1,000 Birds Flock Together in Fireplace Chimney at a Montecito Home

Birds of a feather flock together, but this flock took things too far and ended up in need of help from Southern California firefighters and animal services. Firefighters were called to a home in the Santa Barbara County community of Montecito Sunday night and found about 1,000 small birds trapped in the chimney, the Montecito Fire Protection District said in a social media post.

Firefighters and county animal services workers were hoping the birds, identified as swifts, would fly up and out the flue overnight. When authorities returned Monday morning, the birds were still trapped by the screen at the base of the fireplace.

It was time for some ingenuity.

Workers designed a chute system that funneled the birds out of the fireplace and through the home’s back doors. "Every day is different in the fire service," the department said in its post, which included video of the birds behind a fireplace screen.

Where's David Paulides when you need him? I need to tell him that people disappear mysteriously sometimes because they want to. If I ever do something like this I'll deliberately leave a cup of coffee and half eaten doughnut on the table next to a note with something mysterious scratched on it.

Woman missing since 2020 found living Utah canyon, eating grass

Woman missing since 2020 found living in tent in Utah canyon, eating moss and grass By Tamar Lapin May 4, 2021

Authorities discovered the 47-year-old woman's tent while searching for a drone that crashed.

A woman who went missing nearly six months ago was found living in a tent in a national forest in Utah, subsisting on a diet including grass and moss — after a drone that was searching for her crashed nearby, authorities said.

The 47-year-old, who wasn’t publicly identified, was discovered Sunday in a remote campground of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“This woman… had lost a significant amount of weight and was weak, but she was apparently also resourceful,” the statement said.

Authorities believe the woman voluntarily chose to move to Diamond Fork Canyon — and had been surviving on a small amount of food she brought with her, as well as grass and moss. She also had access to water from a nearby river.

The sheriff’s department first began searching for the woman in November 2020, after US Forest Service officials found her car abandoned at the campground.
Detectives gathered information “that suggested this woman might struggle with mental health challenges,” the department said.

Then on Sunday, officers returned to the Diamond Fork area with a drone to try to figure out if the woman was still around.

While searching for the downed drone, they came across a tent that looked abandoned — until, “the zipper of the tent opened and there was the woman,” the department said.

“We now believe she knowingly chose to remain in the area over the months since November 2020.”

Deputies took the hermit to a nearby hospital for a mental health evaluation, but said it was possible she would choose to return to the forest.

“We want to be clear that while many people might choose to not live in the circumstances and conditions this woman did, she did nothing against the law,” the department said.

Man allegedly swings colostomy bag at cops at Kid Rock’s bar in Nashville

By Joshua Rhett Miller May 5, 2021

They were struck in the line of doody.

A drunk man at Kid Rock’s bar in Tennessee literally lost his s–t on a pair of police officers, swinging his colostomy bag at them and whacking them with his feces.

Nicholas Adam Newhart, 39, was blocking an emergency exit door in an indoor area of Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk & Rock ‘N Roll Steakhouse in Nashville Saturday when the crappy situation unfolded, WSMV reported.

Security staffers told Newhart to leave, but he refused, prompting them to track down cops for help.

Newhart then allegedly took out his colostomy bag from inside his pants and began to swing it around wildly, hitting two officers with his excrement.

Cops said Newhart was so wasted at the time that he couldn’t stand steadily on his own, had bloodshot eyes and a strong smell of alcohol emanating from his body, according to the report.

He was arrested and later charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault of an officer-offensive contact, as well as public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He remained in custody Wednesday on $4,500 bond, online records show.

Newhart was only identified as John Doe in court documents

The revolting incident was detailed late Saturday on a Twitter account called Nashville Scanner, which tracks police and fire calls in the state’s capital.

“Unit needs a transport car at … drum roll, kid rock, and an ambulance, and a [sergeant],” the account tweeted. “Male took off his colostomy bag and started swinging it at others, some units have feces on them.”

The account claimed the incident marked the third time the man later identified as Newhart had been flagged to Nashville police in two days.

“Don’t think I’d want to be the transport car on this arrest,” Nashville Scanner tweeted. “Some officers may need to take a quick bath.”

Some Twitter users, meanwhile, couldn’t help poking fun at the nauseating report.

“If you don’t want to be exposed to sh-t, stay away from Kid Rock,” one reply read.

Newhart’s Facebook page indicates he’s from Wyandotte, Oklahoma. One post from 2015 shows a large Confederate flag tattoo on the back of his head. He also has the flag tattooed on his forearm, according to his profile photo.

Woman gashed in the head after turtle crashes through windshield

What the shell?!

A Florida woman was hospitalized after a turtle smashed through the windshield of her car and hit her in the head, according to a report. The 71-year-old was riding with her daughter on Interstate 95 Wednesday morning when the reptile came crashing in, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.

The daughter pulled over and got help from another motorist as she called the police. “There is a turtle in there,” the man can be overheard saying in a 911 recording obtained by the newspaper. “A turtle!” the daughter exclaimed. “An actual turtle?”

The gash in her mom’s forehead drew a lot of blood, but didn’t leave her seriously injured. Dispatchers told the daughter to apply pressure to the wound in order to stop the bleeding until an ambulance got there to take her mom to the hospital.

“I swear to God this lady has the worst luck of anything,” the daughter told the 911 operator as she tended to her mom.

Meanwhile, the turtle was OK, with only a few scratches on its shell, according to cops. The animal was likely crossing the interstate and got knocked into the air by another vehicle. Firefighters released it into the woods near the scene of the incident.

Lightning hits Florida highway and sends a chunk of asphalt through a truck’s windshield

A car ride in stormy weather turned terrifying Monday morning in Florida’s Panhandle.

According to the Walton County Fire Rescue’s Facebook post, a truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near DeFuniak Springs around 7:30 a.m., when lightning struck the highway — causing a chunk of asphalt from the road to fly into the windshield.

“Both occupants of the truck were transported with injuries to the hospital,” the post said. “Walton County Fire Rescue urges driver to be cautious and keep an eye out for any potential storm damage.”

A photo from the rain-slicked scene showed a huge hole in the Ford’s windshield as well as a completely shattered rear window. Orange paint covers the vehicle to mark the accident.

Girl merged in sidewalk.

It's actually NOT photoshopped!
Internet baffled by photo of girl seemingly stuck in sidewalk

Eventually, some astute viewers managed to decipher the illusion: The youngster is actually standing behind a low wall that’s made of the same material as the sidewalk. That makes it appear as if it’s part of the same pathway, when, in fact, the entire foreground is on a higher plane.

"Basically, the foreground is higher than where the girl is standing," tweeted one truth-seeker. "Makes sense, but it’s very tricky."

The illusion is enhanced by the placement of her elbow on the cobblestone barrier, which further makes the wall and the road seem like one and the same.

"Her elbow [is on] a wall which is the same(ish) colour as the pavement she’s standing on," tweeted one viewer.
