Neil Young takes aim at Spotify's CEO and tells employees there to leave their jobs

Neil Young has slammed Spotify's CEO and urged the tech company's employees to quit their jobs in protest against Covid-19 misinformation.

The singer-songwriter, 76, took aim at the streaming platform's boss Daniel Ek in the bitter feud over podcaster Joe Rogan, who has courted controversy with his views on Covid vaccines and his use of racial slurs.

Young's music was removed from Spotify on January 26 after he refused to share the platform with Joe Rogan, who he claims spreads misinformation about Covid-19 on his top-rated Spotify podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.

The move prompted Joni Mitchell and other artists to follow suit and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to 'express concerns' about its content.

Now in a new salvo, Young has continued his war of words in a statement on his website, saying: 'In our communication age, misinformation is the problem. Ditch the misinformers.

'I say Daniel Ek is your big problem - not Joe Rogan. Get out of that place before it eats up your soul.'

Yeah. Quit your job in protest. Easy for Neil to say. Most of us mere mortals have bills to pay, family to feed.

Quit your job in protest

Been on two nasty strikes where I was on a picket line. One coworker was rabidly militant and was ready to go full blown nuclear at any moment - took it to the extreme and was ready to walk out and take as many people with him as he could out of pure spite. A real piece of work.

I later found out that the man is - not so secretly anymore - a goddamned multimillionaire. Feel free to take a stand, you don't have a mortgage.

Very much like business as usual, eh? Our top leadership sits behind secure walls dictating morality and minute aspects of our daily behavior while perched upon a pile of $$ that came from anything other than the hard work and perseverance of the mere mortal worker that they pay lip service to.

Czech millionaire investigated over alleged 417km/h motorway drive in Germany

Germany is famous for having no speed limits on stretches of its motorways, but a Czech millionaire appearing to do 417km/h (260 mph) may have been testing the limit of what's tolerable.

Radim Passer is now being investigated for his apparent drive along a motorway in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The prosecutor's office in Stendal said it had launched a probe into the potentially illegal incident.

The driver faces a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine, reports say.

The wealthy sports car owner from the Czech Republic posted videos of last summer's apparent drive in a Bugatti Chiron on the A2 between Berlin and Hanover on YouTube, bringing attention to the incident.

In the videos, the car's speedometer appears to display a speed of up to 417km/h.

In written comments beneath the video, Mr Passer says: "There was visibility along the whole stretch. Safety was a priority, so the circumstances had to be safe to go." He adds that the drive took place at 04:50 on a Sunday morning and there had been an earlier drive-through of the stretch of motorway.

Police launched an investigation after the alleged breach was reported in German media.

According to the criminal code, a solo drive can still constitute an offence if the driver "moves at an inappropriate speed and in a manner that grossly violates the traffic code and is reckless", reports say.

Transport Minister Volker Wissing has condemned the driver's attitude, noting that while there is no speed limit in Germany, the car should always be "under control", the AFP news agency quotes him as saying.

The weird and wonderful world of breeding sea stars

It takes a bit of work to get brittlestars in the mood to procreate in captivity. They need to be well-fed, in total darkness and convinced the world is ending.

"It's like a war of attrition," says Augie Davis, a senior honors student at William & Mary. Davis had just finished pedaling a pushcart loaded with little bowls of brittlestars around the second floor of William & Mary's Integrated Science Center. "After we take them for a few laps, we flip them upside down in their bowls, but they flip themselves back over, so we have to flip them upside down again and shut the lights off on them. It's scientific, but there's also some voodoo involved."

Every year around Valentine's Day, the lab run by W&M biologist Jon Allen plays starfish matchmaker by mimicking nature in clever ways to study the animals' incredible lifecycle.

We have been experiencing weird weather here in South Central Pennsylvania. We had a day of 50 degree weather followed by snow the next day. It’s all melted now but still in the 30s. I checked the forecast for the next week or so. The temperatures will be yo-yoing up and down. Almost 60 and rain then dipping down to the 30s. Which of you is screwing around with the temps?

Google Maps users make horror 'depressing' discovery in depths of Russia

Google Maps users make horrifying discovery in depths of Russia – as it’s branded it the ‘most depressing place ever’
Fiona Connor 7:01 ET, Feb 14 2022 Updated: 9:07 ET, Feb 14 2022

INTERNET sleuths have made a horrifying discovery in the depths of Russia that they've labelled the "most depressing place ever".

An eerie indentation on Google maps marks the spot of a former Gulag correctional labour camp in Krasnoyarsk Krai.

Found at 69°24'19°N 87°38'57°E, images show the hollowed ground where deconstructed buildings lie in piles of grey rubble.

An eagle-eyed online detective made the connection after seeing the ghostly image on Reddit.

They wrote: "It is indeed the Norillag labour camp.

"You can even see the mining facility connected to the camp further west. Good catch OP [original poster]!"

One person who recognised the history behind the horror site commented on a photo of a nearby street east of the Gulag.

They wrote: "That's one of the most depressing places I've ever seen."

Norillag, the Norilsk Corrective Labour Camp, was one of Russia's abysmal Gulags, where prisoners were made to build the complex and dig for copper and nickel.

Eventually, workers were hauled into other activities which underpinned the economic function of the area, such as fishing and reconstructing the home where Stalin lived in exile.

It operated from June 25, 1935 to August 22, 1956 with estimates more than 400,000 inmates worked there throughout its history - 300,000 of them political prisoners.

Norillag began with just 1,200 inmates but amid Stalin's push to identify and divide any nonconformists during the Great Purge, numbers grew increasingly high.

The forced-labour camps were set up by the order of Vladimir Lenin before reaching their peak once Joseph Stalin took power until the early 1950s.

It is believed the Gulag system had more than 30,000 camps with more than three percent of the Soviet population imprisioned or in internal exile.

Thousands perished in inhumane conditions in the notorious Gulag system.

After Stalin's death in 1953, prisoners revolted against the Gulag across 69 days which led to more than 1,000 deaths.

It was abolished in 1957 when most of the Gulag system was done away with.

Only some stuff.
Although his complete catalog list isn't available on the streaming website, Wonderwall notes that Young's music from "soundtracks or other events that featured him but were released by other entities" are still on his page. For example, the outlet notes that his "Heart of Gold" song is there due to the "Eat, Pray, Love" soundtrack.
