Any flotsam or jetsam is going to get pulled up into the wave, and there is often a lot floating along the shore.

Cincinnati man crashes car after cicada 'smacked' him in the face
Vincent Bingham was driving in Cincinnati Monday when a cicada got a little too close for comfort, causing him to crash his car into a utility pole.
"I was driving, and I’m guessing it was a cicada flew in and smacked me right in the face," Bingham told an officer at the scene of the crash in bodycam footage released by the Cincinnati Police Department.
Witnesses of the crash told the responding officer that Bingham wasn't swerving or speeding until he randomly jerked the wheel, causing him to total his car.

Discovery of Mysterious Stones Sets Off 'Diamond Rush' in South Africa

A village in South Africa has become the site of a veritable 'diamond rush' as thousands of people have descended upon the location following the discovery of mysterious crystal-like stones that many are hoping could be precious gems. The excitement reportedly began last week in the community of KwaHlathi when a cattle herder plucked some of the curious objects from the ground. As word of his discovery spread, other residents began digging at the site and they also found the potential diamonds in the dirt, which set off a full-blown frenzy in the region. Not long after that, a massive throng of people journeyed to the village armed with shovels, pickaxes, and dreams of striking it rich.

Although authorities have cautioned that the stones are probably not diamonds, their words of warning have done little to quell the commotion nor lower the expectations of those who have flocked to the field in search of buried treasure. "They are real," declared one woman who recovered some of the rocks, "I'm going to buy a car, a house, send my kids to private school." The hysteria is undoubtedly amplified by the fact that many in South Africa are suffering under severe financial hardship which makes the prospect of unearthing diamonds something of a miraculous possibility to those who have been digging in the field. To that end, another individual looking for the stones mused "we are poor, we are unemployed, but this could change everything."

In an effort to determine the nature of the rocks removed from the field and, no doubt, put an end to the tumult, the South African government has dispatched a team of experts to the village to examine the stones. One potentially dispiriting development from the forthcoming analysis, which has already been suggested by scientists, is that it will likely reveal that, rather than diamonds, the objects are actually just quartz deposits, which are far less valuable and, sadly, will not provide the financial salvation that the treasure hunters hoped that they had found.

After being handcuffed together for 123 days to save their relationship, a Ukrainian couple breaks up

A Ukrainian couple was handcuffed together for 123 days as a last-ditch effort to save their relationship. It didn't work. In May, bolt cutters were brought out, their handcuffs were cut, and Alexandr Kudlay and Viktoria Pustovitova officially split, Reuters reports.

The couple's final breakup was aired on national television in Ukraine. "Hooray," shouted Pustovitova, 29, New York Post reports when the handcuffs were removed. "I am finally free."

According to Reuters, the couple from the eastern city of Kharkiv had a cycle of breaking up and getting back together.

Kudlay, 33, came up with the handcuff idea. On Valentine's Day, they officially started the experiment. "I decided it will be an interesting experience for me," Pustovitova told Reuters back in February.

In the three months the couple was handcuffed, they did everything together and documented the journey on Instagram. They showered together, took cigarette breaks together, and took turns using the bathroom.

The couple also worked together, which ultimately lead Pustovitova to quit her job as a beautician. As New York Post reports, clients weren't comfortable with Kudlay present at appointments.

Instead of bonding them together, the experience ultimately tore them apart, Reuters reports. The couple argued more often and longer, with arguments supposedly lasting four hours, according to The Daily Mirror.

The couple decided they weren't compatible, and on May 19 they decided to end their relationship by breaking off the handcuffs. "We are not on the same wavelength," Kudlay told Reuters. "We are totally different."

While Kudlay and Pustovitova do not have the title of boyfriend and girlfriend anymore, they did earn the world record for the most time a couple has ever spent chained together, a representative from a Ukrainian record book told the couple via Reuters.

To honor the achievement, the handcuff-breaking ceremony was broadcast on national television in front of the country's Unity monument.

Today, both Kudlay and Pustovitova are single and living in different regions of Ukraine, according to the New York Post.

As Reuters reports, they plan to auction off the handcuffs and donate part of the money to charity. "I think it will be a good lesson for us, for other Ukrainian couples, and couples abroad not to repeat what we have done," Pustovitova told Reuters.

Yeah, well.... it's f*****g Home Depot. Pinch me, I'm surprised.

In reality they probably went there because they expected the first person they saw in an orange apron to tell them HOW to do the exorcism and then give them the stuff they need to do it with while they argue the very details of which they had no understanding in the first place.

Pennsylvania police claim they were called to a Home Depot on a report of “disorderly people having an exorcism” in the lumber aisle.

The exorcism was for the dead trees and the would-be wood exorcists were escorted out of the building, according to a now-viral post from the Dickson City Police Department.

The incident was described in only 27 words, part of a long list of the small-town department’s daily log of calls – but the post has drawn attention due its bizarre quality and had been shared more than 550 times as of Thursday.

The so-called “exorcism,” which was said to have taken place Monday at 3:26 p.m., had commenters on the PD’s page confused.

One suggested maybe it should have said “having an exercise.”

“Dang autocrrect,” the commenter said.

“THE POWER DRILL OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU,” wrote another.

“How does a wood exorcism happen in 2021 and not a single person in Home Depot videoed this for our entertainment. I need answers,” one commenter said.

There were two people who took part in the exorcism, or whatever it was – and neither was charged, WTSP reported.

I hope the exorcists got it done before the police arrived. It'll be horrific if a bunch of dead trees start walking around and falling on people. :feelweird:

Police break up exorcism at Pa. Home Depot
Police in Lackawanna County broke up an exorcism in the lumber aisle of a home-improvement store Monday.

Details are scarce on just what was going on inside the Home Depot on Commerce Drive in Dickson City Monday afternoon, but police were called around 3:26 p.m. to escort several people out of the store for “bad behavior,” WBRE/WYOU is reporting.

According to reports, the exorcism was held for the trees that had been turned into lumber.

The police blotter item posted on the Dickson City police Facebook page gave few clues as to what happened, simply saying:

“3:26pm Commerce Blvd. @ Home Depot for disorderly people having an exorcism in the lumber aisle for the dead trees. They were escorted out of the building.”

Close to 200 comments on the post begged for more details.

There is no indication the incident had anything to do with the price of lumber.

According to reports, no charges have been filed at this time.

Unsealed Warrant Reveals New Details on Suspicious FBI Dig for Civil War Gold

New details have emerged regarding a suspicious FBI search for a legendary lost cache of Civil War-era gold believed to have been buried in a Pennsylvania state forest. The curious dig unfolded in March of 2018 when federal agents descended upon the site under a shroud of secrecy. Based on the location, it was apparent that they were looking for a horde of Union gold bars said to have vanished from a train during the Civil War and subsequently hidden in Pennsylvania. After a few days, the agency left the location seemingly empty-handed, although the treasure hunters who led them to the spot do not believe that was really the case and a contentious legal battle has been unfolding ever since with some fascinating new insights into the case being revealed this week.

An unsealed 2018 application for a seizure warrant reportedly filed by the FBI prior to the dig sheds new light on the agency's justification for the endeavor as well as their concerns regarding a veritable turf war with the state of Pennsylvania over the gold. In the document, an agent with the bureau's art crime division confidently declared that "I have probable cause to believe that a significant cache of gold is secreted away in the underground cave located at Dents Run," which is the area in the Pennsylvania state forest suspected of being the hiding spot for the treasure. The warrant request goes on to state that treasure hunters Dennis and Kem Parada had consulted on the investigation.

Additionally, the agent states that the FBI had enlisted the help of a private contractor who conducted a scan of the spot where the treasure is thought to be hidden and detected a sizeable and rather dense mass that seemed to correlate with nine tons of gold. Perhaps the most telling portion of the seizure request is that the FBI was concerned that, without the intervention of a federal judge, the state of Pennsylvania might swoop in and take the treasure by claiming that it was actually considered abandoned property. Since the dig went ahead as planned, one presumes that the bureau made a compelling enough case to be allowed to proceed.

However, a lawyer for the father-and-son treasure hunting duo that led the FBI to the spot where the gold was thought to be hidden notes that there is no paperwork filed by the bureau that definitively states that they never recovered any treasure. As such, the pair believe that not only did the long-lost horde wind up being unearthed but that they were subsequently squeezed out of receiving any compensation nor any credit for their, what they contend was, successful work in tracking the treasure down. And so while it would seem that the basis for their claim remains viable, the ultimate question of whether or not the FBI really did recover the gold continues to elude the treasure hunters and will likely also keep winding its way through court.
