Cold as hell. Snowing.
Pulled apart the passenger side of the old 'vette a few weeks ago. Have everything all cleaned, degreased, painted. Home Depot sells a (theoretically) environmentally friendly ZEP purple degreaser which works quite well.
Have to replace the dry rotted control arm bushings. You rent a tool for free from any local auto parts store and the uppers went in like butter. Then comes the lower ones. They are a gigantic pain in the shorts and I came within a whisker of destroying an expensive lower control arm in the process. Can happen quickly. So I lugged it up to a man I have known for 36 years and he applied all his experience and skill to pull my wallet out of the fire - all for $45. He did me a solid. I am certain he thought he had seen the last of them but nope. Second to last. I'll just cut to the chase and bring him the other side when I get to it. One side at a time.
So I got the tie rods, sleeves, idler arm all set up just waiting for the paint to dry on the control arm. There is a silver anti-seize lubricant I use that has a way of getting everywhere - you take one little dab of it and it's up your nose, in your socks and breakfast cereal. It has inter-dimensional capabilities worthy of study. Will probably have to wait until tomorrow. Then it's time to install a hellish coil spring that I can't say I am looking forward to. I do have the proper compressor but it's something to be handled very, very carefully. Don't need an extra hole in the car, me, the wall or any of that.
Were I to hit the lottery I'd love to have a garage with a lift in it and do a frame off resto on something. Tubular a-arms, coilovers, LS engine you name it. Not likely to happen but nice to daydream about
