These aren’t cephalopods … they really ARE aliens!

We know octopuses are unusual creatures of the deep. We know they’re intelligent. In fact, after the first octopus genome was sequenced, some wondered if it was an alien species living on Earth. Now scientists have discovered something else impressive about Octopus tetricus – some aren’t loners but actually live in groups in dens that look an awful lot like small human cities.

“Behavior at this second site confirms that complex social interactions also occur in association with natural substrate, and suggest that social interactions are more wide spread among octopuses than previously recognized.”

At Peace.
Very cool. I like to see octopus when I scuba dive.
Usually only on a night dive...
They are the most amazing creatures on the planet IHMO.

Smart, and funny too...

The Greeks here love to eat them . I saw them 'washing' the octopus on the rocks all this white foam was coming out of it . I asked them why were they doing it and they said you got to do that before eating them.

Their intelligence they say is above a dogs.

An odd comparison since octopus have been compared to cats most often, and believe me a cat is at least as intelligent as a dog. I wonder how instincts rule their lives. It's the rule of instincts over free will that really determines the degree of freedom to develop intelligence, and after that then come life spans. I don't think octopus live very long, a year or two I think, so that they are considered highly intelligent makes me wonder about the degree of instinctual rules over their daily lives.

They are quite the delicacy in the far east......they used them as garnishes on my inflight meal.

Did you know it's against the law to perform surgery on an octopus without an anesthetic due to how intelligent they are?

It isn't surgery.

1. The OP article didn't have many pictures of the "Strange Octopus City"

2. There were no pictures of a "normal octopus city" to compare it to.
Well, I thought it was strange to think that Octopusses socializing would be a strange thing. It would seem that a lot of ocean life congregates with itself. But I'm no oceanographer.

They are very good at problem solving and making premonitions about football grand finals.
