The Man Who Found a Door to Another World

I joined AH near the end of the Joe the Waiter era. I remember that his comments were often quite incendiary. He made a post about a month after he left that he had moved somewhere way out west where the WiFi (?) was inadequate and that he missed the forum.

I remember Joe.....don't remember the years. I had joined in August 2006.

At least his remarks usually made sense.....and were really only "incendiary" because he was also a skeptic.

Let me clarify what has apparently become a misunderstanding. I was actually trying to be supportive of the comment you made, Gambier, regarding Notdej. I thought I would make a subtle reference to the way in which I've found Notdej (aka Dejarma) present at every forum I visited prior to this one. He seems to be everywhere. Like an annoying, highly contagious, lingering rash, he flares up unexpectedly from time to time during random threads. Itchy and festering and resistant to antibiotics, he has followed us to Alien Expanse. :(

I was not in any way trying to criticize the thread or Gambier or Yankee.

It was my error, I thought he was specifically addressing me. Now I checked and I see it was you. Yes, I quite agree with you on the other parts. I often put a lot of effort into replies and expect that others should at least try to respond to the information instead of ignoring it, or worse, insulting you and the source which appears to be SOP.

We could use an ignore button like on AH to cut out trolls.

A skeptic is someone who denies that potential links exist between topics. A skeptic sees in black and white and believes in absolutes. A skeptic is someone who wants others to do the homework for them and then have it handed to them on a golden plate with a blue ribbon of approval attached to it.

That's not what a skeptic is supposed to be, but it is what they have become.

I had problems being raised among skeptics :(

Its a common problem among baby boomers......personally I just question everything and answer my questions on a case by case basis. I just tell people what my conclusions are......but not everyone likes it when I do that. If I don't agree with someone I try to do it in a well mannered way....and if I don't do that let me know.

I think its best to keep an open mind and make sure that both sides of the discussion are covered......then leave it to the person to answer their own questions. That's another reason I always liked AU was how much I learned and the questions I answered for myself.

I am sorry about your dad :(

Thanks, I appreciate that but it happens, it's just life and it's true that he did become very entrenched as the disease developed. So ya know, here on this forum and elsewhere, well you never know who you're talking to or why they seem
so combative or unreasonable, but alzheimers does do that.

Joe The Waiter....

As soon as I heard his name, I remembered him. I can even see his face. He used to post selfies quite often. I liked him and now that he has been remembered....I miss him.

I always enjoyed thinking about doorways to other places and times. I like to think I would be brave enough to extensively explore. Maybe even leave some kind of trail so I could return whenever I wanted.

I don't know if I have the courage because as soon as I read about the guy defying gravity, it scared me. I probably would have left too.

I don't know if I'd go through it either......only if I knew I could come back I suppose.

I would go through if I thought I'd be able to come back and if possible if I could know it was safe...I wouldn't want to step right in on a group of people pointing weapons at me or get eaten by some animal as soon as I went through lol...

My luck I'd walk thru and into group of tyranosaurids.

Sometimes I think getting off this planet would be a good thing. Walk thru a door and bingo your in another world. But as Castle said it might not be all cheese and biscuits when you do actually step thru it.

If it was only me and I was not married or was a widower...I would take the gamble.

I might as well.....but I think it would be an adventure to try and find it. Then we could figure it out from there.

I'd be tempted to go thru.....but probably wouldn't.....25 years ago I would. But I left my sense of adventure over seas on a trip......lol.
