Ncuti Gatwa: BBC names actor as next Doctor Who star
Actor Ncuti Gatwa will take over from Jodie Whittaker as the star of Doctor Who, the BBC has announced.
The 29-year-old will become the 14th Time Lord on the popular science fiction show, and the first non-white performer to play the lead role.
Scottish actor Gatwa, who was born in Rwanda, is best known for starring in Netflix's sitcom Sex Education.
He said he was "deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared" by his new role He added: "This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.
"I will endeavour my upmost to do the same
Gatwa will make his debut as the Time Lord in 2023.."

Sadly it seems the woke BBC is continuing on its path of ruination of Doctor Who...Changing the character of the Doctor is no different than what has been done to Superman and other fictional characters because of this woke ideology...A black Superman doesn't work and the only reason Supergirl worked is because they created her as a whole new stand-alone character instead of changing Superman himself...Same with Doctor Who, a black Doctor won't be the Doctor in true form and a female Doctor never worked from day one...There are already black Timelords and female Timelords they can create whole new tv shows about or if they don't like those on hand create new characters...Changing popular characters to suit political or social movements has not worked out well...

It is my hope he was cast not to fit a woke agenda but on his merit. The female master (missy) worked because the actress was perfect. Jodi never WAS the doctor. She was to woke to be the doctor. She never had a "I AM THE DOCTOR" moment. Jodi failed because she and Chip did not respect the doctor let's see if he will..

What’s going to happen when Tennant returns briefly as the Doctor and then Gatwa becomes the permanent new Doctor? I can’t imagine the fans will be too thrilled with that.

It's beginning to appear as if they will be using the credibility of David Tennant's character the 10th Doctor, and Catherine Tate's Donna Noble to assist in ushering forth the 14th Doctor in an attempt to get back some meaningful fan support...It doesn't look like David Tennant will be playing the part of the Doctor/Donna Doctor who is living in the other reality with Rose or else Billie Piper would be reprising her role as Rose Tyler...At least that's what I assume, we will be seeing the actual 10th Doctor and not the Doctor/Donna copy...

The 18-year-old (main at GQ relaunch) recently shot to fame with an iconic role in Netflix 's gay teen romance Heartstoppers (left inset) where she plays a trans character, Elle Argent. It was revealed by the BBC on Monday she will be named Rose echoing Ms Piper's (right in Doctor Who) stint as the beloved companion to both David Tennant (also right) and Christopher Eccleston generations of the doctors. Ms Finney (inset left) is not the first trans actor to be on Doctor Who with actress Rebecca Root playing a companion and Bethany Black appearing on the show. She will also be joined by fellow Netflix alum Ncuti Gatwa as the doctor when the show airs in 2023. Russell T Davies, who revived the show in 2005 with the first episode entitled Rose, is back as the showrunner. He said it was 'an absolute joy' to have the trans actress on-board after 'we all fell in love with her' in Heartstoppers. He also claimed she could change the 'Whoniverse'. Ms Finney said: 'If anyone would have told eight year old Yasmin that one day she'd be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them. This show has a place in so many people's hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell, has not only made my year, it's made my life.'
