Yup, a furshlugginer bear. My neighbor took this and gave it to me this afternoon. It's in the gully behind the house.
Wasn't kidding .....

Fratty and out of touch.
I hear you - sometimes you just see or hear something weird and the logical part of your brain has it figured out but your adrenal glands haven't. Kind of fun though. Why not go poke around where the noises came from during the day and look for scat, broken branches, prints? Maybe there is something out there. One time my dogs were absolutely terrified out back at night and dragged me back inside - and we live in a neighborhood not out in the sticks. Turned out it was a bear and her two cubs wandering around. Yikes!

We have a storage shed out back that's like a Motel 8 - everything comes there to live, breed and die. Put a camera trap on it once and couldn't believe the traffic. A beautiful red fox spent some time there and had two kits - which I think were male. They had a fugly brindle coat and were much larger, you might even say long legged. And they do let out a hellish screech.
I just wish I could convince my dog that doorbells on TV are not real! b001

Still have a f**$#%! BEAR problem. Make a list of the top 100 problems you have and tell me if Ursus Americanus is on the list. I think stinkers is still down in the gully behind the house ....

Seriously though, about ten years ago I was in my tent sleeping one night on a mountain a few hours from I live now, just me and my previous dog who passed away...My dog woke me, nudging me with his nose and scratching on my blanket, I almost said something when I woke but heard the grunt of a bear right near the tent which kept my mouth shut...He moved along brushing up against the side of my tent, my dog next to me trembling so much lol, but I don't leave food out at night when I camp, it was closed up in containers and a cooler in my jeep...

No more than 10 minutes he was gone but it was a long ten minutes...I don't own a gun, don't have anything against them, just don't own one, so all I have with me is a machete, a hatchet, and a knife under my pillow...Actually I've had more problems with coyotes when camping than a bear, for instance there was one time coyotes circled my camp at night, I assumed wanting my current dog Kobi back when I took him up in the mountains, he was about 7 months old...I stayed up all night, had two fires burning and kept Kobi in the jeep all night, counted 5 or 6 of them, could have been more but no less than 5 coyotes...The second and third night they didn't come back around...

There you go making an assumption. Can you be certain it wasn't a Sasquatch? :)

Well now, you got me thinking and also remembering...There was a time over 15 years ago I was in that same area in the mountains, camping alone, no dog, no machete, no hatchet, just a knife under my pillow whilst I slept in my tent...A noise of some sort woke me and I heard movement outside my tent, sticks breaking, something walking around and it wasn't too small in size from the sounds of it...I could hear it breathing to my right as it passed around my tent...

It didn't sound like a bear, not a coyote, not even a panther, I was getting worried because it sounded too big to peek my head out and have a look and I could not fathom what this creature might be...It moved around my tent while I sat there in the center inside my tent with my knife in my hand, I was trembling a little with concern...It walked around to the front of my tent and stopped...I could hear it breathing at the door of my tent, it wasn't a man, it was an animal no doubt, but it just sat there breathing so I sat there clutching my knife, sweating and trembling...

Hours go by, I start to doze off a few times but fight hard to stay awake, I never heard it move away from my tent so I sat there all night, I didn't make a sound and listened intently and waited for this creature to do something...Hours go by and I see the sunlight brightening the sky, sunrise was here and still nothing, this thing had no moved...So with light of the sun coming up I decided to go for it and unzip my tent, opening the entrance of my tent I see nothing, it was gone...This animal had slipped out during the night, I did not hear it leave...There were impressions in the grass of something that had been there but it was thick grass and did not see tracks...To this day I have no idea what that animal could have been, possibly a bear or panther, we have those in the mountains too, I don't know...

Oh yeah, 600 dollars later after the coil replacement, then paying for an oil change and brake pad replacement it's running and driving excellent again, no issues anymore...In two weeks getting new tires put on...q37

Believer
I've been keeping kind of busy, I started my last year of college a little over a month ago so I've been swamped with lectures, reading, projects, and exams... pretty much rinse and repeat until the middle of December when I'll receive a small two week break before jumping back into the final stretch...

I took a weekend away with a close friend and went camping up in New Hampshire, his parents bought a small plot up there and placed their RV with a few tents and a fire pit a few years back so we try to make it up there at least once a year in the right season... had a strange occurrence up there one of the other years I went, but not this time.

I have a small temporary break in responsibility due to the "holiday" and classes being shifted a day to make up for it, so I thought I would check and see how everything and everyone is doing..... :Alien:

Forums and anonymity. Well, I get it as we all do to one degree or another from necessity.

But, today I was quite honestly overwhelmed. As I've mentioned I have hobbies. Currently rebuilding an old Corvette.

Machines were made to be used.

A man gratuitously gave me his phone # from a technical forum and I spent an hour this morning going over minute details about a specific project I am working on and damn, it was amazing and informative. Not trying to sell me one damned thing. Time well spent and this is something he did out of pure interest in the hobby and a desire to help.

Sheeeeee-it, there are some decent people left in the world, in case your cynicism tells you otherwise.
