Tarot Reading

There is no doubt in my mind that everyone has psychic abilities. The real problem comes with interpreting the information we receive.

In 2005 there was a murder case here attracting national attention. A college student named Taylor Behl had disappeared in the Richmond area. One night I pulled up her picture on my computer and just stared at it for a long time. That night, just as I was drifting off to sleep, I kept seeing images of an old weathered wooden wall with peeling paint. I interpreted the image to be that of a beach cottage so I came the the conclusion that she had run away to the beach where she was probably secretly hanging out with some of her friends.

A few days later her body was found in a ditch near an old barn. The wooden wall of the barn looked exactly like the images I had seen that night.

The professional psychics have honed their interpretation skills. Their fundamental abilities, however, are not significantly greater than ours.

I was googling up Ingo Swann, SRI and all that as a refresher. I first heard about this through John B Alexander - dunno if it was an interview, book, article. But the descriptions of the tests performed on Swann - with objects on a shelf above him with characters that can only be seen from a certain p.o.v sounds an awful lot like the NDE verification tests I've read about.

A bit off-putting to equate near death experience with intentional out of body experiences. The idea of a skill developed to do something deliberately that maybe we can all do naturally (but are unaware of it) is very interesting.

How To Fly
© by Douglas Adams

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. Pick a nice day, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] suggests, and try it.

The first part is easy. All it requires is simply the ability to throw yourself forward with all your weight, and the willingness not to mind that it's going to hurt.

That is, it's going to hurt if you fail to miss the ground. Most people fail to miss the ground, and if they are really trying properly, the likelihood is that they will fail to miss it fairly hard.

Clearly, it is the second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties.

One problem is that you have to miss the ground accidentally. It's no good deliberately intending to miss the ground because you won't. You have to have your attention suddenly distracted by something else when you're halfway there, so that you are no longer thinking about falling, or about the ground, or about how much it's going to hurt if you fail to miss it.

It is notoriously difficult to prize your attention away from these three things during the split second you have at your disposal. Hence most people's failure, and their eventual disillusionment with this exhilarating and spectacular sport.

If, however, you are lucky enough to have your attention momentarily distracted at the crucial moment by, say, a gorgeous pair of legs (tentacles, pseudopodia, according to phyllum and/or personal inclination) or a bomb going off in your vicinty, or by suddenly spotting an extremely rare species of beetle crawling along a nearby twig, then in your astonishment you will miss the ground completely and remain bobbing just a few inches above it in what might seem to be a slightly foolish manner.

This is a moment for superb and delicate concentration. Bob and float, float and bob. Ignore all consideration of your own weight simply let yourself waft higher. Do not listen to what anybody says to you at this point because they are unlikely to say anything helpful. They are most likely to say something along the lines of "Good God, you can't possibly be flying!" It is vitally important not to believe them or they will suddenly be right.

Waft higher and higher. Try a few swoops, gentle ones at first, then drift above the treetops breathing regularly.

DO NOT WAVE AT ANYBODY.

When you have done this a few times you will find the moment of distraction rapidly easier and easier to achieve.

You will then learn all sorts of things about how to control your flight, your speed, your maneuverability, and the trick usually lies in not thinking too hard about whatever you want to do, but just allowing it to happen as if it were going to anyway.

You will also learn about how to land properly, which is something you will almost certainly screw up, and screw up badly, on your first attempt.

There are private clubs you can join which help you achieve the all-important moment of distraction. They hire people with surprising bodies or opinions to leap out from behind bushes and exhibit and/or explain them at the critical moments. Few genuine hitchhikers will be able to afford to join these clubs, but some may be able to get temporary employment at them.

Their fundamental abilities, however, are not significantly greater than ours.

There's a clear reason for this, it has to do with direct conscious work which is indirectly related to an individual's natural psychic abilities...Its best to put aside any and all psychic skills when doing the work as they only serve to distract rather than assist, however when certain plateaus are reached, bridges crossed, one may find the natural psychic abilities have been greatly enhanced...

This is an interesting thread. I have a few decks of Tarot cards. I prefer to use the Voyager deck, maybe it is like my mind, lots of stuff everywhere. I learned to read tarot when I was hanging out with psychics and someone convinced me to rent a table at a few psychic fairs. It wasn't fun so I didn't do it for long. Too many people want someone to make decisions for them, not the point in my opinion, of what tarot is about. It is a good tool to get perspective.

Am I the only one making a weird connection between tarot card reading and the double slit experiment in quantum physics?

Limited number of cards with broad meanings and interpretations plus a human desire to talk about themselves means that its statistically likely that a person will have a positive reading, or a 'hit'. As @JahaRa said, it's about perspective.

That said I've been caught off guard by a couple of recent readings. They seemed to fairly accurately depict the situation in question but not address the question directly.

I still read my daily horoscope in the newspaper for a hoot - although it isn't paper and you have to be careful what you call 'news' anymore.

I get the connection.
it is all about the nature of time and reality.
time flows from the least likely time line to the most likely timeline and not beginning to end like most people think.
and consciousness is non local...
the brain is pretty good at trapping consciousness, but you can get away pretty easy if you try.
the rest is a signal to noise issue.

On a "what is guiding me" note. Looks like embodiment vs the intellectual mind. That is my cosmic dance. It is why I dated some idots in my life and I struggled with that. Funny but not. Lol

Not seeing that, can you elaborate?...I've been giving tarot readings for many years now, they are always direct and very descriptive to the point, not holding back any punches in many cases...Even remote readings I do for some are never diluted nor watered down so to speak, it's as if the individual was sitting directly in front of me when I do the remote reading, I guess because of my technique...

maybe I can clear up the double slit experiment.
the setup is where you have a light source on one side of a room so that light only goes out in one direction.
then you take something like thin metal foil with a screen behind it.
you cut one slit in the foil and you will see the light getting through to the screen.
that light is bright in the center and fades the further out you go...
now cut another slit close to the first one and you don't get 2 bright lines (one behind each slit), you get 3.
it is because it forms an interference pattern like waves do.
but what is really strange is that with modern technology we can do this one photon at a time.
and you still get the interference pattern...
and they are not interfering physically like water waves would, they are physically interfering with themselves in alternate timelines.

"what is guiding me"

An interesting question I have been wondering about and one in which Tarot provided an answer.

The problem comes in sorting out what I had been thinking into maybe what I should be. Or a better way to put it is that Tarot made me look at things from a different perspective. Specifically in my instance I know what I have to do and have a good idea where I'm heading, I just question the conditions on the path that takes me there.

EDIT - have to adjust the perspective knob a bit I think.

Well, that's a different slant on that experiment. Actually the experiment proved that light acts like a wave most of the time but with the double slit experiment it acted like particles. It has nothing to do with time.

And I still don't grok what you are trying to say about Tarot being like that.

I think it is important to know why light can be a particle or a wave.
and it does have to do with the nature of time.
tarot card readings work because consciousness is non local
consciousness is outside reality
turns out that things like photons are on life paths just like we are.
and they also can also see the future and take alternate paths because of what they see.
or is that not the way other people see it ?

I don't see it that way. It must be a difference in perspective and understanding. I do agree that consciousness seems to be non-local and I have experiences that leads me to believe that we can get information outside of time, but I am not sure I have ever experienced any tarot reading that gave a glimpse of the future. Because of quantum physics the future is not written and maybe we can navigate the streams but we do not change outcomes, we are programmed to be where we are when we are for the experiences we incarnated for.

I can't speak to why or what the actual mechanism is but I definitely get a sense that there is something else going on. Someone or something that might be paying attention to my life. An idea popped into my head unbidden that it's ME ! Out of billions upon billions of people who have passed who else would have such an interest in my life? How about the non-local non-corporeal rest of me. Who says ALL of you is here at once?

What about past lives and other incarnations you've had? Gotta be stored somewhere - you'd think they would have as much currency as the life you're in the middle of right now. Maybe cases like James Leininger are ones in which his receiver is wonky and he's getting bleed through he shouldn't be. Maybe he was made on a Monday or a Friday at the end of somebody's shift .....

I'm leery of putting too many discrete rules and regulations around any of this, or making and statements about the mechanism at work. Religions do that with no basis other than faith i.e made up stuff. I'd rather simply open my eyes and my opinions a little wider and experience whatever the hell it is I occasionally feel. Meditation and RV have given me a small start in that direction.

Pigfarmer is spot on. I keep thinking about how my mind can access the past, as well as other dimensions. And, even the lives that other people have lived. And I feel like it is right at my fingertips, just don't know how to access it. There are locations I drive by in my daily life and I think "something happened there, and may still be happening there."

For example, a building near my house. It was a gas station when I was a kid, now is a private residence. I can't shake the feeling that somewhere this building is still a gas station. Same for an old historic railway bridge that is now a pedestrian walk. Somewhere, it still has rails and trains cross it. I can sense it, Ijust don't know how to step into that place.

This (life, the universe, everything) is the third and really big perpetual season of BBC Connections. We all interact and relate somehow. Grand Design or random chance?
