would cash.

Kelley was arrested on Wednesday, July 29, for the grand theft of a motor vehicle and uttering (using or passing) a false banknote. The following day, the jeweler determined the checks were indeed fake and reported to the crime to Walton County Sheriff’s Office, but Kelley was already in police custody.

When arrested, Kelley told investigators that he had printed out the phony cashier’s checks from his home computer rather than acquiring them from his bank. It’s just like a scene from Catch Me If You Can.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office says Kelley was transported and booked into the Walton County Jail without incident. Kelley is not alone in his brazen attempt to buy a high-end sports car. Last month, a fellow Florida man tried to purchase a new blue Lamborghini Huracán with funds he’d obtained under the federal Paycheck Protection Program. David T. Hines, a Miami-based entrepreneur, was arrested after he allegedly spent nearly $4 million of federal loans on the new Lambo and other luxury goods.

If nothing else, at least they have good taste.

Tourist Posing for Photo Breaks Statue at Italian Art Museum

Art aficionados in Italy are fuming following an unfortunate incident in which an Austrian tourist visiting one of country's museums wound up snapping the toes off of a 200-year-old statue while posing for a photo atop the piece. The bizarre case of inadvertent vandalism reportedly occurred at the Gipsoteca Museum in the community of Possagno last Friday afternoon when the unnamed individual was admiring a plaster model which had been used by artist Antonio Canova to create a marble sculpture titled 'Paolina Borghese Bonaparte as Venus Victrix.'

Apparently quite enamored with the work, the tourist made the ill-advised decision to climb onto the piece and pose for a photo with it. However, the weight of the somewhat stout museum patron was apparently too much for the plaster model to bear as three toes broke off of the foot of the woman depicted in the sculpture. In a somewhat amusing piece of security camera footage showing the incident, the man can be seen realizing what he had done, nervously walking around in front of the piece for a few seconds, and then making a hasty retreat from the scene.

According to a Facebook post from the museum, the damage to the statue was noticed by a guard shortly thereafter and an investigation was immediately launched to determine what had happened. Fortunately, due to rules brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, every patron who entered the facility that day had provided their name and contact information at the front desk, so locating the perpetrator proved to be rather easy. Working their way down the list, authorities eventually phoned a woman who, one guesses, had been anxiously awaiting such a call as she immediately began crying and revealed that her husband had broken the centuries-old piece of artwork.

It has yet to be determined what will become of the tourist now, although the head of the Antonio Canova Foundation expressed outrage over the incident. Calling for the man to be punished and forced to return to Austria, Vittorio Sgarbi declared that "the scarring of a Canova is unacceptable." Be that as it may, the decision on whether or not the man will face charges for the damage done to the piece is currently being mulled over by local authorities. Regardless of what they decide, it's probably a safe bet that the toe-breaking tourist will never be allowed to set foot in the museum again.

Nude man seen chasing down wild boar after it stole his laptop while he was sunbathing

A German man sunbathing in the nude at a lake in Berlin had his leisurely day thrown into a tailspin when a wild boar made off with his laptop.

According to an Instagram post by Adele Landauer, a woman who was at the Teufelssee lake where the incident occurred, a man was sunbathing naked when a boar and two baby boars came out of the forest in search of food.

Although Landauer, who explained Berliners “love to bathe in the sun and lake like we are born” and wrote there “were many people laying on their towels completely naked,” shared that many of the lake-goers were scared of the wild animals.

The boars “seemed to be peaceful,” she wrote in the post – until they apparently developed a taste for electronics.

As Landauer writes in her description, the boars first ate a pizza from a man’s backpack and then spotted a bright yellow bag, which the large boar scooped up and ran away with.

Once they began to run off, the man “realized it was the bag with his laptop” and made chase after the family, as the photos Landauer shared showed.

Fortunately, the chaotic – and hilarious – scene had a happy ending.

“Everyone of us adored him how focused he stayed and when he came back with his yellow bag in the hand we all clapped and congratulated him for his success,” the life coach captioned. “This happens when you’re focused on your goals.”

Hump day in Russia: Dozens of camels now terrorizing towns
By Paula Froelich August 8, 2020

Southwestern Russia is stuck in a hump daze.

A large group of deranged camels has been terrorizing local villagers in Russia’s Astrakhan region after a pensioner released them onto the surrounding steppe.

The 80-strong coven of camels have broken pipes, fences, vandalized gravestones and gardens and chased villagers in the towns of Oranzherei, Fyodorovka, and Ninovka for months since they were let loose by 83-year-old Yuri Serebryakov — with some residents now too scared to leave their homes.

Local district head Natalya Butuzova told TASS news agency (via the BBC) the camel invasion has terrified townspeople while Yelena Bakhtemyeva told Interfax news agency the camels have become “really aggressive” since giving birth in the spring.

“If you look one directly in the eyes, the animal chases you, and you have to run away,” Bakhtemyeva said.

Valentina Malikova from Fyodorovka told Rossiya 1 TV she has to keep guard over her pear trees at night lest they are eaten.

“[At first] there were about seven of them walking around, then those disappeared,” she said. “But now there are at least 57 here, and I don’t know when it will stop.”

Meanwhile, the RIA Novosti news agency reported instances of the camels vandalizing gravestones in local cemeteries.

Astrakhan Region prosecutor’s office confirmed that it had received a “collective appeal” from the residents, but said the information needed to be verified before any action could be taken.

Huge mackerel kills fisherman by leaping out of the ocean and hitting him in the chest in freak accident

A fisherman has died in a 'freak incident' after a 40lb mackerel launched itself into his boat and hit him in the chest. The 56-year-old, from the Northern Territory, was fishing with family and friends on the Darwin Harbour at Cullen Bay when tragedy struck about 4.30pm on Friday.

The group proceeded to make its way to Cullen Bay with the man still breathing, where they met up with police and paramedics who administered CPR. Despite their efforts, the man tragically passed away at the scene.

Local fisherman James Crane told ABC: 'From reports, it was like an 18kg (40lb) mackerel, so it would have been a big fish that speared right into this guy and caused major blunt [force] trauma.'

'This appears to be a freak incident which is hugely distressing for the people in the boat and other family and friends of the man,' NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services said in a statement on Saturday.

DMV Sends Tennessee Woman ID With Photo Of Empty Chair, Not Her Face

CENTERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Driver’s license photos aren’t always the best, but when a Tennessee woman received her new ID the picture was perfect — for a furniture store. Jade Dodd renewed her license online and received it last week, but to her surprise, the photo wasn’t a picture of her. It only showed an empty chair.

“The lady at the DMV did not really believe me when I was like ‘hey, I need my license fixed,’” Dodd said. “Then, she looked it up in the system and goes, ‘oh, I need my manager for this.’”

The chair ended up being the focal point of the license because it was the last photo taken and saved to Dodd’s file, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security told WKRN-TV. The photo was taken accidentally, the department said. Dodd said she wasn’t upset by the mistake. Instead, she said it lightened the mood amidst the coronavirus pandemic and provided her and her coworkers with a few laughs.

“My boss thinks it’s funnier than anyone,” Dodd added. “I was at work Friday and he pointed to a chair outside of his office door and was like, ‘I thought this was you, I waved at it this morning." She posted the photo to Facebook on Aug. 6 and as of Wednesday, it had been shared more than 19,000 times and turned into several memes. Dodd received her new license Monday — without the chair.
