slaves in our civilization are also allowed to marry as they wish,
you even get to choose your master here.
we also have a welfare system for the slaves as well.

staple diet was mostly proso millet for the poor, they made dumplings out of it.
taste is bland, but good for you, and gives you plenty of energy to live.
neat thing about millet is that it only needs enough water in the growing season, it does not care if there are gaps in the rain, it just goes dormant till it gets more water.

Emmer was good as well.

Eat Like an Egyptian
the millet was a poor persons food there,
the wheat was for the people that had some money,
that article also did not mention peas, I am currently growing this one.
King Tut Purple Pea | Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and it is pretty.
most of the the the beer was the "small beer" version, 0.5 to 1.5%, it was made because the fermenting gets rid of the pathogens in the water. it is flavored a bit, but is not going to get you intoxicated to a noticeable degree

Millett was basically pre dynastic they swapped over after that to other grains but its obvious they didn't starve to much unless a famine was happening. They had huge grain storage facilities set up. .

Yes it is . They say that the pyramid builders , the labourers , were even fed good grade meat. That's amazing.

I did find a few people say that wheat was used after it was available.
so I guess it was not always there

what I have never found out is why there are the 2 kinds of wheat,
are they from 2 sources ? they have different genetics, and many people claim they will not cross (but I think I have done it), 28, VS 42 chromosomes,
and after a quick read of wikipedia to check the numbers, Durum - Wikipedia
I guess they likely did come from the same place.
likely imported at the same time.
