Metanoia
I percolate my Chock Full O Nuts and put in it a vacuum carafe. Also filled a thermos for later at work. Pour out either of those twelve hours from now and they'll still burn your skin. It doesn't develop that stale burnt taste from sitting on a warmer.

Coffee is life. If I could unscrew my skull and pour it in directly I would.

Why not fill a camel pack with it and have it injected into your right and left subclavian arteries

It went from heat wave to cold and damp and rainy. With everyone shooting off fireworks it's for the best because no matter how tinder dry it gets there's always somebody drunk and/or dumb enough to do it anyway.

Poor Pie just won't do her business at night so when I take her out in the morning the food gates are open. God even I feel better after she lets go :) Dead quiet, can barely see out there at 0345 but we just stood out there a bit and drank it all in. Silent, the moisture dampens everything. Absolutely beautiful, The World's asleep.

This is the time of day I'd like to take my one man Oom-pah-band down to where those ******s who are doing most of the fireworks live and parade around a while. I love a parade.

We had weather like I've never seen here before and I have lived here for over 40 years. It hit as high 45C/113F. It lasted about 2 weeks and started a lot of wildfires. I had both ac units on full blast and it still was too hot in here. I didn't dare venture outside. We just don't get that kind of heat here.

This morning I processed 10 quarts of green beans from my garden...Then grilled some burgers and a couple steaks, Kobi and I shared a steak and a burger with the rest in the frig for later...

Going out to the workshop and piddle around for a bit, when the sun falls back behind the trees near the garden I need to go out and pick some more beans...

Fourth of July fireworks shows start at dusk, the small town nearby sets them off which the big ones I can see from my house...Then later in the evening the Vietnamese family a mile or so down the road sets off a big fireworks show from their property...They do it every Fourth and most times their fireworks display is better than the one the county does in town lol...

Good Lord! Aren't you in the Toronto area?

Our weather in the Mid-Atlantic has been fairly normal so far. Hurricane Elsa should be just a nice rain event by the time it reaches us.

Alberta, Canada. I thought my ac units were just too old and I was going to have to replace them, but as soon as the dome passed, the machines started working perfectly fine again. I'm just glad we didn't have any brown outs. It would have killed me for sure.

The use of air conditioners in hot places, and in not so hot places when the heat passes through, raises a serous question.

We know AC units use a lot of power. And parts of America and Canada have been requesting people to turn off as much electrical equipment as possible as the Grid can't keep up.

So here is the problem.

The Grid can't keep up now. What will it be like in the much vaunted 'all electric' world when everyone is running electric cars and, of course, needing to charge them ?

The world just does not have the capacity. At least no yet.

We know AC units use a lot of power.

Not necessarily, sometimes it actually takes more electrical power to heat than to cool, if just comparing devices that use electricity as its main energy source...For example, my ac unit uses only 4.35 amps at 110 volts however an electric powered heating unit I have uses 15.4 amps at 110 volts to heat...Both are allegedly energy conservative type units hence why I rely more on propane heating, to save electric power costs...I'm sure there are power hungry models of air conditioners as well as more power hungry heating units, they are all not the same across the board...I'm very conscious of my electrical usage and use solar to provide some of the power I use in my workshop and when I purchase electrical devices I'm always looking at their power requirements before buying...

Agreed that the power consumption of AC units has fallen over the years.
Back in the eighties I worked in the Middle East and most houses had the old evaporation coolers. These helped, but were not very efficient.
But then there was a surge in proper AC units; seven Kw. Great, but the next we knew we were having brown-outs and total power failures. The rather primitive grid could cope with the little motors and pumps that worked the evaporators, but not the compressors in the AC units.

I still predict Grid problems in the future.

We need more nuclear stations, preferably Thorium units.

AC or not (it's 90F here today so we have our's on...) ...the problem lately with wasting energy sems to be bitcoin mining....I know people are all about freedom of choice and all that in 'Murica but wasting all that energy on virtual money on effing machines seems asinine to me when we have far more important things to deal with.. :dry8:

Right on, Brother.

But as we both know, the rich guys call the shots. And they don't give a rats behind as long as they carry on getting richer.

Here's a few pics of my garden, with today's harvest of beans first, then a slightly blurry pic of the watermelon in early stages of spreading out across their pen...The next are the corn, they are growing nicely, and a pic of the sunflowers that grew from last year's sunflowers, I didn't plant them this year...

There have been storms and the big cable laying across the road a mile away is probably why we lost all internet connectivity. Phone & tv too. I suspect it’ll be out a while.

Annoying when you realize your casual dependence on it all but also weirdly refreshing. Gonna party like it’s 1990.

and I still have this little pop tart to poke at and hold off the withdrawal symptoms:)

Have many people ever given thought if we ever have a major internet/electrical grid failure? I know when we have an internet loss for a few hours people’s heads are close to exploding. We are doing most of our transactions electronically these days. Oh boy, if and when we have a failure!

And a major failure of the future self-driving cars system will bring carnage.
That's why I thing it will not happen. At least to the extent that is being suggested. Too much risk.

My 86 year old aunt just ordered a new car in expectation of it helping her drive, which she shouldn’t be anymore.

Oh, nothing bad could possibly happen there, right?
